Welcome to Film Studies 101

We're going to go around the class and say our what favorite movie is.
You're first, user!

Don't have one

Brokeback Mountain

>classlooks at me
>...b-big guy...
>What's that user, please speak up?
>uh uhmmm, Star Wars...

uh.... 8 and a half...

...

Satantango

Not an acceptable answer!
Now me, mine is Shawshank Redemption. Did you know that it is the number one ranked movie on the Internet Movie Data Base? Seems to be as close to an objective opinion as you can get!

Fargo

*stands up and holds head high*
The Cuckold!

Le ravageur (Miller, 1907)

*praises Kek*

Ah, I see you're a man of culture as well

Le chevalier noir (2008)

Synecdoche, New York
>paying money to be "taught" film

Commando.

"I DIDN'T GO TO FILM SCHOOL, I WENT TO FILMS"
>*never gets any funding for his projects and settles into a life of mediocrity as a youtube critic*

My favorite movie? There Will be Blood. Favorite flick is Dumb and Dumber. Favorite film is 2001: A Space Odyssey. Favorite kino is The Mirror

What's your favorite motion picture?

>not going to a film school in California for the networking opportunities and internship bridges that lead to actual jobs

kys

I enjoy the films of Wes Anderson. In high school everyone knew I had the best taste in film and music, because I told them so.

Microcosmos. I enjoy watching invertebrates killing and fucking one another to the sweet sounds of Claude Debussy

>Don't want to reveal my power level
>Blurt out "fight club"
>Everyone rolls their eyes

...

...

...

...

...
...D-d-d-d-d-drive

>i dont watch movies i watch kino

Would I be criticised for my toxic masculinity if I said Robocop

Withnail and I

I just pick a random movie that nobody will have heard of when they asked even though my favorite is strangelove.

you don't learn jack shit about movies in film school. you go there for networking and doing projects, building a resumee.

idiots. I was implying that paying a college tuition in general was retarded, especially for film school. Enjoy your jobless, pathetic lives.
and seeking a career in the movie industry is retarded if you're not a jew

>when the kid next to me said Mulholland Dr.

we were friends in an instant

damn bruh, never heard of this. Looks neat, and it's on ((YouTube)) in high def. thanks user.

Once Upon a Time in the West, of course.

What's your favourite Cinema, Cinéma, Kinographie, Motion Picture, Joint and Picture Play?

>spoiler
looks like I'm in the right industry then lol

it's literal naturekino user, enjoy

Aliens.

Pain and Gain

>because of this fucking movie I have to either say "The korean Oldboy" or "The 2003 Oldboy"

lord of the rings: episode one: the phanton menace

probably goodfellas

I haven't even heard about a "2003 oldboy"

The Avengers

I'd say L'Ascension du Chevalier Noir, but it's really Thor: Le Monde des ténèbres.

The Samurai or Come and See.

I said Big Lebowski, everyone warmed to me immediately, no-one dislikes Big Lebowski

12 angry men, because im not a /r9k/ poster who cant speak in public

looking back all the movies i used to watch are trash
so are new movies
all movies are trash, nothing but some jewish power fantasy that has tons of jesus symbolism for some reason

Hey buddy, you just fly in from Reddit?

The Godfather! What else!

>"You talkin' to me?"
>"I don't see anyone else here?"
>"Who the fuck do you think you're talking to?"
>"Huh? Fucking shit heel"

Ah Taxi Driver is your favourite novie then user?

>"Movie?"

My go to is Stalker. It's old and Russian or something so that gets me bonus points. Really I only like it by association to the games.

Barry Lyndon

>not once upon a time in america
Spotted the pleb

If I'm in a good mood, Raiders of the Lost Ark
If I'm feeling miserable, Autumn Sonata

>no-one dislikes Big Lebowski
Raises hand

lol ...//done

this happened to me in a cinema elective class and i said Brazil by Terry Gilliam because i couldnt think of anything else and the prof smiled

Apocalypse Now

Nobody actually likes Stalker as it's own movie. It's got great set design and a few intense sequences but overall it's arthouse crap film nerds use to tell themsleves they're smart for liking

Exactly. Nobody dislikes The Big Lebowski.

...

*raises spork*

Reminder that dis nigga playing the Shocker in the new Spidey movie.
and he also got a "shocker" from rachel keller in fargo season 2

Apocalypse Now, theatrical cut.

Problem Child 2

Whaaat? I've never heard of any of these.

stuart little 2

Rashomon

>plebs actually believe this

Robocop

A Good Man starring kino auteur steven seagal

it is better to be weak, then to be a colossal faggot like you user

Star Wars

Stalker is not a good movie

It has elements that are done excellently, but overall it just doesn't work as a film

what d oyou think could make it better then?

I'd probably say conan the barbarian

That's not how I remember it

I don't revise movies. I'm not Chris Stuckmann

>It's got great set design and a few intense sequences
If you're talking about what people like about Stalker and manage to ignore cinematography then you're basically full of shit anyway.

The seventh seal
I might as well reveal I'm a pretentious pleb off the bat.

I could go down a laundry list of things Stalker does amazingly, cinematography being only one of them

But it doesn't change the fact that it doesn't work overall as a movie. It fails to capture the viewer

>come into thread
>people talking about a good movie, general consensus is that we like it
>HEY GUYS THIS MOVIE SUCKS
>why tho
>n-nevermind, I don't support my own opinions...

fucking kek

the only correct answer
a kino that everyone loves

You're putting words in my mouth faggot, I never said it sucked, in fact I gave a pretty positive opinion of it

It's just not the perfect classic you faggots make it out to be

Professor how many movies have you made? I'm going to go on Netflix tonight to watch then and prepare for this class.

>doesn't work as a film
>UH I-ITS JUST NOT A PERFECT CLASSIC (no one said this)

It doesn't work

The pacing is too slow, the focus is too much on showing off the sets and not pushing the story forward

Gee, sorry for disagreeing with the hivemind

>I never said it sucked
you said that stalker was not a good movie, calling it arthouse crap
>It's just not the perfect classic you faggots make it out to be
You said it had good elements, but are unable to identify what they are. All you keep saying is how much it sucked.

I don't think you know what you're talking about user.

I haven't even fucking seen the movie i'm just confused by your constant floundering and backtracking

you should have said this in the first place

STARSHIP TROOPERS

Ghosts ...of the Civil Dead

SeeStop samefagging

K

PATHIFIC RIMMM

fuck off lol

Paris, Texas

I posted and then immediately after, this showed up lol

>the pacing is too slow
>muh story
How to spot a pleb 101

For those ITT that actually took a film studies class, what was your class like?

Mine:
>two days a week over the summer at 1pm (got to sleep in)
>walk in, teacher plays a few select scenes from certain movies to show a filmmaking technique
>then we watch a full movie
>short 10 question quiz at the end of class of film terms

I made a perfect 100 in the class.

Here's the movies we watched:
>Citizen Kane
>High Noon
>City Lights
>The Matrix
>Manchurian Candidate
>Casablanca
>March of the Penguins

A couple more I can't remember at the moment.

The Dark Knight!
