So what was supposed to be the bid deal with this movie? Everybody was hyping it up like crazy, and it seemed totally average, 8/10. Did I get meme'd?

It just had broad appeal. Sup Forums's generals were mostly incest fanfiction and shipping.

it's enjoyable but overrated.

YOU GOT MEMED

Well at least it contained itself as a shit hole.

I want to see the version of the script where she was a villain.

8/10 is great. Did you mean 6/10

>8/10 is great.

No it's not.

10/10 Great
9/10 Good
8/10 Okay
7/10 or lower - Absolute shit

Earworm song.

that's all, Disney keep milking it by plastering Elsa's face on everything, even dildos, toilets and potatores

heh

You are from Sup Forums right?

The same thing happened with zootopia. Mediocre Disney movies attract the worst kind of Sup Forums autism.

Bullshit, only chinks and some other asians care about zootopia

>he doesn't cry himself to sleep thinking about Elsa
Git gud

>Everybody
Who exactly is everybody?

>Git gud at watching a cartoon for six-year-olds

why does she wear so much makeup

It's a shame we'll never see this version. I think the original design looks way cooler.

remember when elsa got drunk

it was a product of its time

>totally average, 8/10
average is 5/10
which is what Frozen was

Don't be so harsh it was a solid 6/10

It was kind of a surprise hit. Disney changed the plot 6 months into working with the VAs and the whole thing was rushed as fuck and probably animated in a few months and it shows, but the resulting family feels and pain in the past storyline resonated with people around the world so hard that against expectations, the movie became a massive hit.

However, it's not as polished plotwise etc as tangled or zootopia are. It just touches some people with the themes of isolation and loneliness and struggling with family relationships and whatnot. Each of the 4 main characters are in a way damaged and lonely as fuck. But of course it doesn't resonate with everyone, in which case people are left scratching their heads, looking at the blatant animation and plot errors and wondering why the hell is the movie so popular.

It's Western animation, of course it's going to be average as fuck nigga.

This always happens when one skips over a popular cultural event then are underwhelmed when they finally visit it. The problem isn't with the movie being overhyped externally but internally, you'd built up this image in your head that the film *must* be sheer perfection to get all the attention you were seeing but the fans of the movie were never claiming such.

I really like the movie myself but I'd give it the same 8/10 score you did, its well-done but it has its not perfect.

Too many people confuse popularity with "overrated". Maybe we need a new word for the perception of something seemingly too widely-*popular* compared to its perceived value. Nobody calls the Transformers movies "overrated" because even fans know its shallow eyecandy, it still has wide appeal.

God damnit, this looks like a way more fun movie than the one we got.

>8/10 is an average rating
Are you IGN?

>8/10
>Average

If Disney do that, the amount of good frozen porn we seeing is shit.

>Cheerish Elsa

Lets hope Frozen 2 will fix that instead of Drama Queen Elsa

the musical aspect of it and also its main demographic is little girls so

The purple eyeshadow is the only remnant left of the villainous version. It was originally put there to make her look more evil, along with the spiky hair and such. Most of that stuff got removed when she was turned into a straight-up good girl character.

To get the male audience's Dicks hard as diamonds.

>males

Mainly was happyness that disney was back on track with musicals and caught up with other animation studios in terms of quality.

The Internet, more specifically ign ruined /10 ratings

>animation studios in terms of quality.

Animation in frozen is the most shittiest animation disney has ever done because its last minute changes.

But they make a right decision by turning Elsa from villain into misunderstood protagonist.

>But they make a right decision by turning Elsa from villain into misunderstood protagonist.

She was more interesting as a villain.

Well yes and no. Frozen has some amazing stuff, the landscapes and light are in some places excellent, the textures on main characters etc. And I think that some scenes, like where Anna and Kristoff meet Olaf, were already done for the previous storyline and so had more time on them and thus look gorgeous. Maybe some of the backgrounds were also already done for the previous plot and so had a lot of loving detail dedicated to them. And they really did nice work with the snow, as a nordic person it was pleasing to see snow act like snow instead of weird white fluff etc.

But at the same time, Frozen has some really, really sub-par animation in some places because the plot was changed so late. I think they spent as long animating the 7-minute Frozen Fever as they did Frozen proper

People dont want another boring disney princess movie where you get married at the end.

Nobody says you need to have that. Just that Elsa should have stayed as a villain. Whatshisface the Prince can also be a villain.

But then Elsa & Whatshisface the Prince is dead & anna married kristoff at the end.

Its boring.

Elsa doesn't need to die. You're jumping to conclusions. When Frozen was originally being written, Elsa's role was planned to be similar to Beast in Beauty and the Beast - an initially threatening character who does bad things, but who is redeemed at the end. Meanwhile Hans would have been a more subtle Gaston, a character who initially appears decent but is plotting against everybody the whole time.

I like this version because the "evil" Elsa has a bite to her, some flavor of her own, and what they ended up with is just a straightforward, uncomplicated good girl.

>Animation in frozen is the most shittiest animation disney has ever done
You can't be serious, right? I thought the animation was great considering they changed their mind from 2D to CGI pretty late. The snow, ice and water was done very well. Then again why should we listen to someone who thinks that the animation from Chicken Little and Meet the Robinsons is actually better.

Reminding everybody that the Let It Go song was written back when Elsa was still 100% villainous. "No right, no wrong, no rules for me, I'm free".

>they changed their mind from 2D to CGI pretty late.
No, not really? Unless if you count the original Snow Queen adaptation plans from the 1930s or so? But the current Frozen, once finally actually greenlit for production from development hell, was always planned to be 3D

But the animation in Frozen is really fucking bad in places. Some of the backgrounds are dreadful, the shadows are fucked up in a lot of the scenes, crowds are full of clones and so on. It was rushed as hell and it shows, it's a fact. Of course in some places it's okay, even great, and they did a good job of focusing the effort where people are looking so it does still look generally nice - but still, from a company like Disney you'd expect better attention to detail, better finishing etc. Frozen Fever for example already looked a lot better

Not animated but....

>Flat texture everywhere
>PS3 quality

Your medium end computer probably can render this in real time.

It went for a month or so at the cinemas with nobody giving a shit to it. Then winter breaks happened, and I think it had no real contenders during its holiday slot, then record-breaking snow storms happened which was used by the public for Frozen jokes, Let it Go being spammed in the radios, and you got the freak-of-nature success of Frozen. It was something truly odd, especially for such a mediocre movie, and such a success probably won't happen again in a long while.

That dress didnt look like it come from 1840s Norway.

more like 1500s

>Monthly reminder that Let it Go song was in top 100 song in 1 year straight.

>same thing
The only common thing between Zootopia and Frozen is that they both initially didn't get proper marketing. Zootopia, despite getting the 1B mark, is far from the shit storm that was Frozen at that time. A lot of people liked Zootopia, especially in Eastern Asia, but the whole thing is subdued and less crazy. The Frozen madness at that time was absolutely mental.

5/10 is correct. 6/10 if you're being generous.

People watched it for the song

This, I want to see the pre-rewrite scripts for Frozen and Brave.

The amount of Porn that make my dick dead every day.

>That Elsa & Anna kiss drawing by incase

This.

I need source on that

No, it wasn't. There's plenty of evidence to support this. It was supposed to be 2D but they decided to go with the easy route and make it 3D which was announced like exactly a year before release I think? And you have to remember that most animated films take around 3 years.

There were a few moments for me where the characters didn't look like they in the setting because the background looked out of place but that was only a few times. Do people really care about crowds and stop every frame to check if every person looked the same? But like you said it was rushed and the short was better which pretty much proves my point that they changed their mind pretty late.

I'm pretty sure they made the texture look flat because they tried to make look similar to 2D animation and it worked when the camera was still like in the room with all the paintings, but it didn't work with some parts.

What did they change in Brave?

8/10 is well above average.

5/10 would be considered average/medium.

Is this how people rank things now?

>I'm pretty sure they made the texture look flat because they tried to make look similar to 2D animation and it worked when the camera was still like in the room with all the paintings, but it didn't work with some parts.

Kek

texture look flat because they dont have the time to finish it user.

Yes. You can blame game reviewers.

Why have a _/10 system at all then? Why not _/4?
I use 5 tier for media
5 - See it multiple times in theaters and get the blu-ray and merch.
4 - Definitely worth seeing at least once in theater.
3 - Redbox or netflix.
2 - If it comes on tv and you've got nothing better to do it's a decent watch.
1 - Avoid at all costs. If you're with a group of friends and they decide to watch this movie, leave.

Dude you understand that all movies, even ones that are planned to be 3d from the start, have their visual development and concept art done in a 2D style, right? Like the concept art you posted proves nothing, it's the same with Tangled, same with Zootopia - there's concept art, background, character studies etc done in 2D style, but the movie itself was always planned to be in 3D.

Disney moved to 3D after Princess and the Frog. Wreck-it Ralph and Tangled were both done in 3D. I'm sorry but your impression is wrong.

What they did do quite late before release is rewrite the plot - Elsa was supposed to be a villain in the original, but after Let it Go got written Lee & Buck decided to scrap everything and rewrite the whole thing. But I've never heard of this "Frozen was supposed to be 2D thing". Can you dig up any sort of source to back up that claim?

>the short was better which pretty much proves my point that they changed their mind pretty late.
No, it just proves that they didn't have a lot of time to animate Frozen and spent about as long animating the 7-min Frozen Fever. It just means they changed the plot, it doesn't mean they planned to do the whole thing in 2D till then, what the fuck man

It had a totally different story involving Merrida running away and the kingdom falling apart as a result. She goes off to have some adventures on he r own but later realizes that she fucked up and needs to take responsibility.

And the whole thing was supposed to take place in winter.

All of that was dropped when the first director was fired and they tacked on the whole turning mom into a bear story. Which is why there is a huge storytelling change of pace about halfway through the movie.

This, they all were planned as 3DCG movies. Tangled was the only one that was altered slightly as they originally intended it to look like a "moving oil painting," but spent millions trying to develop the tools and techniques but it never worked right. Some of the stuff they were working on ended up getting used for Paperman.

But yeah, all 3DCG movies have their production art and whatnot drawn in 2D.

How was Brave before it was rewritten? I didn't even know it was rewritten, just that the female director was replaced. Just saw Brave again a couple of hours ago, and my god was it really weak. Such a shame since the music and scenery and VAs were really good.

There are tons of filmed 2D scenes for Wreck it Ralph from the production too. I thought they generally look better.

But 3D works better for the setting they chose.

Making her villain is not gonna make frozen worth a billion & another billion revenue on merchs user.

>Tangled was the only one that was altered slightly as they originally intended it to look like a "moving oil painting,

I still would have liked to have seen this. CGI is getting pretty stale with nearly everything looking like animated Barbie dolls walking around. Would be nice to see someone tackle a different art direction but keeping 3D in there.

>Dude you understand that all movies, even ones that are planned to be 3d from the start, have their visual development and concept art done in a 2D style, right?
This.

You are delusional if you think that Frozen was supposed to be 2D after seeing official 2D development/concept art. Concept art is always 2D. You should check out Tangled's beautiful Rembrandt art.

>I'm pretty sure they made the texture look flat because they tried to make look similar to 2D animation
Jesus, you don't know what you're talking about.

answered just before you

I thought the tangled animated series will be CGI looking like 2D?

>"moving oil painting,"
I just bought the Tangled art book. It still pains me that Tangled didn't get the oil painting effect in the end.

>I'm pretty sure they made the texture look flat because they tried to make look similar to 2D animation and it worked when the camera was still like in the room with all the paintings, but it didn't work with some parts.

Nah, it's pretty much down to having to reshoot almost the entire first half of the movie late into production and Disney was not going to let them push the release date up at all. So they left lots of flat textures so they have some better render times assuming no one would really notice.

That sounds better than the mom changing into a bear thing. Except the winter setting. I dig the setting in the final movie.

I really, really don't like the witch and the bear transformation in the final movie. Feeding a potential poisonous cake to her mother just made Merida really stupid and unlikable right from the start.

Kung Fu Panda also had top-tier 2D and 3D integration.

I heard it's just 2D. Still excited for it, either way.

>Too many people confuse popularity with "overrated"
That's because "over-rated" doesn't mean what you think it means.

"Over-Rated" means "I think other people like this show too much". It has nothing to do with bad quality. Indeed, only decent shows CAN be over-rated. Because if a show is just bad you would jut say so. Saying something is "over-rated" just mean the speaker couldn't find anything worse to say about it, and wanted to insult other people for daring to like something.

Ahh damn. It would have been amazing if they'd have developed the 3D techniques to the point where they could pull it off with a lovely 2D look.

But still, it's nice they're putting out 2D stuff, and with the original voice actors and everything

Lesbincest subtext and memes

Honestly nothing.

Girls were cute, so it achieved waifu status all over. Little girls loved the fuck out of it all over the country. And it'd been a while since Disney had just straight up said fuck diversity and dedicated a movie to two white girls and appealing to the widest possible demographic. And, not surprisingly, it worked. Diversity is a sick meme, but at the end of the day it isn't as profitable.

Overall though, movie was mediocre as fuck and not even in the top 10 of GOAT Disney films. If you're into animated waifus, watch it. If not, ignore it.

Yea I always thought the giving her mom poison instantly made her an unlikable douche that was totally in the wrong. And it made no sense in her getting out of marriage plan whatsoever.

I wanted to know what she was supposed to be doing in the original after running away. I've seen rumors and mentions of Merida being some kind of traveling do gooder that fought bandits and thugs. And the story of her kingdom falling apart sounded almost like some kid of curse happened, but I would have assumed the clans declared war on it since no marriage was happening.

Either way it sounds a lot better than what we got.

I know how the stages of animation works, user. I just going on what they said back when it was in pre-production. They obviously tried out some (but very few) 2D hand drawn tests just like they did with Tangled, Wreck it Ralph and Moana. youtu.be/PIQdpjzOUa0

>and with the original voice actors and everything
I was surprised Sheriff Callie is voiced by Mandy Moore. I'm glad she'll be back for the series.

Man, animated drawing is 50 times harder than animating 3d models.

This is why disney has ditched traditional 2d disney animations.

I thought that's also part of the process? Making hand drawn tests? That still doesn't mean they planned it to be 2D. Disney is going for 3D nowadays after PatF.

>totally average, 8/10.

>average
>8/10
Usually 8/10 implies it's quite good, falling just short of greatness.

I seriously doubt they would even bother doing tests without thinking the possibility of going with 2D in the first place.

You can't ust go straight to 3d

>no ambient occlusion
>no transfer maps
Wow. Just fucking wow. This is like basic animation and 3d modeling 101. Characters look fine but those environments are literally worse than a first semester student.

Yea but constructing, rigging, coloring, and texturing a character is one gigantic slow pain in the ass.

This.

All 3D movies still have 2D pencil tests to get all the staging down just right and to see how the scene works out before they bring in the 3D models and begin animating. It's just insanely faster with a pencil test and you get to see what the whole scene looks like within a day or two.

I hate how you talk like you know shit.

Here's the animator for Anna and Kristoff.
youtube.com/watch?v=CBPzC2scwOM
>Here's another Kristoff test done to the voice of a different actor. I was trying to push the squash and stretch in his face so the CG animators could see how much they could exaggerate.

Pencil tests are fucking important during the creative stage, even if it's a 3D movie. Please read up on it before spouting shit.
