Why did American newspapers call the Japanese the Japanese, the Italians the Italians, but always referred to Germans as Nazis?

Dehuminisation.
Because a lot of Americans are of German decent.
Kerch and Nazis in the same sentence will always trigger me. Back in the day I played a lot of Il-2 Sturmovik but I didn't realise it had a fast forward feature so I genuinely used to fly 2 hour sorties in a He-111 to bomb the East Crimean peninsula. For about 20 minutes of that time you were actually having to fend off fighters or do the actual bombing, the rest was just flying in a straight line. Realistic yeah but not fun
They put the japs in camps. Calling germans nazis was the least they could do during a world war.
