If black men are so superior, why aren't there any African-American novelists worth reading?

>African-American novelist
Are there any?

I don't know any great African American novelists but this Afro-Frenchie is one of the best of all time.

I screwed up my post. I meant to say "male African-American novelists," because there are a handful of female ones. But black males seem to be noticeably absent from the world of novel writing.

Frank Yerby.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Yerby

Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass

Nigger that taught himself to read and elevated his status to black man. Became one of the greatest orators of his time.

oh oh I finally remember

There was some kind of book by a nigress like crying blue eyes or something we read in high school instead of actual literature. It sucked and I forget what it was about.

I think that was by a black woman.

That was not a novel.

Chinua Achebe

>so superior
Why do you think they are superior?

Not to seem like I'm moving the goalposts, but I was referring to someone who is contemporary and still writing. We had the whole civil rights movement, and I just noticed there aren't any African American novelists since then.

Machado de Assis, even if not american

>Chinua Achebe
He's not African American.

>why aren't there any African-American novelists worth reading?
Because literacy is a fundamental requirement for becoming a novelist

fair enough

>not African American
you aren't very bright, are you?

>implying Toni Morrison doesn't exist

>hurr black men not niggers

Go to lebbit

You should read some classics like

>DIN DU NUFFINK
>MUH FUGGIN KFC
>THE WHITE MAN MUFFIGGIN GIVE ME A CHANCE

All the blacks capable of writing are too busy with non-fiction, e.g. Sowell.

>All the blacks capable of writing are too busy with non-fiction
Or plagiarism. e.g.Hayley.

Ellison, Baldwin, Toni Morrison, probably forgetting one of the "obvious" ones

I think (Nigerian) Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is brilliant though she's basically the anti-Sup Forums ideologically

I screwed up my post. Here is what doesn't seem to exist:

>African American
>male
>novelist
>active after civil rights movement.

There may be a few minor counterexamples, but by and large, this is a non-existent category. I just noticed it a few minutes ago.

>black women
uh, yeah, that's what "nigress" means

There was also that black lady poet who was appointed national black lady poet to read deep shit I think for I think the first black president (bill clinton)

But then again that's not a novel. That's on par with 45 minutes of black people singing patriotic to open the DNC convention so it wouldn't be racist to have two hours of mexicans come next.

>We had the whole civil rights movement
I wouldn't be surprised if America's post-Civil Rights academia has actually prevented numerous aspiring writers from a minority background from writing commercially viable fiction by funneling them into [insert demographic] studies graduate programs.
Oh, and this guy was based, too.

I'm just hypothesizing here, but I believe we don't see (nearly as many) black fiction novelists because they have lower levels of empathy than whites.

I believe there is a study to prove this, as far as empathy is concerned. Help me out, Sup Forums.

Hold on Caucasian!

Alex Haley (Roots)

I found one. His name is Eric Jerome Muhdickey.

There Eyes Were Watching God retard.

OP Langston Hughes

>If black men are so superior,
when did someone say this? You feel inferior because your dick? I swear you alt right niggers are so pathetic

Modern black authors write predominantly about "being black" instead of straight fiction.

The only works mainstreamed are ones liberal critics review and get put on the NYT best sellers list.

Forgetting he's 3/4 white.

>There Eyes Were Watching God
>There

Retard.

Their Eyes Were Watching God

Ayo hol up. I'm bout 2 chapters into writin my epic fantasy novel.

Now George R.R. Martin is good, and Ima let him have it, but my fantasy novel is gon b the best of all time.

>No one has mentioned Thomas Sowelll and Basic Economics

Dont know if he counts as a novelist, but Sowells books are a fantastic read.

so you'll just keep moving the goalpost until no one can actually answer you? fuck off

utterly BTFO

Chinua Achebe wrote "Things Fall apart"
Considered a classic of african literature

learn your history nigger

How will texas ever recover?

No I'm fine with those goalposts. I won't move them anymore. Promise.

Morpheus?

The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison

Fair point.

Since we are discussing black American writers, could someone explain what the fuck happened to Samuel R. Delany?

Alexandre Dumas
>3 Musketeers
>20 years later (aka 4 Musketeers)
>10 years After (aka Man in the Iron Mask)
>Count of Monte Christo

FML Nevermind not American...

Read Chinua Achebe.

He's a post-colonial era writer who's something of cultural hero in Africa. Arrow of God is great, but I love Things Fall Apart best. He writes about precolonial west Africa so it's a fascinating read, like going in a time machine.

Read Things Fall Apart here:

:)

But he isn't. Chinua is Nigerian, no?

Sowell is a fine writer but he isn't a novelist.

All this in spite of the fact that African American men have high levels of unemployment, which means they have 8 hours of free time every weekday that other people don't have because they have to work. And yet with all that free time, no novels.

...

Ralph Ellison

>why aren't there any African-American novelists worth reading?

APOLOGIZE

There is one black poet, his most famous poem is taught across the UK. Have a read, what does Sup Forums think of this literary masterpeice?
Dem tell me
Dem tell me
Wha dem want to tell me

Bandage up me eye with me own history
Blind me to me own identity
Dem tell me bout 1066 and all dat
Dem tell me bout Dick Whittington and he cat
But Toussaint L’Ouverture
No dem never tell me bout dat

Toussaint
A slave
With vision
Lick back
Napoleon
Battalion
And first Black
Republic born
Toussaint de thorn
To de French
Toussaint de beacon
Of de Haitian Revolution

Dem tell me bout de man who discover de balloon
And de cow who jump over de moon
Dem tell me bout de dish ran away with de spoon
But dem never tell me bout Nanny de Maroon

Nanny
See-far woman
Of mountain dream
Fire-woman struggle
Hopeful stream
To freedom river

But dem never tell me bout Shaka de great Zulu
Dem tell me bout Columbus and 1492
But what happen to de Caribs and de Arawaks too

And how Robin Hood used to camp
Dem tell me bout ole King Cole was a merry ole soul
But dem never tell me bout Mary Seacole

To the Crimean War
She volunteer to go
And even when de British said no
She still brave the Russian snow
A healing star
Among the wounded
A yellow sunrise
To the dying

Dem tell me
Dem tell me wha dem want to tell me
But now I checking out me own history
I carving out me identity

Ralph Ellison invisible man is fantastic. (I think Sup Forums would appreciate elisson's portrayal of a communist elite exacerbating and taking advantage of racial tensions to further their own goals )

Novel writing has always been dominated by white men.
Literature (not genre fiction) is a dying cultural endeavour.
The influence of white men is on the wane.

Coincidence?

V s naipaul writes good books about post-colonialism. His insight into the types of inept people that would be leading countries in post-colonial Africa was extraordinarily accurate and could not have been expressed by a white writer as they would have been accused of racism.

Bend in the river is my favourite
