Comixology launches new digital comic subscription service

ComiXology has announced the launch of comiXology Unlimited, a new service which will give readers "endless access" to thousands digital comics, graphic novels and manga from select publishers for $5.99 a month. ComiXology Unlimited will be available on any device, both on the web and through the comiXology apps.

For the flat cost of $5.99 a month, readers will be given access to titles from Image Comics, Dark Horse Comics, IDW Publishing, BOOM! This includes series like "The Walking Dead," "Hellboy," "Saga," "Attack on Titan," "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "Lumberjanes," "Transformers," "Love and Rockets," "Archie," "Invincible" and "Locke & Key" among many others

So... like Marvel Unlimited, but not for Big 2? Neat.

it's cool enough but I wouldn't want to pay for it

You mean like I pay a subscription and I can read all the unlimited books without having to pay for them individually?

Not actually. First trade of WicDiv and Saga, for example, are on it, but nothing following is as of yet, so it's probably not going to be as regular as Marvel Unlimited. It's more of a sampler/get you hooked, although there's some big stuff included like some Peanuts collections.

...

...

Love it, so happy to be able to try some random shit. Love I can grab rando Fantagraphics books that look interesting.

I wonder what the line is for new releases. Marvel Unlimited is 6 months iirc

and I want more manga but since they only have a volume or 2 of stuff i'd probably just get annoyed. i want a manga version of unlimited cause i dont trust this scanslated shit

>i dont trust this scanslated shit

the hell does that mean?

I cant even find the link for the subscribe button or some payment shit.

>paying for free stuff
good goys

So basically DC is, once again, the only big publisher behind the times.

What is DC doing wrong, exactly?

Why would they give up a shitload of content for almost no return when their regular digital sales do really well?

Is there a list of the included comics?

DC should just license their stuff into Comixology.

A quick glance and this looks mostly like vol 1s and #1s

Not terrible but if they don't put continuing stuff up it'll lose appeal fast

It's meant to hook you into buying ala carte single issues and subscribing to individual titles.

Nevermind, just scrolling down the front page of comixology is a current showcase for a lot of the titles.

I get that but I guess Marvel Unlimited having extended runs up spoiled me

>regular digital sales do really well?

You don't know that, nobody knows anything about digital sales numbers.

Pls respond

Yes.

It's exactly that, fucking read the terms and conditions dude.

How so? DC has successfully focused on digital distribution of new material, with several hits. Nobody gives two shits about the books Marvel done on their infinite digital first line beyond the recent Nicieza's Cable & Deadpool story. An unlimited service requires a lot money and effort and Marvel's app is still buggy as fuck, with annoying holes in the catalog if you aren't reading Avengers related titles.

Where's the link for the subscription? I can't find it.

can someone rip Usagi trades from Unlimited?

That gives me nothing to click on. It's just an about page. This is all im seeing.

Which ones? Almost all of Usagi is ripped, I think.

Why the fuck would I bother using it then?

You need a amazon account for the 30 day trial.

Is it in the UK?

US only right now.

>Doesn't have the entire catalogue
>No new releases
>$5.99
>Not in the UK
God damn.

Haha no thanks

Thank you for the list!

I already have an Amazon account and there's no useful links anywhere in that site.

comixology.com/unlimited
and this
comixology.com/unlimited/learn-more

are fucking the same.

There is a link to the help section in the fine print of one of them.

Is there some service like that but FREE?

Yeah, you're standing on it.

It seems fine for its purpose which seems to be an easy in for people new to comics but it would be nice to see a proper non-superhero subcription service

They didn't notify a single creator about this who wasn't also a publisher. Do the creators even know what rate they are getting?

>let's make comics more popular!
>let's give the people making them even less money!

>rotating

I think I'll give it a shot, at least for a couple months or three. I realize it probably won't have the latest issues for a while (kinda like Netflix is right now), but I want to see if it'll gradually add more volumes over time, or at the least cycle in one-shots or limited runs.

Does the Marvel app offer the entire catalog of Spider man and X-men, plus new releases?

I never knew they had a netflix for comic books. Is there any for dc?

Yes for the catalog, no one new releases, only stuff as recent as six months ago.
DC's not interested because they make too much selling individual back issues.

It has everything Spider-Man and X-Men that's worth reading.

>it's a "company does something that infringes on creators' rights" episode

yawn

he's talking about fan translation of mangas he's reading. It's often inaccurate and unreliable
