Yeah it's really really good.

It's a hybrid of "The Thing", "HellRaiser" and it plays just like a Lovecraft storyline. It's creepy as fuck too. All around an excellent movie. A tiny bit weak in the plot...but overall worth seeing. I might watch it again today.

been watching/rewatching a lot of Argento recently. Deep Red and Suspiria are probably his best. Tenebre and Inferno are great too. I watched the concluding chapter to the Suspiria/Inferno trilogy Mother of Tears, but it was awful.

Ill recommend The Blackcoat's Daughter. Its a bit slow at times, but the story is intriguing and the atmosphere is great.

I watched Afflicted last night. I really liked it. It was like Chronicle but with vampirism instead of super powers

Yesss it is very good i absolutely loved it. Not much gore or so but really good psychological horror movie.

It got compared mostly to Cannibal Holocaust but it's actually almost a total remake of Cannibal Ferox.

I bet you had to rely on terrible English subs and couldn't comprehend the subtlety of the French script.

Allow me to offer you a second opinion. The Void pays heavy tribute to Lovecraft without any tension building, I went back and checked and it takes 33 minutes before the characters are already fighting a monster. The movie moves at a breakneck pace, much to it's detriment in my opinion.

Visuals and effects are very well done.

The Void gets recommended in every fucking horror thread now.

But it's honestly not that good aside from some interesting moments.
It gets weighed down by some generic monster design, bland performances and a dull villain.

From Beyond did it first and better.

I didn't like it at all, and I love The Thing. Everybody talked and moved so slowly, in order to fill the 90minute runtime. I liked the creatures, but goddamn it dragged so slow. You could easily tell there wasn't enough content.

Having watched this and "I Am The Pretty Thing That Lives Inside The House" I'd say Oz Perkins is very good at building an atmosphere, both his films are very effective slowburns.

no, it's actually pretty shit

The problem (the main one, as there are a lot of problems) with The Void is that they didn't understand what kind of film they should be making. It should have been a siege movie about a bunch of CHARACTERS (because holy shit this movie needed some) fending off a bunch of spooky hooded cultists, that gradually became the creature feature that it was.

They blew their load way too early, within 15 minutes of the film there's already a scene of somebody becoming possessed (for no reason that is ever explained) and turning into a monster.

Is this any good?
It's been on my backlog since this guy recommended it to me years ago, but since his tastes in horror are questionable at best, I'm not sure if I should bother.

I've just started getting into reading lovecraft and I enjoyed it, even though you can tell it's cheap and the acting was shit. If I didn't get into lovecraftian stuff recently I probably would have just thought it was shit.
