Has social media ever ruined an artist/writer/etc for you...

Has social media ever ruined an artist/writer/etc for you? Did you ever think they were really cool based on their works only to check out their Twitter or Tumblr? Do you like that creators can communicate with their fans 24/7 or do you think it's better if they cut themselves off from their fanbase except for times like AMA's or Cons?

No, because I am an adult and I am able to separate a creator from their work and still enjoy what they have created.

>having social media
>paying attention to social media

you don't deserve happiness tbqphwymf

Roman Polanski sodomized a little girl and I still think he's one of the greatest directors of all time, I don't think seeing a comic artist I like saying something like "Kill all niggers" would change my view of their work

every creator i can think of who acts like a twat on social media is also a shitty creator

That's like saying you can give a guy a blowjob even though you hate him as a person because you can separate his penis from his personality. You're helping someone you don't like.

>claims not to have social media
>ghettoposts
But user, you are Facebook.

>You're helping someone you don't like.
What if you make it a point to pirate all their shit because you still like the work itself?

How are you helping anyone by pirating?
Terrible analogy in general. If I were only gonna consume media by people I like there'd only be like two shows I'd be allowed to watch.

I like some of Neil C's stuff but I'd be lying if I didn't say that the guy is a colossal fucking wanker.

Porn artists are generally chill though.

When it comes to social media, I just message a few friends on facebook and thank people on my birthday. So I don't really have an opinion on the matter.

>Someone literally disagreed with him in a couple of minutes
>Thinking that /threads it

a few times, yeah. concerning tumblr, most artists have separate art blogs and personal blogs so most of the time you can just follow their art tumblr and never know what they're like as a person
Twitter is a little harder, most people don't have separate twitters for their art and personal stuff

Twitter makes pretty much everyone come across as a berk.

I stopped buying Southern Bastards after reading Jason Latour's Twitter.

If everyone using or following twitter, tumblr and whatever else there is would die now, the world would be a better place.

>Has social media ever ruined an artist/writer/etc for you?
No
>Did you ever think they were really cool based on their works only to check out their Twitter or Tumblr?
I only follow a few artists on instagram to see some cool art, but I don't follow comic creators for tidbits about their personal lives or opinions

i was going to say no but then i thought about the shitfits Frank Cho's been throwing all year

>ghettoposts

?

If a comic artist I like said kill all niggers, I'd like their work more.

I like to completely ignore social media entirely, it's giving too many retards an opinion which they think actually matters.

It was really hard for me to admit that American Alien is good.

Grow up OP

Responding to your own post over and over doesn't mean multiple people agree with you.

Porn artists are chill as fuck. They understand what they're doing is just for fun.

Though the minority that aren't chill are insane/assholes.

There's no right or wrong way to enjoy and appreciate art. If artists' social media presence is a big part of how you appreciate art, I'm not going to take it against you.

However, if disagreeing with an artist's behavior on social media (or their general public statements on things like socio-politics) so negatively impacts how you perceive their work, well, you're probably going to end up with a pretty limited world of art to appreciate. There's nothing interesting about living in a bubble where the only opinions that are allowed to circulate are those that agree with yours.

People are bound to say things on social media that you will disagree with from time to time. And you know what, having your views challenged—and occasionally changed, even—is an important part of becoming not just a better Sup Forums fan, but a better person in general.

>And you know what, having your views challenged—and occasionally changed, even—is an important part of becoming not just a better Sup Forums fan, but a better person in general.
Except people who bitch on Twitter are hardly trying to incite a debate. They're just bitching in hopes their fans will agree or to stir up shit. Kind of like how people come here mostly to shitpost or bait.

>That's like saying you can give a guy a blowjob even though you hate him as a person because you can separate his penis from his personality
Well, yes? Are you supposed to fall in love with every person you fuck?

I imagine that becoming "internet famous" at 13 or so would do terrible, terrible things to your personality. Sort of like real celebrity childhood, except worse because the 'fame' is so shallow and meaningless.

He definitely seems a bit... touchy.

And? You don't have to engage in debate. Let them have their Twitter moment. Move on.

If you're going to cut out from your life art that you genuinely enjoyed just because you don't like what the artist said on social media, that's your prerogative. But you keep doing that and you're going to end up living in an echo chamber sooner or later. And there's nothing fun, interesting, or aesthetically stimulating about that.

imagine hating someone so much that you pirate their dick instead of blowing them for real

I generally assume I wouldn't get on with most creators anyway.

I just keep up with the few I know I like, which I can generally tell when I really connect with a thing not just like it

>That's like saying you can give a guy a blowjob even though you hate him as a person because you can separate his penis from his personality.
Oh, you think there aren't a plethora of women and fags that do just this. So D-bags got good dick game.

Eh... I don't... I don't really like most artists as people to be honest. I think a lot of them are twits.

Being a good draftsman or a decent imagination has not correlation with being smart or wise or particularly intelligent.

Artists tend to be sentimental schmucks and drama queens too.

Neil Cicierega. It wouldn't be so bad if he wasn't so smug about his opinions, or maybe if I didn't feel like the only person who finds his smugness intolerable.

I think he was even younger than that.

In my opinion, self-awareness is something that can be learned, even if your development is stunted by external circumstances. I grew up isolated and didn't have any real interaction with other people until high school, but I can still see that pretending to speak on behalf of a minority group that you're not a member of is bad, and that making fun of people for their appearance or interests or beliefs is hypocritical if you also speak out against bullying.

Not tumblr or twitter but there was a youtuber I stopped watch because he was a dipshit global warming denier and I lost all respect for his opinions and credibility.

there are people i enjoy on social media more than i enjoy their work

Nick Spencer's twitter is hard going.

>global warming denier
I assume you didn't actually listen to what he had to say and assumed he was an idiot because he disagreed with the scientific consensus. Plenty of smart people buy into conspiracy theories.

I feel that way about Alex Hirsch, which is weird, because he's friends with Neil Cicierega, who makes great work but is horrible on social media.

For some reason, people who end up working on really popular or big shows, like Adventure Time, Gravity Falls, Steven Universe, end up being twats in real life. I don't think there's a correlation, just seems like coincidence smug assholes get work on really big shows. Why is that?

>Neil Cicieraga
>horrible on social media

Since when? He's very funny on Twitter, and his tumblr content has been consistently great.

Oh it was more then that, he went on to claim that people who "believed" in global warming were nazis because they were being so mean and bullying deniers like him.

Disagree on conspiracy theorists. I tend to lose respect for all of them. Though it depends on what they do. If it's some form of art they produce then I can ignore it. If they're commentators on some subject and objectivity is important, then it might be an issue.

No. But it's disappointing what you follow someone and they show themselves to be fucking nuts. Kate Beaton and the "I want to have your babies" incident comes to mind. I still read her work. But I'm sure as hell not going to pay attention to anything else she says.

>Roman Polanski sodomized a little girl

I thought it was statutory rape.

Alex Hirsch.

He fucked her in the ass, sodomy doesn't just mean rape.

Mark Waid is an unbearable asshole on twitter.

>butthurt Snyderverse fan

Surely in this analogy you'd be receiving the blowie from the person you hated, since I don't think people actually enjoy giving them, so it wouldn't equate to enjoying their work.

>Attacked Gail Simone for no fucking reason when she tried to play peacekeeper.

No you fuck off Waid.

>Letting ANY impression of the artist affect the art.

pleb

I mean, I guess Neil did do some music on Gravity Falls, but I can't think of anyone else from those shows that I really dislike.

>bronies are evil because they make vulgar comics about children's shows
>now excuse me while I make Ariel and the Seven Vaginas

There's also pic related.

Oh, that's different. Very different. He's definitely off his rocker.

What'd he do? He tweets funny stuff all the time.

Right, because an author's newly gained "clarity" on society/culture/politics/gender/whatever never seeps into their work.

It happened to Dave Sims decades ago, it can so happen in today's climate of widespread social upheaval.

Whedon, Rucka, Gillen..

What does being an adult have to do with that at all? It's like you labelled it as an immature thing despite being perfectly reasonably that someone's shitty personality can affect how you feel about their work as if that justified your own opinion. If anything you just showed how shitty you are yourself.

>Comparing an MS paint little mermaid comic to the pony fucker porn machine

>'I don't' is the same as calling someone a neckbearded pissbaby

"I don't" isn't supposed to be a specific instance of him making fun of someone else's appearance, but it is him egging on the hashtag mob.

And yes, the MS Paint comic is 100% comparable to Princess Molestia, which is what Neil spoke out against. They are equally inappropriate for children. Neither are graphic, but they both do refer to genitals.

Even if he was speaking against My Little Pony art in general, rather than a specific type of art, it'd still be collectivist bullshit.

Eh, Whedon means well. I used to follow him on Twitter, and I'm pretty sure he subscribed to SJWism because he was misguided, not because he was malicious. I mean he's not a true SJW until he starts bullying people, y'know?

If it seeps into their work, it would be the work that ruins them for you, not their social media.

I never liked this guy before, but his liberal hugbox twitter feed is sickening

Yes Jeph, only internet neckbeards could think your face looks shitty. Surely any normal man or woman who passes you on the street would think you're beautiful.

You know I don't usually give a fuck about the fashion/aesthetics of artists, except Jeph shoves it into his work and then throws his hands up like "How dare you have an opinion on this thing I'm cramming in front of your face, how ridiculous!"

I hate almost everything Frank Miller says or does, but I still love many of his comics, so I guess not.
He seems to have softened with age (and illness), though. It's almost bittersweet.

I've had some webcomics I'd been keeping up on for years that I just dropped after reading some artist tweets, though in retrospect I may have just been reading them out of habit and looking for a reason to get off the ride.

>watching a youtuber
wew

>Has social media ever ruined an artist/writer/etc for you?

Pretty much all of them.

Shut the fuck up about GamerGate already, god damn. Half of you people aren't even affected by it one way or another.

And the virtue signaling. God damn the virtue signaling.

Why don't you ever tweet about art or writing or shit? I don't give a fuck about who gets to shit in what public bathroom.

You're following the wrong people then, all the artists I follow are super chill and only talk about art and industry tidbits.

People are saying those piercings are gonna look shitty when he's old?

Cause that picture makes them look pretty shitty right the fuck now. That's not a good look at all.
