Interesting, with the removal of the houses in the background, it appears that Heathcliff is considerably higher up in the air. This adds to the humor of the situation, as cats are usually found closer to the ground, although it is not uncommon for them to climb trees and the like to get to prey, such as in this comic. Of course, Heathcliff's considerable girth does not naturally lend itself to great agility, and his funambulistic shenanigans would surely alarm the birds of his approach, at which point they can fly away.
