Not that guy but the curved design is made to help with hacking wooden doors open. The way the edge is angled due to the curved handle concentrates all the energy on the tip which makes it easier for the axe head to pierces wood.

I know that fireaxe handles are usually curved a little, I've just never seen one curved that much

Probably someone thought that curving it that way removes any pivotation issues.
When looking at it again it doesn't look curved that much. Every time I stop looking at the picture I can't help imagine the axe being a fucked up shape.
