Men wise enough to be able to predict aspects of the far future. It provides us with the views and ideas of antiquity and it is these views and ideas that can give us a solid foundation upon which to guide our experience of contemporary times.
Science and Statistical Analysis are not belief systems, they are a means by which understanding is achieved through gathering information and drawing conclusions. Both are inherently rendered pointless when any form of dogma or bias are involved, which is why they are not reliable methods of constructing ourselves as wise, knowledgeable, and ethical beings.

I'm currently reading the ESV Study Bible and am impressed by how well it explains things for modern understanding. I would say that my beliefs align closely with deism/pantheism as well.
