In many places, the age of consent is below 18. Yet, simultaneously, it is illegal to distribute images of any sex acts from those under 18.
Why is this?
To be clear - I don't think it's a good idea to lower the age at which people can distribute Pornography. The Age of Consent should be raised to 18. I just don't understand how the two ages can be separate. Can anyone explain this?

In the past, if a 17 year old had sex with a 27 year old, it could be damaging but really the government getting involved was more damaging than the relationship. It wasn't in anybodies interests.
Women are encouraged to go nude, they get paid more money if they strip. Having nude pictures of you spread around can have adverse effects on your entire life. Therefore nudes for people under 18 are banned to avoid creating a larger legal market for them, which would encourage exploitation of these under-18s. Since this law was mostly considering girls consdering going into porn or nude modelling or something, it did make sense in the past. So the older age did make sense for the protection of children.
However nowadays teenagers sext and the "under-18" law doesn't make any sense anymore and it's likely going to have to be reformed. At the same time you don't want to somehow legalize child pornography. I honestly don't know how to sort out the legal mess.
