Does anyone feel like David Lynch has descended into mental illness? I don't mean mad genius or misunderstood artist, I mean genuine, psychiatric illness of some sort. I'm three episodes in and there's no order, no structure, no fucking technique at all, and what made Lynch good is that he could balance his own weirdness with the demands of his medium. This isn't even Twin Peaks, this is Lynch playing with his own bodily emissions in front of a camera.
I'm trying to enjoy what I've seen so far, and straining my brain to 'see' what Lynch see, but I'm drawing blanks. it's schizophrenia on film, and if it wasn't for Lynch's so-called 'genius' they would probably institutionalize him.
People have been saying that kind of things about Lynch pretty much ever since Eraserhead.
You don't like it, just watch something else.

>no order, no structure, no fucking technique at all
How fucking stupid can you be

>demands of his medium

Also, it's obvious that you haven't watched any film by lynch. This new season is pure lynch, without any constraits from the producers. His creativity is limitless aparently,
David Bennett
I've seen all of them except Wild at Heart.
>his creativity is limitless aparently >what is self-indulgence
Christian Williams
Ive been anticipating these threads before the new season even aired. This is gold.
Jack Hughes
>there's no order, no structure, no fucking technique at all, So you didn't understand that Bob killed escapes from the lodge and created the box to trap cooper once he comes back. Then created derpy so he can send him back instead, and kill coop? That wasnt really hard to figure out man, like, catch up dude.
Ryder Phillips
>I've never watched a David Lynch movie before
Tyler Lewis
Its funny how Jay from RLM predicted these kind of comments in their FWWM re:view.
Liam Lee
Lynch's work is chock full of symbolism and visual metaphors
only problem it only makes sense in his own head

Typical for Draman Lunch, the performances are disjointed and corny and there's so little plot this might as well be a phony student avant-garde shitshow.

Nicholas Cage is fucking garbage in it and was a complete goofball as usual.
Grayson Hernandez
He's always been a hack. The only difference is that people are starting to realize it now.

Touched a nerve I see.... A bit defensive about how people are starting to notice your pretentious Lynch sucks dick, aren't you?
Zachary Thompson
You're saying what people have said about Lynch for 40 years. Just accept you are a level 1 thinker and go back to watching Walking Dead
Gabriel Thomas
>A bit defensive about how idiots are using social media to confirm themselves that they are indeed not too stupid for the show and its all just one big pretentious circlejerk Not him, but yeah its annoying. Just another example of how social media gives a "voice" to plebs, making it seem like their ignorance is actually justified.
Well you have all the chances. Its not like we prevent you from widening your horizon. Thats all you.
Juan Thomas
Lynch is probably the least pretentious guy in the whole industry, his films are exactly what they are without any pretend.
Show me a video of him saying anything pretentious about his films, I'll wait

Is Sup Forums social media now? You just making up new rules all of a sudden?

Fuck off. Malick is pretentious.
Every Lynch scene can be explained. Pure symbolism and art.
Of course if you had two brain cells to rub together that would be obvious. Anyway go ahead, wallow in your own stupidity. Let real kino lovers watch this, u go tend to some other shit u pussy

Yep, I see what you mean but I don't think symbolism is the word. The surreal parts might have some explanation, but it's never as symbols. Most of the times it works as pure surreal, weird stuff, purely formally. And I honestly love it.
Then there might be a reason for things, and have a plot, but I don't think the strange stuff (like a guy without an arm) is meant to be seen as a metaphore for something else.
Ayden Phillips
I honestly hate /tv and the brain dead edgemasters cunts like you guys.
Here we have a master director giving us Kino and saving us from the usual tv/hollywood crap yet you unwashed simpelton plebs can't even fucking appreciate it.
I curse you all and hope you off yourself

I loved each of them about the same actually. I'm still in "oh fuck yeah its back!" mode to be honest. So it might take a while for me to rate the episodes individually.

After seeig the new episode yesterday I am convinced Lynch has been incubating this idea in the vat of LSD that is now his brain.
Henry Lee
What's with all the threads shitting on him and the new show? Did he insult Trump or something? I know those princesses from /r/the_donald always start spam-bombing the board when someone does that. I bet he tweeted something that triggered the girls.
Owen Phillips
>You won't pretend to like it, just watch something else.
fixed. there cannot be anyone who honestly enjoyed Eraserhead. It's a shit movie deliberately made to be weird and artsy for its own sake. there is no substance to this film. anyone who has actually sat through its entire runtime did so just to pretend to have liked it.
Zachary Cruz
You don't actually watch or care about film.
Joseph Martinez
I agree. Fuck Lynch and fuck crazy people
Jordan Young
Look here you fucking shithead cunt, you have a right to dislike anything you want but you don't get to dictate how other people react to a work of art. Thinking that nobody could like what you dislike is the dumbest fucking way of thinking about art and most people grow out of it before they're ten years old.
Fuck yourself.

>this is Lynch playing with his own bodily emissions in front of a camera. Wasn't that basically his MO since the very beginning?
>he could balance his own weirdness with the demands of his medium. Nah he didn't give a fuck about the demands of the medium in Lost Highway, or Mulholland, or Inland Empire. It's weirdness for the sake of weirdness, but that kind of thing is fun to watch in its own way and literally no one else could secure funding for doing this level of weird on mainstream TV. That's all there is to it really. Lynch is just a name, but you need it to get bizarro surrealism on Showtime.
