>Detective Comics returns to its old numbering with a new concept and creative team in DC Rebirth, with writer James Tynion IV, artist Eddy Barrows, inker Eber Ferreira, and colorist Adriano Lucas joining forces to explore the next generation of Gotham superheroes. The series also sees the return of Batwoman to prominence in the DC Universe, working with Batman to train Red Robin, Spoiler, Orphan (the new codename of former Batgirl Cassandra Cain), and the reformed villain Clayface to take down the rising tide of evil in their city.
>These preview pages of next week’s Detective Comics #934 introduce the Batman family’s new threat, and it’s one that looks a lot like their leader. The creative team does great work building suspense in these pages, and this is easily some of Barrows and Ferreira’s finest work at DC, elevated by Lucas’ bold coloring that amplifies the tension with a strong contrast and warm and cold colors. It’s an exciting action sequence that establishes how dangerous this new Darker Knight is, and there are some especially striking shots of Batman when he hits the scene after the villain has fled. The storytelling is clean and dynamic, and it should make for some thrilling superhero team adventures when Batman and Batwoman get their students together.

Only lettered previews of Action #957, Aquaman Rebirth, and WW Rebirth remain (one of them will be released on CBR by Monday)

Daniel Morris
Arts pretty good. Kinda weird that tynion is using the Arkham Knight story line without Jason being the knight.
I sure as fuck hope we don't get another "villain" out of this. Bat's "associate - list" is already filled too the brim.
James Reyes
Oh, evil copy of Batman? Is it time for Thomas Jr.? Or that weapon-seller guy, Wrath I think his name was?
Alexander Cook
Afaik the last time we saw Azrael was in Batman Inc. when he gave Bruce the suit of sorrows. Did he turn up in B&R eternal?
Owen Ramirez
...
Adam Wood
He did. As one of soldiers created by Mother and sold to St. Dumas.
Joseph Morgan
At first I thought it would be Jason again but it probably is just going to be clayface judging by the cover
Nolan Hill
Wait, so if Rebirth "gave back" the ten years that were taken away, then what's Azrael's deal? Did Knightfall still never happen? What about No Man's Land with Cass?
Dylan Nelson
>put together Rebirth to fix the New 52 >continuity is still an absolute fucking mess
Jacob Cook
Nah, Jason is infiltrating Gotham. With Bizarro, god Lobdell what were you thinking. I don't know about Clayface... he was heroic in Batwoman. Then again, Snyder's last issue had him in Arkham so fuck everything.
Andrew Jackson
>eddy barrows
why does he still have a job after all those chins?
Justin Bell
It hasn't given back anything afaik. It was just a confirmation that somethings were taken and the next few years, the major story will be getting those things back.
Juan Evans
>Tynion IV
Joseph Robinson
>Jason and Bizarro But when are we getting the team-up we really need-Bizarro, Solomon Grundy, and Manbat?
Landon Edwards
>Eddy Barrows OK art's good but what the fuck is Barrows doing on a bi-weekly book?
Matthew Scott
When Grundy leaves Earth 2.
Austin Kelly
The JSA already has, Grundy will return when Allan does probably
Carson Fisher
Fine, replace Grundy with Frakenstein. He is, afterall, a Grundyman.
Oliver Hill
Alvaro Martinez is the other artist.
For twice-monthly books they need more than one artist.
Luis White
Why do you want Frankenstein ruined forever user?
Caleb Williams
I know but it still doesn't explain how he's on bi-weekly book. He can't do monthly schedule, he's off the book 4 issues in. They'll need a lot of fill-ins.
Ayden Clark
Right, completely forgot about JSA coming back. Hope Abnett will continue writing.
Kayden White
What do you mean? How would that ruin Frankenstein?
Jason Walker
Nice art, too bad about Tynion and the eventual return of fan favorite Harper Row.
Evan Diaz
>You... you did
Colton Myers
>return of fan favorite Harper Row. in book 5.
Thomas Morgan
The second I see her in solicitation, covers or anything else, I'm not even going to bother with this book's storytimes.
Samuel Lewis
Harper Row is cancerous anyway.
Jaxon Peterson
>Cassandra has the old mask sans the ears >still keeps the shitty Orphan outfit Just make her Batgirl again.
Ryder Russell
Hmmmmmm. Thomas Wayne Jr? Hes been missing quite awhile now.
Jacob Johnson
She's not as marketable as Barbara
Luis Miller
Have Babs actually become Batwoman then and get rid of Kate. She's hardly a "girl" anyway.
Camden Watson
Nah, Batgirl needs to be into selfies and instagram. It's hard to do that with a mute assassin.
However, as a compromise, instead of a Chinese Batgirl, you can have a white girl going on a backpacking trip *through China* to ~find herself~
Gabriel Robinson
>It's hard to do that with a mute assassin She hasn't been mute for a long time, man.
>However, as a compromise, instead of a Chinese Batgirl, you can have a white girl going on a backpacking trip *through China* to ~find herself~ Like Babs could actually manage that one.
Jacob Ward
I'm actually curious to see how Jason will interact with Bizarro.
Austin Thompson
>you're stupid >thank you!
Dominic Howard
Are there any good Bizarro stories besides A-SS?
Joseph Ross
Forever Evil.
Jose Taylor
Oh man, I love Azrael.
Hunter Carter
Give her Jim's Batman costume and give her the full on mask and belt. The fact that Gordon's costume was so good, and it would fit her character so well. But nope. She's wearing basically the same costume from B&RE.
Christian Rodriguez
Bizarro will be dependent on Jason like Roy was, Jason will insult Bizarro constantly and Bizarro will think he's complimenting him, and Jason will feel protective over and camaraderie with him but will rarely show it.
Josiah Long
But he'll constantly think he good friend Bizarro is. Fucking Lobdell.
Brayden Ward
What's wrong with her?
Caleb Peterson
She's a pet OC, great at everything, everyone loves her.
Jordan Wood
My waifu should be in comics, not her.
Joseph Cox
Well, the first five pages don't appear to have anything at all to do with the comic's stated concept, nor do they involve any of the main characters. That's the kind of start I expect from Tynion.
There's just no god damn way this isn't a disaster, is there?
Noah Gutierrez
Yeah, but that appearance better be ignored
Brody Rivera
Clayface is supposed to be a good guy in this
Oliver Stewart
Kirk's too good for those losers.
Christopher Hughes
kek
Brandon Clark
She hasn't been written well by anyone. They made her this star child everyone immediately loves and respects at first sight, who acts bossy around established heroes and so on.
Daniel Young
Damain and Dick are too good for those losers.
Elijah Howard
Man, I'm really going to miss Jason and Roy being Bros.
Jackson Allen
I mean considering Tynion wrote a book called "Batman and Robin Eternal" and left Robin out until the very end....yeah, my expectations are not very high
Daniel Young
That was weirdly alright. Hyped for the full issue.
Nathaniel Bennett
>implying any of that shit applies to Batman continuity? Johns almost ruined everything with the 3 jokers bs
Joshua Myers
You forget how well Joker sells. The Bat-verse has always played by its own rules as opposed to the rest of DC, but this time it happens to be for the worse.
Dominic Cook
Given how they turned the plot in Forever Evil into Grayson, I'm confidant they can do something with it.
Wyatt Mitchell
I think I like the coloring a lot more than the pencils, better than your usual DCfare.
Ian Morales
The Rebirth put back stuff like the original Teen Titans, JSA , 3 Jokers, the existence of Wally West.
Batman stuff may be hand waved in but this Detective Comics run is predicated on both Eternals being in continuity, and those volumes introduced the 90s trash that star in this book
So I would expect the portrayls/origins from Eternal to continue to form the base of those characters. But look for this book to bring back the 'classic feel' for those characters.
Tynion is a confirmed 90s-00s nostalgia fag and this book is the culmination of the Batfamily fanfiction he's been writing since then
Noah Edwards
It won't be. Tynion has stated this will be something of a successor to that.
Caleb Thomas
American comic books are surprisingly hardcore stuff tbqh senpai
Connor Gray
That's why I only read manhwa
Kevin Richardson
I thought the 3 Jokers thing is just more proof that the DC Universe has been fucked with a few times.
Hudson Green
>But look for this book to bring back the 'classic feel' for those characters.
So does that mean Tim, Steph, and Cass will get into a threesome together then?
Anthony Jackson
>Tynion is a confirmed 90s-00s nostalgia fag and this book is the culmination of the Batfamily fanfiction he's been writing since then
If he's such a fucking fan of these characters then why did he personally fucking ruin Cassandra's reintroduction with his bullshit retcons?
Evan Turner
Fuck.
Elijah Wright
>So does that mean Tim, Steph, and Cass will get into a threesome together then?
Cass and Steph will lust after him, but Tim will turn them down saving himself for his true love Kon
Nolan Lee
>heroic Clayface >not Ethan Bennett Being a TheBatmanfag is suffering.
Ryan Jones
Lies! We all know what Tim's true love is for... Jet skis.
Though if both wear Batgirl outfits, Tim's only kink, he's doomed. DOOMED!!!
Blake Wood
If we killed Tynion right now, would it be too late to fix 'Tec?
Leo Johnson
>Damian reaction >Homoshipping
Get the fuck out of here with that.
Lincoln Butler
>Escape from Bizarro world >Paktion comics right before truth >Bizarro comics >Trinity >Forever evil
Samuel Harris
>Paktion comics right before truth
I think that one was full Kuder. Still good though.
Adam Ward
It couldn't hurt.
Jeremiah Phillips
So why Is Tyion considered a bad writer? I don't think I've ever read anything by him that didn't go beyond painfully mediocre
Gavin Phillips
You didn't read Batman and Robin Eternal?
Samuel Hughes
>So why Is Tyion considered a bad writer?
BRE was unbelievably bad. And this comic is supposed to be a direct sequel to BRE.
I have such negative hype for this comic that it's unreal. "Watchmen 2 written by Chuck Austen and drawn by Rob Liefeld" level antihype. I love these characters and I just know he's going to completely ruin them.
Henry Wright
>Sam Humphries takes over Detective Comics starting with issue #959
Lincoln Brooks
We just have to kill Humphries, too.
Adam Adams
No. I have mostly ignoring a lot of the Batman stuff during nu52
Dominic Gomez
>Kate Leth joins the DC Comics Family exclusively to write a year long arc on Detective Comics.
Charles Hall
Aquaman preview is out, on newsarama I think
Levi Walker
Fans are butthurt that the comic celebrating the 75th Anniversary of Robin turned into a Harper Row story.
It was alright. The art near the end was the true horror show of the comic. Also Tynion IV was on the mark with Batman/TMNT.
Ryan Carter
>It was alright.
No.
Even if you ignore how the comic failed at its implicit goals, it was also a failure as a story. There is no perspective from which it's okay.
Wyatt Wright
Cass is in a lesbian relationship with fan favorite Harper Row.
Parker Rogers
Implying everybody isn't just going to die. Detective Comics becomes a Harper Row solo title within five issues.
Brandon Cox
Thank you
Eli Perez
Is Batman Rebirth worth buying or should i just pirate it. Just starting to get into DC ongoings.
Cooper Adams
Too late for Nrama, because CA has the lettered preview. I will post it together with the Nrama interview with Abnett later
Parker Thomas
You'll post it now.

I thought it was just that the characters are now aware of their lives before their reboot, but with none of the consequences. Or was I wrong?
Xavier Ward
It's not like Batman was in the book very much either. It was just a poorly named mess.
