I don't want to be the devil's advocate, but I believe it's a good strategy to see both sides : I've heard influential people often donate large amount of money to both parties in order to assure a cushion, or ''comfortable landing.
We see these people donated to the democrats, but can't see if they donated to the republicans. If they did so, and with roughly the same amount, then they truly are neutral.

My opinion was that he was murdered by a hit-team after he discovered the DNC would sell important positions to high payers.
