Fuck movies.
Those hacks at GW should make Dan Abnett to finish Gaunt's Ghosts.

I'd watch a movie where a new taller Super Space Marine bullies an old manlet space marine.

After spending a few long sessions going through countless pages of lore, I have come to the conclusion that 40k would be almost impossible to translate to film.

Maybe the Horus Heresy of you had unlimited budget and numerous films to spread it across.

Are there adults who like 40K?

Yes, in fact many adult children enjoy a good WH40K.

You could fit the horus heresy in one movie. It would have to be a prequel to something or else it means nothing though.

New book this year finally I think

youtu.be/cZc6cr6G2E4?t=4m43s

You could easily make a 40k kino but you couldn't present the setting fully and completely that is standard in the movie format. Also some faggot hollywood studio could easily ruin the 40k charm. What makes 40k special is it's balls to the wall unapologetic. That isn't very marketable.

How do I get into 40k?

Why would jewish companies produce a high testosterone catholic white male fantasy that promotes xenofophia, rule of law, civilization and imperialism?

I'm currently getting into warhammer with my brother

What's different and so great about 40k? Is it just warhammer in space?

wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Emperor_of_Mankind

Have you heard of the good message of our lord and savoir?

It won't be done. Not in our overly PC culture.

I don't know. I think the Primarchs are one of the most appealing parts of the universe, and I would like to be able to flesh them out fully over a few movies.

>Is it just warhammer in space?
yes

2bh i find everything in 40k so much less impactful just because "This is just one of trillions of planets and bazillionfofillion humans in the meat grinder."

Fantasy is the patricians choice.

>Dark eldar and Slaanesh
Is there a worse fate than to end up with either?

They killed fantasy though. And it's untrue. There is still quantifiability in 40k.

>Out of touch Sup Forumsedditors

They destroyed the fantasy setting, and whilst it is the patrician choice it doesn't exist outside of small groups of hangers on and videogames.

Fantasy is good.
Age of Sigmar is bloated trash that doesn't have a direction.
40k is good.
Horus Heresy is Kino

>Daemons outside the warp

So? More than enough lore for me. And i've read enough "everyone dies the end" paperbacks from 40k to know it's just simply not engaging for me.

The vidya it's gotten in the last few years have all been great and i don't see it slowing any time soon, there's another two or three Fantasy game coming out soon.

Meanwhile the realities of Age of Shitmar means it's never going to get any coherent game that can pull off the jumping through 9 realms bullshit in an understandable manner.

>And i've read enough "everyone dies the end" paperbacks from 40k

You mean exactly the same thing that happened with WHFB? Also original fantasy games are gone from here on out. Just give 40k a try pal it's not bad at all.

Yeah, and i don't like end times. What's your point? 40k shows us you don't need to advance the plot, so why can't we just get more exploration of the Fantasy Universe (as we have been recently).

Also, as i said there are like 3 more Fantasy games slated for future release, it's getting a new lease on life in the Vidya world.

Certainly everything i've seen from fantasy is heads and shoulders above DoW3 or Space Marine in pure gameplay terms.

Get DoW2 or look at DoW1 cutscenes on youtube. They're fucking amazing.

yes, and?

>Written by Matt Ward

>and numerous films to spread it across

One Warhammer Cinematic Universe is coming up sempay

It would be shit because they'd make it about space marines, which would alienate almost everyone as space marines are inherently unrelatable.

It's not dead, for one, unlike Warhammer fantasy.
But fantasy was much more interesting and fun for tabletop.

YesIt cannot be

Bay and Snyder are perfect for 40k
>dark gritty stylized messiah figures
>EXPLOSIONS US..err ASTRA MILITARIUM FUCK YEAH EXPLOSIONS

There's already a shitty animation. Downloaded it recently and couldn't even finish it.

Basically this, they would be perfect for a 40k movie. Throw some Symphony X onto the soundtrack as well, don't tell me "church of the machine" wouldn't fit perfectly with the 40k universe

>40k kino
>not flick

doubt anyone has the artistic integrity to create a 40k masterpiece

/tg/fag reporting in, I can tell you right now no one wants (or will get) a 40k movie. For it to be good, it'll have to hit on all the gothic, Nazi-esque, John Blanche styled kickassery. However, this will alienate it from mainstream and if it gets big people will haaaaaate the Imperium.

Think about it, with success of movies like Avatar and shit most audiences are more likely to root for Eldar or Tau. The only way to get a genuine 40kino is something small, like Lord Inquisitor (which looks cool so far). But quality/authenticity vs marketability isn't anything new

Just read a book nigga, Ben Counter's stuff was great

>hollywood jews
>good for 40k

Guillermo Del Toro has the talent for it
Believe it or not, I think Peter Jackson would do a good job too, just can't let him get out of control

Maybe a movie about Gaunt or CREEEEED

>tfw no tragic Horus Heresy epic

I'd rather read a 20 volume, Preacher style comic than a movie. It would be impossible for film

Eh, maybe. But still, Comissars and whatnot wouldn't go over well, audiences just don't like grimdark and shitty realities, especially Americans.

Honestly, I don't see the point of a 40k movie. imo it'd probably be the same as vidya movies, just weird and kinda silly. Good 40k vidya though, we need more of. Space Hulk dindu nuffin

Manchilds are legally adults I guess.

IN THE GRIM DARKNESS OF THE FUTURE, THERE US ONLY WAR.

That's one of the biggest problems. There are no good guys in 40k proper. The closest thing to good guys are still a race of hierarchical space communists. Hollywood needs to have good guys.

Now as a TV series, you would stand a better chance. I would say that 40k is one of the few franchises where it isn't possible to go overboard on.

the lord of the rings fellowship of the ring was able to flesh out an entire party of characters and they became well established.

theres what, 4 chaos gods, 13 primarchs and emperor? you could easily fit that into a trilogy. easily.

Just make Ciaphas Cain movies.

Yeah

In the Felix and Gotrek books, you sorta got the feeling that they went around saving so much ass that these two people, TWO people actually managed to significantly better the world. In 40k, no matter what happens, even the most devastating defeats or victories don't mean much in the grand scale of things.

There's really interesting interview with both Abnett and Laurie Goulding separately talking about what was going on within GW/Black Library around 2015 which led to many writers dropping out, a reduction in new novels as well as the delay on the next Gaunt's Ghosts book (Warmaster - out Dec 17) coming out.

You can probably guess what happened - essentially the creative bit of BL, which included things like a Writers' Circle to discuss future novels (inc. HH) and how to tie them together, was shitcanned. Editors no longer had any control over the publication process and it was all turned over to Sales who wanted the authors to just shit out a production line of tie-ins, cheap novellas etc without any coherence. Unsurprisingly several authors & editors left (King, Goulding etc) and others slowed down their work (ADB, Abnett). Now, apparently, things have been reverted back to the previous system so some are slowly returning to the fold - hence The Warmaster finally being released (Oi Abnett you lazy fuck! Where's the new Bequin novel?).

The interviews:

Definitely worth a read if you have any interest in BL and what's been going on behind the scenes in the last few years - I've definitely noticed a real drop in quality since about 2013/14 and always wondered WTF happended - BL was basically a money print for GW.

(sorry for the /lit/)

You play Dawn of War, then learn about the memes

Because it satirizes it as well. It may be too bone dry for even hardened fans to catch on, but 40k is pretty much a future nobody sane would want to live in.

>Read first Gaunts Ghosts book
>Loved it
>Win a signed copy of book #2
>Never read it
>Bought book 3
>Never read it either

Is it time bros? Studies are nearly done for the semester so I can read something that isn't history for once.

>just can't let him get out of control

M8, Jackson makes schlock when it's not some dream of his.

>where it isn't possible to go overboard on

Matt Ward

Goulding and ADB making less material is a fucking Godsend.
The latter makes Matt Ward look like Dickens by comparison.

Matt "Necrons and Marines co-operate" Ward

>implying you could CGI Primaris Marines in a 90 min film at a reason cost

WEW LADDY BOY. Also I love 40k threads outside /tg/, simply because it's wonderful seeing people with less knowledge than /tg/ about a subject. It's quite fascinating.

Is Cain still going? Truth be told the premise had worn itself pretty thin about three or four books in but they were very entertaining light reading and that version of the 40K world is pretty atypical from basically all the other stories.

Are you implying /tg/ knows fuckall about anything beyond the limited scope of their hobby?
Like Sup Forums they are board built with foundations of ignorance.

>t. I only found 40k in 2013

Protip. Imperium and Xenos have worked together many times since the late 80's onwards. This is not unusual. I'm 100% sure you fucks don't do anything but read 1d4chan or listen to ArcWarhammer and think you know what you're talking about.

>Necrons
>Necrons
>Necrons
>And space marines

I'm fully aware that the Imperium has worked with Eldar and probably Tau before, but necrons? Fuck off.

Once upon a time they did. Not any more. Got invested with Sup Forumsirgins and Sup Forumsacks and raided by IRC/Discord Raid Groups. I no longer go there. But that's my point, /tg/ knows nothing and yet Sup Forums and Sup Forums knows even less. Look at all these people mentioning Matt Ward, a guy who hasn't worked for GW for 3-4 years, who's major 'problems' have been retconned cause people sperged.

Logan and Deadpool might have been really successful but I don't think Studios are ready to put $200 million into a hard R magical space movie.

Doesn't look like it, since it used to be a biannual thing.
Though granted, it's fairly open for more if he ever feels like it.

Cain would definitely be best for an adaption though, since it generally has the smallest scale out the books, and is definitely the most relatable.

t. Don't know what he's talking about

Google "Shield of Baal" and before you reply, Matt Ward had left GW by then, he didn't write it..

>a guy who hasn't worked for GW for 3-4 years
Oh dear, looks like someone's in for a shock. A particularly ironic one, given you just condemned others for not knowing what they were talking about

>doing a 40k film
>when Space Marines are being killed off/squatted

Hahahhahaha. No.

Uhh Ward was rehired dude
And look what happened right after

Ward came back last year, but he never said what he was doing and GW don't tell us who writes what any more purely because of the death threats sent to Matt (which made him leave in the first place). Nice try, faggot, but Ward hasn't done anything that we know of since he did End Times: Khaine.

Nice backtrack.
Keep going.

I know he was, but we have no clue what he wrote or what he did. As for Girlyman returning, again, we have no evidence to support Ward did this. Ward was rehired, probably to do this, but he left because of negative shit in the first place. Again, nobody knows what Ward has done or is doing any more. Furthermore, Ward hates Ultramarines, everything he's done is to make them so brilliant and great that people instinctively hate them. The Spess Muhreens he likes are Blood Angels and Grey Knights.

That explains the new Ultra Ultramarines.

>Primaris Marines are just for Ultramarines

is there a hollywood director and production team who can accurately capture the wh40k feel? the mixture of absurdity and horror and the character of each of the races/factions

video games succeed because the focus is on the action, however you can't be as forgiving with a movie as you can with a video game cutscene

Could a director portray the fanaticism of the 4 chaos cults, including the more difficult to understand nurgle? most likely they will insert their own memes and cliches, they will likely also tone down the shock value, the perversions of slaanesh which involves bestiality with demons which is borderline illegal in some countries, the Griffith style passion of tzeentch, some horror/action director might be able to portray Khorne maybe though

what about orc, tyranids, tau, eldar and necrons? do normies really "get" those, which will we see? how much will have to be left out to avoid a convoluted plot

You're baiting right? In the sea of shit that is cheap, burn & churn BL authors, Abnett & ADB stand at least above the lapping waves of excrement. Neither are going to be remembered in 50 years for their literary prowess, but at least they're readable.

>That's one of the biggest problems. There are no good guys in 40k proper.

H E R E S Y

Only movie that comes close in dedication and somewhat the tone is Black Dynamite.

So what you're saying is, you've never played any of the games, nor read any of the books, nor lurked in any Warhams threads? Daemons CAN leave the Warp, and cultists often summon them.

In age only

What the fuck happened with Dawn of War 3?

>Colourful DotA2 tones
>Marines have a bizarre fucking anatomy
>Heroes become MOBA units
>All relic-units are just fucking Imperial Knights (or variants of that)
>Not the same VA for Gabriel Angelos
>"Muh basebuilding" turned into some stupid half-assed schlock

People wanted fucking Dawn of War 2 on a vastly bigger scale. Gritty colours, blood, kill animations, perfect voice acting. Fucking space war. Dark and rough. Harsh and cold. Better AI and cover system, many, many more units.

>tfw like 40k setting and art but everything else is trash
:)

It's only hard if you put it all in one movie and expect everyone to be perfectly fleshed out in one two hour film.

You can easily examine the depths of each race / faction if you focus hard enough. It'd have to be similar to the MCU in the slow set up they did before going whole hog with Avengers. This is all assuming you want every race deeply examined, leaving the Crons, Nids and even to an extent Chaos and Eldar/Tau as mysterious would really serve the narrative of any Humanity focused storyline far better than explaining the minutia of the Aliens.

Only race that would need actual explanation is the Orks because "Wait what, they're fucking space mushrooms who are all telekenetically linked to just make what they want happen happen with genetically coded blueprints in their brains? Why are they football hooligans?" ect.

Ironic the most 'simple' race on the face is probably the most insane unique shit in the whole setting if you dive into it.

They fell for the e-sports meme.

I think blomkamp can chanelise his inner halo fanboyism into 40k

To do 40k right, you'd need to give the primarch's and their legions their own intro movies, marvel style.

This.
Kaldor Draigo is Matt Ward's 'Thrall'.

I kind of liked the Ultramarine animated thing.

Live action would never be able to capture the ridiculous over the top setting.

I think Legion by Abnett and Soul Hunter by ADB represents the highest mark of 40k literature so far, even though some great stuff has come since. I really love 40k and those two books just nailed it for me.

"No"

That's good news user! Thank you for sharing this. I was wondering why releases had slowed down

Jelly of the Hands m8
And the Tau are the only good guys in W40k

If Girlyman returned what happened to the current Chapter Master?

What was his reaction on the Ecclesiarchy, Inquisition and Imperial Guard?

GDubs released Primaris Marines to charge a bit more for regular marines

The regular good ole spess muhreens will be phased out in a few years

Watch this youtube.com/watch?v=huBXVQ9JS5g

Those are fine for the usual bolter porn (although Legion at least tries something different which is why it got a mixed reception). The Eisenhorn series for me really nailed the 40k lore and feel - away from the bloody battlefield and the true grinding nature of life as a human in an unforgiving universe. A lot of other books end up just being fan service.

I think even with things getting back "on track" for BL, the days of series like Eisenhorn, Shia Calpurnia, Cain etc (i.e. anything not Marines/bolter porn) are done.

why is it that slaanish cultist depictions never display huge orgies and wild fucking?

>communists
>good guys

Because the caste system, forced sterilizations and secret murders are sooooo much better

>implying nerd market is any significative

>finally getting around to reading the books
>finished Eisenhorn
>second book of Ravenor on hiatus
>well into the greatly enjoyable "Flight of the Eisenstein"
I know the HH kinda goes in order, but I'm not sure if I'll read them all. Feels like I've gotten lucky with the picks so far, any recommendations? Heard good things about the Grey Knights books.
