Why did they make the American guy seem so incompetent in this movie? American Exceptionalism, ever heard of it? He should have been a better fighter, and a MUCH better shooter, and the japs should have been relying on him. And then the gooks have the nerve to complain about racism against them in real life, when they so clearly racistly portrayed an Exceptional American as a buffoon. Damn, I'm mad.

It's supposed to be a subversion of the typical John Wayne action hero, by making the side-kick the real hero. It has nothing to do with racism, just a comedy making the archetypical hero an incompetent buffoon
