Hello, I'm from Canada

>Hello, I'm from Canada
>Hi, I'm from the Netherlands nice to meet you
*American walks over*
>I'm from Utah

Why do Americans do this?

They're unaware of how big the world is because they rarely if ever leave the country

Every state is basically like its own country.

wtf america

wouldn't the next question be "where in canada?"

Same goes for Mexico and nobody says "I'm from Oaxaca"

I'm from Victoria

Chicanos always talk about the place where they're parents are from... unless it's Oaxaca. No one wants to be from there.

utah is 5x the size of yuro countrylets

>Hello, I'm from Reddit.
>Hello, I'm from 2ch!
>Praise kek, Sup Forums is fucking based 1488 gas the kike race war now

Why do 4channers do this?

Yeah because Quebecoise like being in the same boat as the rest of Canada. Also, if you as a Canadian ask an American where they are from we are assuming what state because unless your the aforementioned N.American frogmen, you are the same thing.

I don't want people to think I'm "American" so I just say Appalachia.

>Same goes for Mexico and nobody says "I'm from Oaxaca"
Your countrymen here (and no not just illegals but one who came legally and have actual jobs) answer their state or city.

But you are American. To me it doesn't matter if you're from New York, California, or rural Texas. It's all the same to me. America. Regional distinctions don't really matter to foreigners unless they specifically ask. I don't tell people I'm from Cornwall, I'm British. Even though we have our own identity.

Americans identify very strongly with their state to the point where it's the secondary country.

Americans are just retarded like quaint little children.

they absolutely do. Argentines and Brazilians do it too

I don't think you appreciate just how distinct the Appalachian region of the US is to the rest of America. Our families have been in the mountains and foothills since Colonial times. The rest of the country ignores us and our struggles because they don't want to help us. Many make no effort to hide their disdain for us and our ways. We are "hillbillies" and we are "backwards". Their is no police presence in many places and everyone is perpetually poor.

We are the descendants of Ulster-Scots and the English. When Sup Forums thinks "America" they should realize the States their stories come from are the ones settled by ethnic Germans. Germans who did not share in Enlightenment values. Germans who support federalization and policies that threaten us further.

please hover your mouse over my flag and read to me what it says

Mate, I couldn't give a shit how neglected your little gay mountains are. You're American. The US isn't the only country with history you know.

>I don't tell people I'm from Cornwall, I'm British. Even though we have our own identity.
yeah, nice try, but you would say you're from England, a Scotland would identify as a Scot, as would a Welshman. Brits are in no position to criticize us for this, in fact they should be in a much better position to understand why we do it, so I'm going to assume you're baiting.

You realise European countries have even more distinct regional cultures? Appalachians are just drug addicted unemployed coal miners with Virginian accents.

>be an Asian American
>Hello, I am from the US
>Where are you originally from?
Every fucking time

Almost always. op BTFO

>subcultures don't exist in a country the size of Western Europe

Talk to a Californian then talk to a guy from Idaho and tell me it's similar

>In Milan
>Have to be patted down to get into church
>Take out the shit out my pocket as they ask
>German Lady in line goes "W-what passport is that?"
>uh the United States
>Looks confused
>America
>Ooooh!

it's because a lot of americans don't come into contact with people from other countries too often. Canada does the same shit too.

Sudacas BTFO

And? Its still nothing compared to the difference between two nations.

No, most Brits really don't do that. Not unless they disapprove of the UK anyway. The England/Scotland/Wales dynamic is because we are a union of nations. Different situation. You don't hear Yorkshiremen identifying as from Yorkshire, despite having a population higher than Wales and Ireland, and almost the same as Scotland.

California is more of a country than Canada

>Appalachians are just
Keep telling yourself that. You are jealous because all you have is America's exported fake manufactured culture.

you're right California is more like Mexico

I'm from the Maritimes and we've got more culture than your cousin-fucking mountains.

>is because we are a union of nations. Different situation. You don't hear Yorkshiremen identifying as from Yorkshire
US states are constituent members of a union, the same as the UK. The fact that you're drawing parallels between English counties and self-governing states with huge economies and populations of which we are citizens in addition to the US shows you don't know remotely what you're talking about.

I get asked "Oh where?" after saying USA/America to people. Hell even when I travel around the US if I just say "North Carolina" to Americans I generally get asked where in NC, etc.

It has less to do with subcultures and more to do with size. Nobody cares if you're from Cromfuck England or Dickturd on Thames because England is fucking tiny.

Canadians are just angry that no one cares about Canada

Interacting with the plethora of nationalities here in China, Brits will only introduce themselves as coming from their constituent country if they're talking to native English speakers.
With Europeans, Asians, etc they just say they're British.

I don't think you realise how similar people in the US are, even if they're in completely different states.

How often do you get people do this to you
youtube.com/watch?v=Uzae_SqbmDE

Can your states withdraw from the union?

America's a very new country mate. Distance doesn't mean shit there when all the natives were wiped out to make way for colonists from the same regions. Cultural differences are minuscule at best. Compare that to Britain where cultures have developed over thousands of years, from tribes to kingdoms to empires to democracy. You're comparing apples to oranges lad. Demented.

>Can your states withdraw from the union?
no, but they have had home rule for their entire existence, something which only one UK nation has which wasn't gained until the 21st century.

This is quite simply not true, any of it.

>if I say it isn't true than it isn't
talk to me again when England, Wales, and Northern Ireland have parliaments. Of course that privilege would be handed down from Westminster, though, not a constitutional right as it is in the US.

>Compare that to Britain where cultures have developed over thousands of years
Yes. It isn't as if these same distinct cultures came to America, settled in different regions, and continued to develop for the last 3 centuries. What a crazy idea.

>2ch
literally what???

hello newfriend!

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Assembly_for_Wales

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_Ireland_Assembly

They don't have actual parliaments because they're overwhelmingly dependent on English and Scottish taxes, if they were more independent they would become even more deprived shitholes, just like your rust belt. It simply makes sense to roll them in with England in the main British parliament.

Except they didn't. They immediately mixed and became mongrelised varieties of Yank.

it's supposed to be a joke, because since October it's actually 5ch.net

fair enough, but the average US state is devolved pretty much the same power over its own affairs as Scotland is, which is not at all insignificant in how Americans construct their identities.

>They immediately mixed and became mongrelised varieties of Yank.
Yes. The isolated peoples of Appalachia mixed with 19th century German, Italian, and Irish immigrants.

I suppose that is why going back 8 generations on all branches I only have 2 ancestors who were not descendants of Ulster-Scots or English immigrants. One was a Frenchman and the other a Native.

God you're dense.

No

Americans actually think anyone cares about their meaningless amerisquares because they never leave the cunt

Fuck off with your trashy, drug infested, broke as fuck, trailer park, god bless America, country music is good, m-muh truck, dey ain’t taking away my guns, bullshit. Nobody in this country gives a shit about your shitty ass mountain rehabilitation center. Fuck off please

Actual Appalachian here. You're being a faggot. Stop right now.

>Hello, I'm from Canada lol JK Im from China.

Happened to me like 5 minutes ago.
Told him I was born here.
>Yeah but like where are you actually from.
Dude I was born here and so where my parents and their parents.
>Oh like I get it but like there weren't any Asians that far back man
And You white bois wonder why Changs and Pajeets outperform you. Whites are to Asians what blacks are to whites

No, you're mistaken

>"Oh, so you're from Europe?"
>"Yes, but to be more specific, I'm actually from Belgium. You see, all of our countries are so unique and different, it's important to specify. because otherwise you may think I'm from Poland!"
>"Oh, cool!"

>"Oh, so you're from the US?"
>"Yes, but to be more specific, I'm actually from Maryland. You see, all of our states are different and have different cultures, mannerisims, etc, so it's good to specify, otherwise you may think I'm a hick from Arkansas!"
>"OH MY GOD AMERICANS NOBODY CARES WHERE YOU'RE FROM AMERICA IS ENOUGH JESUS CHRIST LIKE SHUT UP ALREADY THERE IS NO REASON TO KNOW WHERE YOU'RE FROM AT ANY LEVEL DEEPER THAN YOUR COUNTRY, GOD."

Nobody says "I'm from Europe"

Europe is a continent you fucking idiot

Morelia here

Oh fuck off
I'm asian and I'll ask other asians what they're ancestry is so I know whether to trust them or not.

You are retarded

Because each american state is more important, relevant and popular than most of your """countries""" lel.
I think that even here in russia majority of people know that Utah is an american state, while most people probably don't even know what's the difference between Holland and the Netherlands.

what's the difference between Holland and the Netherlands?

States speak the same language, have the same consitution, most have similar laws, identical cultures, and identical people.
It doesnt really tell me much when someone says they're from Florida or Alabama, California or Arizona, same difference.
If someone says that they're from France vs from Germany i expect twi very different people because the countries are very different culturally

My state is as large as several of your states but I wouldn't say that I'm from there if talking to someone overseas on the general subject of which country I came from. I'd say from the east coast of Australia, to provide a bit more geographical reference they will understand without making them feel awkward if they don't happen to know about the different states here.

Sup Forumstards are unwelcome outsiders.

They do when they're in the US, buddy.

The absolute state of Appalachia, everybody.

Go back to Sup Forums nobody cares faggot

this desu, saying everybody knows where california, texas and new york are?

this desu, saying everybody knows where california, texas and new york are

>be in a greek club
>bunch of girls come
>they ask me where i am from
>tell them macedonia
>Alexander is greek she tells me
>she proceeds to leave

Why u do this golden dawn bitch why

Because United STATES of America u dumb moron. And your Canada is so irrelevant no one would know its part in detail but most people have a clue about Utah.

I hope this wasn't a real story
