"White" is meaningless as a group. It's a term Germans invented to justify their poor history by associating themselves with the Greeks and Romans, that is to say "We are part of the same group as the most important cultures of history, so we're great!"
There are better racial groupings. Main types in Greece is Mediterranean, Alpine and Dinaric. I think Armenia and Georgia are considered Caucasian and Nordic-Iranian.
It's not completely meaningless. "White" would be Alpine, Nordic, med, and other predominantly European groups who are much closer to each other than to say Negroids or mongoloids or whatever the hell mud people in India are called.
Actually I thought Americans invented the concept of "white". We were the first country, I think, that really mixed all the European ethnic groups.
A lot of Americans don't understand that there ARE different ethnic groups between white people. They literally do not recognize the difference between, say, Slav and French. They would both just be "white".
Armenians would almost certainly be seen as "white". We do recognize "middle eastern" as a separate group but 1) half of that is culture and style -- if an Iranian speaks with no accent and dresses western, he'd mostly just be seen as "white" and 2) Armenians don't look strongly "middle eastern" to me.

I could pull out the book and type up some quotes if you want to but Europeans started to notice the stark differences in non-european peoples when they started exploring off the continent. Which kinda coincides with the Americas but not from the USA.

If you look at one of these genetic map thingies, like the one in pic related, then Greeks would of course cluster closer to Armenia than British people would, for example. But there will still be a difference, and it's about where you draw the line. I am happy to draw the line at Greece/Bulgaria, and declare anyone to the East of that as non-European and hence not a part of the European family, genetically or culturally.

I've read interesting things about some clusters. I've read (IIRC), for instance, that Cypriots and Sicilians may be more similar to the historic Southern European populations than modern day Greeks and Italians.
