Gotta love those 6 month MRI appointment wait times.

You have to wait a while but everything is free. If you go to a hospital instead of a clinic you could be waiting for hours. Also everything is worse in Vancouver because of all the chinks.

Completely different in each province. I live in Ontario and it's decent, I did the math the other year I pay $70/mo (made $82k before tax) for my family of four. Not bad at all and if anything happens to me I know my family will always be covered. It's probably the only significant policy every party agrees on in this country no matter how big or small no matter and no matter what corner of the country they're in.

Ontario posts all of their wait times online and i've found they're comparable with Illinois and Michigan.

I had to wait like 16 hours to get some pretty serious surgery it sucked. but I couldnt have afforded it any other way.

pretty shitty. pretty much a joke

You do have to always wait at least two hours in emergency. This is so people don't abuse it. Just always remember if we wanted to expand our universal medicare program we would. We generally like it how it is.

under funded, over strained, and this doesn't even address the brain drain problem that the usa causes on us.

But hey its 2016 and we need more people in canada apparently.

If you're a perfectly healthy individual who only needs the yearly vaccination or check up, it's fantastic. If you're elderly, sickly or just bad genes and need to see a specialist, good luck.

if you want quality you have to go to a big city, wait months. most doctors dont know what the fuck theyre doing. its pretty much 3rd world

I know a dude who's been waiting 3 years or something to get his ACL replaced.

>underfunded

fuck off

>everything is free
Except, vision, dental, most physio, most medical supplies, drugs...

What you said is a 100% factually wrong.

If you have previous documented heart conditions or are a pregnant woman you get expidited treatment.

if your anything else you can expect to wait 3-6 hours.

2012 more doctors came from the USA than went. The brain drain myth was invented by fox news after we laughed in Bushes face when he invited us to Iraq.

Remember Sup Forums 4/5 of the largest vpn providers are Canadian because we don't have data retention laws or secret courts.

Obviously if you go in there with a bullet in your head you will get treated immediately. Anyone who isn't a total fucking retard knew what I meant. Broken ribs, glass in the foot, tooth knocked out, shingles, etc.

Drugs are subsidized and cheap.

I just called in saying that a mole on my neck hurts, which could mean melanoma, but they can't "fit me in" for another two weeks. So if it is melanoma, hopefully it doesn't spread to my lymph nodes by then.

Preventative medicine is definitely cheaper as a whole, but doesn't giving free healthcare to everyone feel like it's looking at the short end of a problem? Why do we have a society where in we have people so fucked they can't manage to make minimal insurance payments?

It's like blaming the gun when the reality is we're the society that created a shooter.

It's really nice to have, but sometimes you have to wait a long time to get something done. Sadly it doesn't cover dental, vision, drugs, or anything like that.

physio is like 10 bucks for your first dozen visits if you have coverage

its more then just the numbers its the quality.

The best and smartest go to work in an environment with less taxes more money and more nice weather.

If we truly are so rich with doctors why do we have to higher 3rd wolrd doctors that aren't even registered as real doctors and undercut their pay consistently?

Majority of doctors will take your appointment then do fuck all, prescribe you with anti-biotics. You still have to pay up the ass for most medications - For example, we will give money to people to be transsexuals but will often not pay out for diabetes medication. Wait times are ridiculous and you have to wait ridiculously long. If your face gets smashed in and you've lost all your teeth, don't expect any help on that either.

NHS is far better.

Depends on the province in Ontario all of this is covered for kids and for people on disability and welfare.

As stated above it varies by province. I can call my family doctor and get in the same day 9/10 times. I had to wait about 3 hrs to have my spline removed and my grandfather had his knee replacement within 3 weeks of referral. My wife has been waiting 4 months for her scope however as its deemed low priority.

its shit dont believe to propaganda and the free stuff meme

pretty decent so far. My mom almost died due to her own stupidity, but they managed to keep her alive. waiting at a clinic is usually an hour to two hours

In Ontario doctors are required to have half of their day open for same day appointments.

you can get actual surgeries extremely quickly and when you need something to live it is free but there is a cut off point that isn't immediately obvious and you will NOT be told unless you specifically ask. My grandfather became blind and nearly unable to move after a stroke but because he technically didn't need any medical help to live he was charged for palliative care every day he was in the hospital.

What province is physio not free? Its free here and fairly short wait times 3-6 weeks. I can get private physio and skip the wait for 15 dollars a session with no medical.

Average MD salary in the USA after conversion: $343k.

Average MD salary in Canada: $310k.

If the brain drain meme was true the NHS wouldn't exist.

Idk.. But I broke my ankle once, and I went to the hospital, and I was out in a week.

GO 2 A WALK IN!!!

agreed

but wynne wants everyone on welfare so she can stay in charge. hurrrr lets double electricity prices this november reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Im in NS and thats not the case here. I just here have an awesome doctor that genuinely cares about his patients. He says he rather lose 50 or 60 dollars then be booked and have someone who needs to see him go to a shitty walk in.

Do the math. I bet most people in here pay less than $30/mo in taxes for their healthcare so put that in perspective most of my friends pay $200-400/mo in the states and wait just as long as I do and have to go to certain hospitals.

simpletax.ca/calculator

also if you don't get hurt at your job UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES PHONE AN AMBULANCE IF YOU CANNOT AFFORD IT, get absolutely anyone else to drive you there.

1 Canadian Dollar equals
0.76 US Dollar- 7/26/2016

then factor in taxes (which is higher in canada) now factor in cost of living (which is higher in canada).

don't believe me if you want, they take our best and brightest and we are forced to import in 3rd worlders.

The wait anything not immediately life-threatening is pretty horrible. I had to wait 14 months for an allergy test.

This comment sums it up well for me. Our biggest worry is the $40 ambulance fee (waived 90% of the time) or $5 for parking.

yep. this is how it works

It's shite lad.
I spend 2.5 hours waiting yesterday just to speak to a physician to get my asthma puffer prescription redone.

Our shit is like 3rd world tier, and the people here with enough money will travel to the states to get real health care .

You can't even spell 'hire' i'll be certified to practice in less than 4 months and both my father and grandfather were general practitioners.

That's where your employer comes in, NEET.

40 dollars? It just my grand parents 437 dollars EACH because of a car accident. Thankfully the other car was at fault and had to cover it.

where do you live that the ambulance is only 40 bucks? a five minute ambulance ride for me when I broke my leg was over 3000 dollars

...

Why don't you have a family doctor and make an appointment you autist? Also pharmacists can renew non-opiod prescriptions it's your fault you're retarded don't blame it on the state.

Why is Canadian healthcare so shit? Norway also has "free" healthcare, but it seems to be a lot better here.

>have $500 a year i have to split on dental and vision. (tried to convince others to push for better health plans they were never interested).
>make people thousands of dollars a day in profit.
>get "laid" off when oil falls down because there isn't enough work, notice that the boss man is keeping all his pet foreigners and TFW on board.

ya man...sure is fucking great white north in here.

We also pay less than 1/3rd of the taxes you pay. If Canadians wanted a doctor on every street we would simply do it.

simpletax.ca/calculator

Go on welfare and all of it is covered. This is why you've paid taxes.

Wait times can be a pain, but the quality of service is just fine. Wait times would be reduced if it weren't for retards going to the hospital for a cold or flu or sprain instead of the damn clinics that are also free.

You always hear rumors of "people dying in the waiting line" but I've never once had a confirmed story of that happening.

That all being said, there is bloat in the management that needs to be removed, the system could certainly be made more efficient and cheaper, but it works quite well. I wouldn't travel anywhere in the US without separate travel medical insurance

I broke my metaparsal bone in my foot and went to the ER for an xray once. Waited 6 hours because it was flu season and every asshole withing a 1000 km radius needed their coughs checked out. Finally, met the doctor and he took me to the lab, my foot was about the size of a grapefruit at that point since it had swollen so much. Xray took 5 minutes and the doctor looks at the xrays, wont show me them, and says he'll call me in 2 days with results. Went home, took some pain killers i got from Shoppers, and wrapped my foot with a nice little bandage. Woke up the next morning and got my Uncle to set the bone for me.

I never heard back from that asshole doctor and I won't be back to the ER unless I'm wheeled there on a stretcher. But hey, at least it was free

Congratulations? Your superiority complex is already clouding your vision/ your a stupid shill liar fuck babbling more garbage.

Considering that I've grown up only knowing my own system, I can't imagine it any other way. I'm not saying that every iteration of universal healthcare is effective, such as Obamacare, but I think ours works very well for us.

>not being man enough to get injured in the U.S. and make it back to canada

faggot

My dying mother was stuck in the hallway for over 5 hours in a Mississauga hospital surrounded by shitskins before they got her a room to die in.

But at least it was free.

i had to wait almost one year just to get surgery on an in grown toenail.
meanwhile my toe was practically rotting off from the infection.

Ontario wait times: health.gov.on.ca/en/public/programs/waittimes/

I'm starting my residency soon and I'm planning to stay in Canada to set up my own practice.

Medical liability insurance is higher in the US. And as someone mentioned, patients have much higher average medical costs, too.

>Not using FastTrax for prescription renewal
>Not making a fucking appointment, not like this was an emergency
>Probably went to the damn hospital instead of a clinic too

I have asthma too, always keep 4 refills on the prescription which keep me going a full year at a time, and never have to wait. You're just an idiot.

Most of the people really bitching work shit jobs with no 3rd party coverage. I have all my prescriptions covered 100%, 5K dental a year, 2500 optical and 1750 for elective treatments. It cost me 27.50 CAD for a senpai of 3.

What the fuck?
I guess it really does vary from province to province.

It's okay that's happened to me too in Alberta. I was 4 and had drank a shit ton of poison and apparantly I waited in the hallway on a gurney in the Calgary childrens hospital for TEN HOURS while my stomach litterally digested itself. The nurse had forgotten about me and by the time she remembered I had to have emergency surgery instead of a simple stomach pump

Quebec has notoriously shitty wait times. Alberta and Ontario do fairly well, they do especially well in the rural areas.

I'm never sick so can't help you bud. This thread is a good read though. Take care and stay white user.

some things:
-if you complain about wait times while being in a major city, you can just go to a smaller city's hospital a small drive away and get served immediately.
-in BC you pay for health care, something like a few hundred bucks every few months.
-if you think you have something serious maybe don't go to a walk-in clinic, they're often undereducated and way busy, and you could just get sick from other people in the waiting room (and they almost killed me, telling me to ignore a life threatening problem that had me hosptialized for weeks).
-but if you're having trouble finding a family doctor, by law in BC if you go to one a number of times without one, they become your family doctor if you so wish.
-there are private clinics for a number of things. if you need to be seen quicker and have money this isn't a problem

better than America. in America getting real sick with no insurance means a lifetime of debt for your family

These horror stories happen all over the world it's hardly limited to Canada or even socialized medicare.

the only difference is that we only paid an ambulance bill and didn't go into debt over it like in America

there can be expensive ramifications for getting sick out of province. many cases it's a matter of forwarding the bill to where it needs to go, but you can still be dinged with shit that won't be covered

It (mostly) works, but the wait times are atrocious. Some of the more pressing but expensive treatment options can take years. MRI wait times are up to 6 months in some places, transplants can take years to find. Surgeries requiring more than 1 type of specialist are nearly impossible to schedule in a timely manner, to the point where people die.
>This all varies quite wildly from region to region
>Rural areas tend to be very fast for simple things up to basic surgeries but take forever for complex things and complex things usually require travelling to a big town
>Urban hospitals take forever for something like an infection but are the only places where you can get MRIs done and complex and time consuming procedures.

i went to emergency about 4 month ago because i had sharp pain in right side, waited 12 hours in that filthy packed emergency room. Pain went away and doc told me to take tylenol/advil if pain comesback

I live in KW and the most it costs here is 400 if non-emergency

I've never had a problem

Beats paying like 200 dollars a month like Muricabros

in quebec this is particularly annoying. fuck quebec. there are a -few- places who will see you for free in montreal, like head and hands, but you will be served like a lottery. if you're number isn't picked you're SOL. most health shit will be out of pocket. you WILL have trouble finding a family doctor. you will encounter language barriers if you don't french. you could just become a citizen of La Belle Province, but when you move from it, they don't cover shit out of province, so you have to start again with the process

damn shame about those government subsided cabs & $15 a day daycare.

its 2016 don't worry.

My grandma needs a new hip; she walks with a cane. She was put on a year long waiting list.

What would she expect in your country?

Pretty bad, father waited fucking months for a kidney stone, never got treated.

Shitskins treated instantly though.

it's far from ideal, low on the first world rankings, but, you don't have to deal with the same bullshit and predatory shit like in the U.S.

most ERs only have one doctor on staff at night, in major cities, wait times are disturbing, worse in quebec.

for the amount of money we put in, we don't get the adequate service, much like the states, which, before we all declare private is a better option because _____

Americans fork over like 8 times as much as the swiss and have nowhere near the same quality of private healthcare, because it is more rigid in it's regulations and oversight.

keep in mind the healthcare isn't "free" taxes pay for it. and there usually is a private option too, just nobody opts for it out of affordability. keep in mind our taxes are higher, so in a way you already pay for healthcare coverage.

bottomline; okay, not good, needs improvement, the fundamentals are met for the most part, but the waiting times are unheard of for non-emergency and sometimes even emergency scenarios.

hmmm, well I hardly take advantage of it, I hate queues which is the main con, but I literally get paid to be a part of out HC in On.

This thread just shows how fucking ignorant Canadians are, they think medicine outside of Canada is like an episode of House.

Same shit with UK, when you give something free to people they start complaining.

If you live in a major city then shut the fuck up about wait times, YOU are the reason for wait times just like YOU are the reason there is traffic.

Doctors are morons the world over, they dont have magical cure-alls like on TV. There are just as many shit doctors in the US as in Canada, it's up to you to find a good one.

If you want to skip the line and get instant surgery you can just drive across the boarder and pay the high prices for the same level of care without the wait.

I've worked in hospitals in Europe, Canada and the US and the Canadain is top tier. Yes you can get a little better in the US but only if your mega rich, regular people will get regular treatment just like Canada.

Its a relief to know for acute illness/emergency it has your back. For the really poor drugs and chronic conditions are also covered.

Depending on where you live wait times can be bad for moderately inconvenient conditions, but the more annoying you are to the nurses and other patients the faster you get admitted.
Basically just scream in agony over and over again while sitting near admissions and their is no wait time. Or move somewhere white.

This imo is probable the best answer your going to get in this thread.

I've never gotten care in an emergency room in less than 6 hours. That said it's only been for broken bones and such. They prioritize the more life threatening things. It's not too bad, but it can certainly be bad. I definitely see merit in the way you guys in the states have things. If you can afford it, you get what you want, when you want it. No BS, nothing.

>not hearing back about a broken bone

Wew lad, what made me wut irl

Id honestly rather pay for a private system. I wish we could have both. A national basic health care system where you're safe from dying in the hospital or whatever with public dr.s if you get sick suddenly. But Also if you can afford better care and drugs you can pay for a private Dr and nicer facility and not have to mingle with the dirty natives in the emergency room for 5 hours.

Last time I took an ambulance, I had put a knife through my wrist and severed my radial artery (accident, not suicide). Ambulance cost 100$ with insurance, and that was cause they had to hustle me to the hospital.

I worked at a top-rate hospital in Canada, easily top 5 in the country. I worked in the support staff and was able to watch doctors, nurses, and others work.

Long-term healthcare is decent in this country, as long as it's a treatable and reasonably common ailment. Anything chronic and serious is better in private healthcare.

Any ER visits depend on the severity of condition, what hospital, and what time you arrive. That being said, I've seen people come in with stroke symptoms and flatline while waiting for a bed in our stroke unit.

A few people have died out of pure negligence that I'm sure the family never heard about, relating to oxygen tanks.

anyone want to hear stories?

Proofs?

I work in a hospital staffed almost entirely by Haitians

go on

I hope you like wait times and lines.

>mfw leeching off family's 100% coverage for everything
based employers

Free? Its 'free' because our taxes are ridiculously high.

You would also think a country like Canada would be ranked in the top 10. We were ranked #30 in the world. For a first world nation of our stature thats embarrassing.
thepatientfactor.com/canadian-health-care-information/world-health-organizations-ranking-of-the-worlds-health-systems/

As a patient of the system I understand the ranking. Let me explain in bullet points.

>There aren't many specialized hospitals. For example Kidneys, Cardiovascular, Cancer and Children.
They are quite spread out and the quality will be poor to good. Reputation spreads and people will say things like "if you ever have problems associated with ____ never go to _____ city hospital, try and fight to go to ______ city hospital. This should never be an valid opinion. The standard should be the same calibre of professionals and technology. A guy in North Bay shouldn't have to be flown into Hamilton. Thats ridiculous.
>Wait times
Because its socialized medicine. In theory they already are paid. Therefore they arent getting any more benefits by taking in more people, being speedy and working hard. These nurses are unionized and get paid 25-36$/hour. If they feel like a superior is pushing them too hard they can just go to their union shop stuart and 'grieve it'. Meaning...she has rights and you are infringing on them as a worker by making her work too hard. They are entitled to a certain number of breaks and if you are scared and think you are dying do you think shes going to give up her coffee and smoke break? True story. I was in a small hospital in Dunnville Ontario where a family member was having a bad seizure. Seizures were not normal and have never happened to this person. As you can imagine we freaked out...we called for help but no one came so one of us had tl run down the hall to the nurse desk where 3 nurses and a doctor were smiling and talking about their weekend. We then said 'GET IN THERE!'

Had reasonable service. I believe it helps if you plan ahead. I avoid walk-in clinics because they're usually packed unless you queue up in the morning. Was surprised that you had to pay an ambulance fee but it was only $40. Less financial stress and less jewsurance to deal with. I only wish they would cover non-cosmetic dental and some drugs.

Continued.
They stared at us blankley and again we said 'MOVE YOUR ASS!' and finally they walked briskly down the hall to him rather than run.
>appointment scheduling...even for serious conditions and disease.
This is a real problem here. I know someone that has developed kidney disease and instead of going on inmediate dialysis with 8% functioning kidneys...they made this person wait 5 months to finally recieve dialysis. At the very least this person was living off blood oressure pills amongst other pills so they wouldn't die (literally). Now you got to ask yourself...how many peoppe in other circumstances have died waiting that we dont hear about?
>Small town vs. Big city
The quality of technology and care from a large city to a medium town is astounding. Firstly we are ranked 30th so our best hospitals aren't even that good. Now imagine a small town centre in the middle of a farming region. Its the only hospital in an entire area that serves a total of 100,000-250,000 people that live in small communities and in farmable land. The quality just isn't there. Its like a 1930's hospital with students running it. Its a fucking joke. If there is anything serious they have to make calls and arrangements for you to be driven or flown out to a 'good' hospital. So in otherwords if you are dying in your innawoods home and drive 30 minutes to this hospital. They might keep you alive long enough to send you to the 'good' hospital....maybe.

Canadian healthcare is a huge fucking meme. Its literally garbage.

The City of Hamilton in Ontario is probably the only city that is doing it right. Toronto isn't even on Hamiltons level and I highly doubt Montreal and Vancouver are on Hamiltons level. Best way to describe it would be think about having one good city in America for healthcare. Lets say New York. Then the rest of the country had Idaho tier healthcare. Tl;dr but Its an angering subject. Lots of people die here and are laid to the wayside because of negligence
