hes a tiny little guy but is always portrayed in combat as a fearsome menace. everything is sped up, i know thats endemic of MA films especially in his heyday but they go overboard with him for some reason. he uses wires ostentatiously for everything, every guy he punches has to be yanked back 50 yards.
basically hes the anti-chan, nothing he does ever seems natural, the extreme artifice always pulls me out of his fight scenes.

In the context of the film it makes sense. Rob's lived his whole life sticking to a code of honor and throughout the film it's only caused trouble in his dealings with a dishonorable man. It is easy to act honorable towards honorable men and it is hard to act honorable towards dishonorable men but sometimes it is necessary to meet dishonor with dishonor. Cunningham's taunt of no mercy being asked or given allowed Rob to find a loophole in that code. Now at last he was able to bring himself to act dishonorably towards a dishonorable man; saving his family and his clan. So his cheating, in context, doesn't do anything to reduce his sense of honor since it was something he was forced into and one that he couldn't resolve through other means.
