How is he a villain when he did nothing wrong?
Agree. He's a better developed-character than any of the actual humans he interacts with.
Covenant really establishes him as a protagonist rather than an antagonist. He's the guy with the motivation, who drives the whole story.
He was the best part of the movie.
He literally did nothing wrong.
i hate this fucking edgy teen meme
>prove me wrong.
he's well acted certainly. his motivation is retarded
he singlehandedly killed the franchise when he killed the interresting aliens. now we got again the ratlike shits which only cause screaming and dieing people... fucking boring shit we already saw in alien1-2-3-4avp1-2 etc
>his motivation is retarded
What was his motivation again?
Create the perfect alien race
>Create the perfect alien race because bored
ftfy
Not really sure it was because of boredom. David was intrigued with the idea of creating life when he wasn't bored, in Prometheus.
was the intro the moment where he decided he hated humans? when dude told him to get the tea?
He's basically playing Patrick Bateman. What's so impressive about that?
btw
how the fuck did the hibernating coffin catch fire from the inside?
why was the bitch so retarded to get the mass bleeding, obviously contagious crewmate to their only ship?
yeah i didn't appreciate how much she panicked. thought she was supposed to be strong womyn but she freaked the fuck out
Why does a robot need to grow hair? For that matter HOW?
This movie was retarded.
The ending was even more retarded when Daniels couldn't recognize that it wasnt Walter.
The whole slien making process was retarded as well. A fucking amdroid amd fassbender singlehandedly ruins a franchise.
His motivation is to wipe out humanity so it can be succeeded by his own kind. The xenomorphs are just a means to an end. Did you even watch the movie?
If this was his motivation why didn't he fly the engineers ship to earth to use the black goo?
I hope he's being paid more than all the other actors combined because he carried the fuck out of this movie.
Because like Walter said, when one note is off it ruins the whole symphony eventually. David is flawed. He has motivations like his dad (create life to succeed him) but because David AND Weyland are flawed they end up doing immoral shit to create life.
Walter is the best, he was just doing his job.
Nah I'm not convinced of your theory. I think he mostly wants to create life, and if some humans have to die along the way, so be it.
Yes, and he carried the movie.
I wouldn't have minded the male captain to be the protagonist instead of the chick. Make Ripley special.
Because the ship ends up embedded in a mountainside (for reasons completely unexplained by the film t.b.h.)
Clearly he decided the Engineers were the greater threat, but will presumably get around to dealing with the humans, now that he controls the Covenant.
>Because the ship ends up embedded in a mountainside
Instead of flying to the engineers home world, he could have flown to Earth.
What did he say when Billy Crudup asked him what he believes in? I already forgot.
You just wouldn't understand the quest for genetic perfection
How is creating the facehuggers an improvement when the spores did the same job better and much faster?
He's the antagonist bc the main cast, which we follow, have the primary goal that is established much prior. I would definitely not suggest he's a villain however, just that he creates conflict. He should have been the protagonist, like Satan in Paradise Lost. The film was going to be called Alien Paradise Lost but I guess they didn't think to write movie from mostly his perspective. It could've been really good.
Saw covenant in theators yesterday. David was well played but written retardedly. How the fuck was the ol switcharoo supposed to be believable? Worst twost ever.
Because the facehuggers creates the perfect specimen
>He's a better developed-character than any of the actual humans he interacts with.
Which is the biggest flaw of these movies so far.
It's great to have a great villain, sure. But even when he's the protagonist there need to be interesting, relatable and sympathetic characters to play his villainy off on, and so far both films have been lacking that.
Classic xenomorph didn't do anything the white one couldn't.
Resist bullets.
I didnt like how they made Androids into marvel heroes in this movie.
>when David Horishima the Engineers
The ending of Prometheus was to find the Engineers and ask the million dollar question has to Why? but instead we get this bloated piece of garbage with more plotholes than the first one. Shaw getting killed offscreen was the same shit they pull in Alien 3.
Alien: Awakening better have answer to all this mess or let Scott retire already ffs
Why did David kill all the Engineers? Why didn't he try and work with them?
The spores indiscriminately kill all non-vegetative life. Presumably the facehuggers are able to maintain some kind of homeostasis. Also David is buttfucking insane in case you didn't notice
But the Engineers had to be dealt with first, because they were the more advanced race.
The humans would presumably have been next, if not for the unexplained accident.
Why is this not in the movie though? I was wondering why David was just suddenly put back together again.
They never get a good shot at him; the white one was standing still, no shit it died.
And in Aliens they die like flies, so no.
While most of the cast was "I am here to die badly" I thought Tennesee, Daniels, Oram (Crudup) where done well, and Bichir guy was at least someone who stepped up from "Crewmate no 5".
To be fair, from David's perspective, he was meant to be an extension of humanity's vainglory; a slave modeled in its likeness. Perfect in every way except being organic.
After seeing the failings of humanity and the Engineers, he sought to correct what he thought was the fallacy of organic beings. Was he a genocidal nutjob who unleashed untold death and destruction? Yes he was, but David can't help but do what he did. He's taking his programming to the next logical conclusion based on his skewed and limited assessment of bio-life.
Is that what the next one is supposed to be called?
The only reason they didn't follow up Prometheus' story was because so many fans got butt hurt it wasn't a typical alien story, when it was never supposed to be one in the first place. It fell flat in places, but it had a lot of big ideas.
Also, didn't Naomi refuse to be in another one?
Did you miss the part in Prometheus where one of them ripped his head off?
They consider him an abomination.
See: Shaw ask "what if they are no better than us?"
David answer "so long they are no worse than us."
Likely he found out that the Engineer are much worse than humans.
Walter was right though, David was wrong about the author of the quote. He is flawed, he can fuck up.
>But the Engineers had to be dealt with first
Not necessarily. Earth was closer so it makes more sense to kill Earth first. Thus, I do not believe his goal it to wipe out humanity.
more like this is implying hes letting it grow, but it would have grown way longer than this in 10 years so he cut it, but why does he have it at this length at all?
Did you forget? M-41 rifles in Aliens are fucking badass. They are not 20th century bullets. They fire 10 millimeter explosive-tip caseless bullets.
this is way better than the actual movie.
Yeah, these androids are way too strong. Now I remember how Ash was defeated by a bunch of space truckers.
Isn't David supposed to be like one of the end all be all androids, though? He was created by weyland himself.
>Earth was closer
O RLY?
Also, David had Shaw to deal with, who was calling the shots. He was nothing more than a severed head until she put him back together, so she was flying the ship.
I thought they fired Naomi?
Can't blame the fans when the marketing for the movie was stating that Prometheus is the origin of the Alien but instead the origin of Mankind? Scott needs to let a great director take his franchise and give it a new spin because he can't focus on good story telling without coming out as a pretentious director with huge ambitions. James Cameron is running laps around him, and you'll see that with Avatar saga.
If so, why can Walter keep up with him?
Isn't Walter basically supposed to be a slightly more suped-up David? That's probably why
The chestburster scene is cute.
Walter mentioned him to be an outdated model who kept freaking people out, indicating something that happened while the one in the movie was busy having his torn-off head used as a flail mace against Old Man Weyland. I'm pretty sure there were more Davids.
So eh, how did the eggs come to be exactly?
>Also, didn't Naomi refuse to be in another one?
She was basically fired.
She was supposed to take more English lessons to have a better accent, but she skipped out, Passion was a bomb, and she a year later did not speak english better, and her star had been tarnished, so she was written out.
Somehow in movie magic news return home that Weyland got fucked and David was inferior on protecting his master. So some guy took the blueprints and modified it to make Walter clones.
He's a Mary Sue.
>Which came first, the biomechanical killing machine or the egg?
Mystery solved.
They should've gotten a different actor for Walter. If Davids are a crazy, outdated model, why would they basically make a brunette version of that?
David pooped them out.
Well he's fucking Fassbender so he'd be paid more even if he wasn't carrying the film. He deserves it though.
David created them. He has an entire bestiary of the shit he spliced together from the black goo and the animals that were made extinct during his decade-long Dr. Mengele role-playing
He fails more then once, so no
Some studio-exec at 20th century fox wanted them there
what did david do to shaw?
to do what he did, all these experiments, he would have needed at the very least 50 years.
also why didnt he get killed by any of the killing machines he created 24/7. or at least mauled. also why the cycle is so fucking fast. fucking pleb movie cant into scale, any scale, hence all feels cheapened and microwaved.
David was first of kind so obviously you start from there.
They made it seem like Walters were supposed to be better, but Walters seem shittier, so I don't know what that's supposed to be about
Does this retcon the original Alien or not?
Love
Did they ever explain the Vickers-Weyland connection? Would that make her David's kind of sister?
used her as a model for the chestbursters. She was the only living human on the planet so the egg>Facehugger>Chestbursting idea had to come from somewhere and it was most likely from experimenting on her.
Also he mentioned to Oram how the eggs need a mother. I thought that's a clear indication what happened.
>also why didnt he get killed by any of the killing machines he created 24/7.
The alien has a long history of ignoring robots unless they interrupt what it is doing. Ash, Bishop, Call, and David have all shown that.
>also why the cycle is so fucking fast.
Ever watch alien, when it goes from a foot long chestburster to the alien in about 4 hours?
Waters were upgraded Davids with some key items such as the ability to be creative removed. This was due to Davids "Unnerving" people.
Yes, the eggs need an incubator, a "mother". Otherwise fucking useless.
Engineers played God.
Mankind played God.
Of course the creation of men will play God. And will do a better job
>Not mentioning best androids that were ignored by Ayylmaos
user...
What the fuck was his problem?
He made eggs from her.
>Did they ever explain the Vickers-Weyland connection?
Vickers was the daughter of Wayland, or a synth built in her image depending on who you talk to.
kino
Vickers would be way too advanced to be a genuine synth from this era.
I Was keeping it just to the movies, The Working joes where awesome and would love to see them in a movie at some point.
If the entire point of androids is for them to mimic human beings, wouldn't that make Walters kind of worse, tho? By removing the ability to be creative, you take away a key aspect of humanity
Acting like a sociopath is not a desirable feature.
No shit, but reducing them down to talking toasters who can't contribute isn't either
>so she was flying the ship
No, obviously he was in charge because I seriously doubt Shaw would have bombed the entire planet of Engineers when it was her entire motivation to talk with them.
No. They already tried (and fucked it up) in Prometheus, and steered well clear this time.
>running in a straight line away from rolling object
>advanced
Apparently David was too uncannily human and freaked out everyone. Ultimately they were still a product that was meant to comfort its owners, not fuck them up by making them have second thoughts on whether they have an actual human slave or an advanced robot.
