Can someone please explain why this shit is so popular

Can someone please explain why this shit is so popular

cause - We the people.

bait

It's just a spectacle at this point. You don't need to watch Star Wars, read Harry Potter or Marvel comics to know the full details of the plot since they are well talked about. It's more of a reassurance for normies to make them think they are well functioning members of society. It's a sickening fetish of worshiping infantilism, the phenonom of regressing back into childhood by obsessively talking about the likes of Star Wars or Harry Potter. If you're not doing this along with making a reaction video over the latest bait trailer Marvel shits out then there is likely something incredibly wrong with you. This is what they want to drill into people, it's a growing cancer that needs to be stopped. The people who follow the faux, geek chic crowd are people who have sold their souls and are allowed to become bots by companies to shill for their latest product. We're being forced into a generation of "Like what the media tells you to like with; not what you genuinely like.". This is all an effort to destroy mass individualism.

Its not bait, star war sucks

A New Hope was fairly okay but the rest of the series is dreadful, even Empire is shitty and that's only praised because of MUH DARTH VADER REVEAL.

it was revolutionary at the time. not anymore, but it's still a franchise.

>Trekkies

In the late 70s/early 80s, bunch of execs realized fantasy space shit toys sold like crazy to kids. Every generation of children after that have been marketed to through remasters or prequels or whatever. America's obsession with consuming pop-culture was a perfect hole for our society to get fucked by the lightsaber dick.

Star Wars really did damage to cinema and film as a whole. Now instead of making dramas with depth we just get shitty regurgitated quip fests that movie studios are trying to push onto t-shirts as slogans so retarded normies will buy them.

thats just capitalism, satan

It made too much money. Single-handedly destroyed sci-fi movies.

>you will never live a life commandeering a fast 30-crew starship as a slippery depraved Sith Lord, who has force dominated and corrupted an exotic mixed crew of sexy female Twi'lek, Chiss, Zeltron, Farghul, Falleen, Devaronian, and Togruta sex-slave bodyguards and servants

Why even live?

Sometimes, the invisible hand of the free market flips people the bird.

Star Wars is neither the first nor the only culprit.

because they're meme movies, taylor made for reddit

Blame Batman for being succesful.

That was Jaws. Birth of the summer blockbuster. Famous catchphrases. Dominated pop culture for two straight years. It is what really started it all.

>we're going to need a bigger boat

It's got to be the biggest cash cow rn. What other examples come to mind?

Also "the game of jaws" remains the greatest product tie-in of all time.

It was meant for>First big blockbusters.
>Batman (1992), which showed succes of capeshit possible.
>The entirety of 90s which have gone from awfully safe and kid friendly to edgy and back
>The awful early CGI movies of the 2000s (prequels count here) which were too awful to take seriously
>Fucking Nolan
>Social media and postmodernism in general

No. But I can tell you that people think it's shit because it's popular.

Fuckin' marketing.

Realism

>>First big blockbusters.
>>Batman (1992), which showed succes of capeshit possible.

That would be superman 1978.

I was the most expensive movie ever produced ($55 Million plus $7 million in marketing it) and it brought in a staggering $300 million at the box office.

It also had the biggest even television Debut of any film when the extend 3hr cut of the film was aired in two parts over two nights in 1982 on ABC, and this was accompanied by a massive media event sponsored by Atari (pre-crash atari was pretty much the biggest thing in the universe at that time).

The film was so influential that many of it's elements were retconned into the DC comicbook.

because they're fun!

This is good pasta

The new movies suck but the trailer music is really good.

I always thought of it as people desperately trying to find a sense of belonging because all of the traditional cultural foundations like the church had been wiped out.

Basically there's no commons in which we can talk to one another about deep emotional or spiritual problems anymore so we just jerk each other off over fantasy series while slowly upping the dosage on our antidepressants every few months.
