Was that movie any good? I mean, Edwards didn't set the bar high, but I hope he's at least competent.
G2014 is decent. I'm a big Godzilla fan and I wish I could love it more but the 2nd act really, really drags. I appreciate it most of all for making a Kaiju cinematic universe possible.
Kong was much more entertaining.
Blair Witch? It's middling, unlikable characters and overscripting ruined some relatively interesting kills and lore.
His movie before that however, The Guest, is pure fucking kino.
Well, I loved You're Next and The Guest, but they don't really give me an idea of how he'd tackle a kaiju movie.
Kong was fairly comfy. It wasn't mind-blowingly amazing, but it was a fun movie start to finish.
I'm shocked people in Hollywood would trust him with a hollywood movie after he threw a hissyfit on twitter when Blair Witch came out.

I meant Blair Witch. I echo your sentiments regarding G'14. My biggest problem is that the movie is almost all about the Mutos. Godzilla is a side character in his own movie.

Kong was utter shit. Literally like if you gave the chode from your film class a multi-million-dollar budget and a beloved intellectual property and said, "The bewildered herd will give us our money back no matter what, so just go and have fun."
All hope is lost for this series. They're making it for twelve year olds, which is appropriate since Bryan Singer compatriot Michael Dougherty is directing the second one and it's starring Millie Bobbie Brown.

Kong was pretty bad, it turns into a comedy halfway through when John C Reily shows up randomly. Brie Larson's acting is really unconvincing, she just looks like a dumb dog smiling into the camera half the time. Also Sam Jackson is a pretty one dimensional antagonist. Really poor choice of casting but maybe the script was shit to begin with, I can't really tell.
