It's not even cherrypicking. Is a pretty accurate way to put it. Even with PolitiFacts own description he doesn't deserve that "pants on fire" ranking for many of the facts that he's been evaluated on. Some of the grossest misrankings have not been even showed there.
PolitiFact may be independent, but that doesn't mean that they are not biased.

They are a liberal mouthpiece nothing more.
They apply a much stricter bias to conservatives than liberals.
They rate statements as "Half-true" or "False" even though there isn't anything wrong with what was said, simply just because they think it is misleading.
They fact check hyperboles and critizes people if they give ballpark-numbers and not the exact numbers
They rate statements as false if an "expert" disagrees with it.
Just look at their fact check of Donald Trump's RNC speech: politifact.com
Look what they rated as Half-true or False and tell me how any of these are a clearcut decision. Take for example: "My opponent wants to essentially abolish the Second Amendment" and they rate it as False because it is not "a stated policy of the Clinton campaign"...
