So bitching about the ending aside, Gravity Falls did generate a lot of pretty great fan art.
Were artists drawn to this show because of its strengths, or its weaknesses, trying to fill a hole of what they weren't getting from the show?
GF resulted in a lot more fan art than plenty of more popular things. Why? When did the fan art start exploding for the show?

What was that Simpson's quote again? "So you want a down to earth show about down to earth, normal kids, filled to the brim with magic robots?" or something like that? That was a joke when it was written but Gravity Falls basically made it real, so in addition to wild popularity it also had something for pretty much any flavor of artistic type, who could draw normal scenes or fantasy action and it would all fit.
Brody Thompson
That actually makes a lot of sense. Very well said.
Thomas Collins
Where's that creepy picture of Mabel and Dipper in a boat show from above with a scary face in the water underneath them?
Aiden Evans
That's pretty much it. Every episode has a different "weirdness" feature that opens up to infinite possibilities.
