X-MEN: APOCALYPSE

Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac), the firstborn of the mutant race, rules the world in ancient Egypt, but is betrayed by his worshippers and entombed for centuries, while his followers, the Four Horsemen, are destroyed.

He is awakened in 1982 to learn that the world has forgotten him. Believing that without his presence humanity has grown weaker, Apocalypse decides to destroy it in order to rebuild society to his image, and sets to recruit four mutants to do his bidding.

His first recruit is Storm (Alexandra Shipp), a kindly pickpocket from Cairo. She worships Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), who has become a revered figure in the mutant community for saving the President of the United States and ushering a new era of pacific coexistence between humans and mutants.

Mystique is investigating an underground fight club where mutants are forced to battle, and happens upon a fight between the champion, Angel (Ben Hardy), a hardened fighter, and newcomer Nightcrawler (Kodi Smith-McPhee), who gets the upper hand and and electrocutes Angel, leaving him injured. Mystique rescues Nightcrawler, while Apocalypse arrives to cure Angel, who is reborn as Archangel.

In New York City, Cyclops (Tye Sheridan) learns about his powers and is taken by his estranged older brother Havok (Lucas Till) to the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters to learn how to control them with Professor Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and Beast (Nicholas Hoult). He is reluctant until he meets Xavier's protege, Jean Grey (Sophie Turner), who is likewise unable to control her powers, and the two develop an attraction.

Mystique arrives to alert Xavier about Apocalypse and bring Nightcrawler to the institute, and Xavier and Havok meet with Moira McTaggert (Rose Byrne) to find out more about Apocalypse, unaware that William Stryker (Josh Helman) is conspiring against them. Meanwhile, Magneto recruits another follower, Psylocke (Olivia Munn).

Magneto (Michael Fassbender) is living in anonimity in Poland, where he has a wife and daughter. However, he is located by the authorities, and his family is slaughtered in the crossfire. An infuriated Magneto is later approached by Apocalypse and joins him. Quicksilver (Evan Peters) has been searching for his father, and decides to seek Xavier for help.

Cyclops, Jean, Nightcrawler and another student, Jubilee (Lana Candor) sneak out to go to the movie theater, while Xavier attempts to use Cerebro to locate Apocalypse, only for Apocalypse and his followers to attack the institute and kidnap Xavier. Apocalypse uses Cerebro to force the world leaders to launch Earth's entire nuclear arsenal into space so it can't be used against him. Havok is killed in an explosion while trying to rescue Xavier. The mansion is destroyed, but Quicksilver evacuates the entire student body from the collapsing building.

Stryker arrives and captures Quicksilver, Nightcrawler, Mystique and Moira under pretense they are suspects of Apocalypse's attack. They are taken to Stryker's Weapon X facility to be experimented upon, but Cyclops and Jean follow them. Once inside, Jean senses Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), who has just been subjected to the Adamantium bonding procedure and is being brainwashed into becoming Stryker's weapon. She frees him, and Wolverine slaughters Stryker's soldiers, though Stryker escapes.

It's a retcon.

Jean calms down Wolverine and he escapes in his own, while Cyclops and her free the prisoners and reunite with Beast. They locate Apocalypse and the Horsemen in Cairo and head there to stop them and rescue Xavier. They steal tactical flight suits from Stryker's base and head there in a new X-Jet built by Beast.

At Apocalypse's behest, Magneto uses his powers to control Earth's magnetic poles, causing widespread destruction across the planet and mass casualties. Apocalypse, meanwhile, confronts Xavier in the astral plane, intending to possess him, and they battle, during which Xavier loses his hair.

The X-Men arrive and battle the Horsemen. Mystique reaches out to Magneto and reminds him that the X-Men are his family too and that his wife and daughter wouldn't be spared in Apocalypse's purge. Magneto sees the error of his ways and helps the X-Men fight Apocalypse.

Apocalypse attacks Mystique, and seeing his disregard for her causes Storm to change sides as well. Realizing things are spiraling out of control, Psylocke and Archangel attempt to leave in the stolen X-Jet, but it is brought down by Nightcrawler. Psylocke survives the fall and escapes, while Archangel also survives, but with a horribly mangled body.

While the assembled X-Men fight Apocalypse, Jean ventures into the astral plane and learns from Xavier that Apocalypse is weakened after centuries in the same body. Jean and Magneto join forces and dismantle Apocalypse's armor, with Jean tapping into the Phoenix force and becoming enveloped in a firebird. Once Apocalypse's frail true form is exposed, Jean incinerates him.

Xavier realizes there will always be threats human and mutant alike and decides to train his students to become the X-Men. He returns Moira's memories and they develop a relationship. Xavier and Magneto reaffirm their friendship and Magneto leaves on his own. Quicksilver and Storm join the team, and Quicksilver decides not to tell Magneto he's his son yet.

The X-Men - Cyclops, Jean, Beast, Mystique, Nightcrawler, Quicksilver and Storm - are given new uniforms by Xavier and prepare for a training session in the Danger Room, facing off against the Sentinels, while Xavier overlooks them, proud of what they've become.

In an after-credits scene, the abandoned Weapon X facility is infiltrated by a paramilitary team that begins retrieving all data regarding Stryker's research on mutants on behalf of the Essex Corporation.

Can you getting tired ?

>Xavier believes peace has been achieved and it's no longer necessary to fight, and the movie's main storyline is realizing the world will always need the X-Men to defend it.

>Apocalypse takes Magneto back to Auschwitz Concentration Camp, and Magneto has flashbacks of all the people he's lost over the years in order to unlock the full scope of his powers.

>Mystique spends most of the time in human force so she won't be recognized by people who view her as a hero and a legend.

>Apocalypse's most prominent power is controlling sand, which he uses to slice necks, subdue enemies and encase the Horsemen in coccoons from which they emerge with their new uniforms and enhanced powers.

>Archangel's birth has Metallica's "Four Horseman" as the soundtrack.

>Quicksilver's rescue has Eurhythmics "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" as the soundtrack.

>Jubilee doesn't die.

>Magneto's family has more lines than Psylocke, Archangel and Jubilee.

>Cyclops and Jean's tension is barely addresed once it's established.

>There's a running gag of Moira not remembering the events of "X-Men: First Class" because Xavier mindwiped her. He restores her memories in the end.

>The Horsemen barely speak, aside from Magneto, and only have one fight scene.

>Havok is killed when Apocalypse diverts one of his energy beams into a nearby helicopter, and Havok is engulfed in the explosion and his body is later buried under the rubble of the X-Mansion.

>Wolverine wears the trademark Weapon X helmet from the comics.

>Cameos include Caliban as Psylocke's handler and the Blob as one of Angel's competitors in the cage match.

>The ending of "X-Men: Days of Future Past" with Mystique rescuing Wolverine is ignored.

>Quicksilver appears not to recognize Wolverine even though they've met before.

>Havok claims he last saw Mystique during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962, even though they met again in Vietnam in 1973.

We know. This has been posted like ten times. BTW this typo still hasn't been fixed:

>Meanwhile, Magneto recruits another follower, Psylocke (Olivia Munn)

Should be Apocalypse, not Magneto.

It's been posted once.

>The ending of "X-Men: Days of Future Past" with Mystique rescuing Wolverine is ignored

Can't Linger the Singer.

>Mystique spends most of the time in human force so she won't be recognized by people who view her as a hero and a legend.
I'm done with this shit franchise, give me Miller or give me death.

>She worships Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), who has become a revered figure in the mutant community

I want off Singer's wild ride.

Why can't the Deadpool director take over the X-Men movies?

To be fair it's more than likely JLaw is being forced on him. She was cast and signed to a mutil-picture deal when he was gone and became America's Favorite Quirkster so I'm sure he's being "encouraged" to put her front and center.

Singer's casting was always spot on imo. I'm old enough to remember how badly he got shit on for Grandpa Magneto but McKellen turned out to be the best thing that happened to the character in decades.

>Phoenix Force already

fucking really?

Storm and Rogue were dogshit castings though.

I'm not saying that Singer didn't make good movies, I really enjoyed the first two X-Men movies and DoFP was alright. However, I'm tired of him giving spotlight only to Wolverine/Magneto/Xavier/Mystique. I want some fresh blood in this franchise, a new director to make something interesting and give more time to other characters. I'm just tired of Singer, he's been doing these movies for too long.

Rogue was a fine casting, but she had shit writing and directing.

Can you imagine? They're only 9 movies in!

>Essex Corporation

Good set up desu senpai.

The immortal Sinister is a good villain for the new future Wolverine movie. They could incorporate some aspect of the Here Comes Tomorrow arc with Old Man Logan and make references to the Phoenix fucking everything up to set up the Phoenix X-Men movie.

Maybe there'll be clones and children. Laura, Dakken, Jimmy. I'm sure there's more? The one from 2099? All the babies.

What are apocalypses powers in the film?

ESSEX

sorry for repeating myself

Then Death it is

>She worships Mystique
Why do they keep pushing her so hard?

because contract?
dont let it get to you

Apocalypse sounds weak.

Sand and makeovers.

Jean seems to be the true lead here.

I like it
But I think they should have used creeping death too it fits

True.
Let me see
Magneto - Fade to black
Angel - Creeping Death
Storm - Hit the Lights
Psylocke - Seek and Destroy

PERFECT

>The ending of "X-Men: Days of Future Past" with Mystique rescuing Wolverine is ignored.
>Quicksilver appears not to recognize Wolverine even though they've met before.
>Havok claims he last saw Mystique during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962, even though they met again in Vietnam in 1973.

And this is why the X-men movies had such a fucked up timeline: SINGER CAN'T EVEN FUCKING KEEP UP WITH HIS OWN MOVIES
Does he not watch them before making another? Does he even remember what he did?
I mean, Wolverine was a pretty important character in DoFP, how the fuck are they treating as he never even was a part of it

>Magneto uses his powers to control Earth's magnetic poles
ohh god, this is Loeb level of writting, getting real bad flashbacks of Ultimatum right now

apparently the rating for the movie on rt rose to 51%

the consensus seems to be that it's a fun movie, albeit too much action and not enough plot?

>At Apocalypse's behest, Magneto uses his powers to control Earth's magnetic poles, causing widespread destruction across the planet and mass casualties.

you wuss

At least Jubilee is alive.

I wonder why some folks were spreading rumors about her being killed. And why?

Soo... that one user who was just bullshitting a couple of months ago... he came up with a better movie than this?
Bravo, Singer.
I can see this being unsatisfying.

he didn't say much

It was such a specific change to put in there to begin with. How in the fuck did they not have a suitable follow-up for that in mind already?

People are saying that the final battle and the ending in general is pretty crap.

I guess the big action finale with all the destruction the promised didn't deliver.

They don't say why, though
Too CGI for them?

>LITERALLY USING ULTIMATUM PLOT

NO.
NO THIS IS NOT OK.
ALARM.
ALARM.

Here we go again.

this sounds like ultimatum all over again

Sweet. Perfect reason to do a Storytime of Pain.

Magneto trying to flip the poles is much older than Ultimatum.

the main problem of ultimatum was something else
Blob eating Wasp
Twincest
Mags killing Chuck
Havok & X-Men dying in tsunami
Cyclops getting a headshot
Private porn of Stark

Some complaints mentioned that it's really bizarre that apparently an entire city with its inhabitants gets ground to dust on the greenscreens, but the X-Men don't really react to it and only really care about the immediate danger to themselves.
Presumably thousands die there and nobody cares.

Also, from the description here, everyone just switches sides, then Apocalypse just gets killed by Mags and Jean going WE WERE ACTUALLY STRONGER THAN YOU ALL ALONG!
That's really fucking disappointing. X-Men isn't Dragonball.

>Critics say the young mutants are surprisingly good
>Singer cuts all the scenes which shows the teens having fun and bonding

What a fucking dunce.

>Apocalypse just gets killed by Mags and Jean going WE WERE ACTUALLY STRONGER THAN YOU ALL ALONG!

this is pretty true to the comics tbqh

>X-Men don't really react to it
Except fighting the Apocalypse?
I don't know if the lack of reactions means no crying on the x-men part or what?

You forgot Nightcrawler drowning off screen.

Well all of that and the fact that a magnetic pole shift would do nothing to immediately harm anyone.

The only people who know / care about that are people who are literate, which would be less than 10% of the population. The rest are people who flow with the trend

>Launch all the nukes into space
Why not just nuke earth if he wanted to kill all the humans anyway.

Also if he can fucking do mass mindcontrol why not rule earth then and there.

Also holly shit Senator Kelly is right, jesus fuck Xavier's judgment was the only thing keeping the world from total psychic dominatiob

because everything they build must fall
there must be ashes

>They do fucking Ultimatum

That's why I love the X-Men they are basically one step from being total villains, and if they wanted they would dominate the world easily

>Jubilee doesn't die.

So, what? She goes to the movies and is never seen again?

>Apocolypse psy blasts Chucks hair off

Bravo

I haven't seen the movie, but I assume it's reflected in neither the script nor the performances.
If that's really the case, you might get the feeling that none of the characters find it the least bit out of the ordinary to see a city of millions razed to the ground with all its inhabitants.

Dude, do you know what gravitas is? There's nothing interesting or really dramatic about thousands of people dying and entire cities getting destroyed if the narrative doesn't focus on that. It's the reason why movies like 2012 or MoS get called destruction porn

I've seen in other review that what actually was weird that there is a massive destruction, but when the confrontation goes between A vs X, there are only ruins, without, you know, corpses

How does he power boost people with sand?

The thing is, I didn't see the movie, so can't judge.
However, in the past, the gravitas was all there, so I would be surprised if Singer suddenly decided to go full marvel

>>Launch all the nukes into space
>Why not just nuke earth if he wanted to kill all the humans anyway.
>Also if he can fucking do mass mindcontrol why not rule earth then and there.
Why bother with nukes at all when Cerebro is already capable of killing everyone on the planet, which was the entire plot of X-Men 2.

He wants to preserve the Earth so he can actually live in it.

That's what I noticed as well, as a lot of reviews say that the movie isn't really that dark, which is the reason that reviewers are disappointed, like if they wanted X-Men to go full grimdark

>so I would be surprised if Singer suddenly decided to go full marvel
???

It's mutant sand.

four words: The Avengers final battle

>The Xmen have a private child soldier army and a weapon that can spy, control and kill any and everyone on the planet

How the fuck are the government the bad guys?

>marvel
there is that word.
OK EVERYONE, PACK UP! THREAD'S OVER!
COME BACK ANOTHER TIME!

I guessed as much
Heroes going out of their way to save civvies =/= civvies dying but nobody cares

>Quicksilver's rescue has Eurhythmics "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" as the soundtrack.
I'm okay with this

the result is still the same

They cut out most of her scenes (and the young X-Men scenes) to make way for more JLaw

They probably shouldn't have let Hollywood screen writers build their world for them.
Especially ones that constantly forget everything they did in the previous movies.

pretty cool poster.
I didn't know that there was some marketing for dofp

Check this out:
trask-industries.com

Stop using Logic, Xavier

Lol, no, having half the planet dying BUT not being able to convey the tragedy is bad/lazy writing

I'm sure you'll argue that writing a "the day was saved" situation is just as lazy, but that was intentional, not an unfortunate result

whoah. so much work was put into this, why do I learn about it, like 2 years after the movie?

the point is that neither had a gravitas.

That's nothing, check this out
m-underground.com/
tandeminitiative.com/

Because Fox marketing departement is just terrible.

Even when they produce gems like that, chances are, you just won't find them.

See this shit?
- I - didn't even fucking know about these. Fuck.

Anyway, I think they just settled for this with Apocalypse this time around:
youtube.com/watch?v=xlPw8NUZuuU

How can anyone say mutants dont need regulation after all this.

The point is that one pretended to

Plus, we're talking about the specific topic of "the bad guy kills people", Avengers simply had gravitas in other moments life when the nuke was launched
Hell, even despite the fact that the Avengers saved most, the movie still cares to point out that there were dead to mourn

That being said, let's not turn this into yet another "b-but Marvel" thread

I don't know, maybe it's just some mutants among us trying to deceive us?

Yeah, they fucked up with taht. How come they did it right with Deadpool? It's like they cared more about their semi-Spider-Man more

Okay, I have to see the movie to see whether the reviewers were nitpicky, or if Singer surprisingly forgot about gravitas

Like the two that used there psychic powers to take over the government?
Jesus christ the X films are borderline anti mutant propaganda.

that's right flatscan, I mean, normal citizen

Bring the PAAAAAIIIN!!!

25moments.com/?_ga=1.233549276.39278047.1462596115

Daily reminder Mutants are fucking dangerous as fuck

oh my god, I'm escaping while I still can
