It seems like fixing what isn't broken is all the rage these days. Are there any superheroes in their original iconic costumes anymore?

>implying removing the trunks wasn't a fix

>implying it was a fix

Wish they'd use Tomasi's design with the yellow belt. That shit really popped for me.

>Superman is such a shallow character people are more interested in his costume than the characterization

Aquaman mostly

blue boots is the opposite of a fix regardless of how you feel about the trunks

but they didn't remove the trunks, they just colored them blue

Thank God there's no synergy and he won't look like Gladiator extra.

Yeah it's rather telling how fixated people are on something like red trunks or blue fingerstripes

Why don't marvel heroes costume changes get this big a fuss over them?

The original costume is definitely the best, but this is so tame compared to the shit sandwich New 52 battle armor.

Honestly, if he had the red boots I'd be completely okay with this. DC seems dead set against the trunks ever coming back, so this is a solid compromise.

>costumes

We're not that invested in Marvel characters outside of the movie versions.

Except Spider-Man, people argue about which of his outfits is best all the time.

>Luthor gets red crotch on his Superman costume

Because Marvel is productslop and anyone who buys it doesn't care. DC requires a higher form of autism and thus people flip out if things aren't just so

The armor suit when drawn like fabric looked better than this one even with the collar. Blue boots is criminal.

it's also been what? 5 years no stop of bitching?
you would assume people would have accepted it or went "who cares, it's just a costume, my favourite character is more than that" but nope.

Only Marvel costume people care about is Spidey's

>breaking news: autistic man gets arrested for hazing a comic bookstore employee over "blue boots"

they literally had a perfectly fine costume and chose not to use it

shit makes no sense.

Are we sure, though? This pic was shown during the Rebirth event after all, strange for a rejected design.
Maybe we'll see it down the road.

I don't know about that, they showed other rejected designs too like New Super-Man's. Seems like the Gleason one is just trashed.

New Superman was clearly still in progress, since there were no cover or finalized design shown, his costume was unveiled only recently.
They showed Gleason's design right after Action Comics' cover, that strikes me as strange.

>Why don't marvel heroes costume changes get this big a fuss over them?

They should, honestly. Marvel's redesigns are just as bad.

Cap gets a shitty new costume every week though.

From another user in another thread...

His Hydra outfit sucks but fuck you Opena's Now design was superb!
Suck my dick simplcity fags!

>Why don't marvel heroes costume changes get this big a fuss over them?

except they do

That is so fucking busy, there is no sense in adding all those textures unless they are trying to do live action, and even then is nauseating

They're just whiney fags demanding muh back issues

It still bugs me that the boots and wrists don't have the same design, and the belt could use... something.

But its still better than the underoos look. Sorry, underwear-fags, they're gone and they ain't coming back.

What's Spidey look like currently? He tends to look pretty similar to his first appearance.

Why do people dislike the underwear?

Hal's GL costume has had very few tweaks from the 50s til now and with Rebirth they're getting rid of the shoulder lines the new 52 added

I don't know, some artists make it work, I think. It looks more alien now.

I don't think most people mind but some have pretended to hate it out of spite because the NOT MUH people have complained for so long

Because they hate the idea of Superman.

I don't dislike them, I just don't really care about them either way, and I still love Supes.
Plus, they don't remind people the old strongmen costumes anymore, it's a lost cultural reference that only serves as the butt of jokes, so it's risky.

They're still here in some panels

Also the seams and glowing parts of it and the v neck collar.

Dunno about the shoes pattern lee added.

Didnt mind the cuffs but this is perfect

>Because they hate the idea of Superman.
FUCK YOU!
Not wanting him to LOOK silly doesn't fucking equal disliking his character!

Has Hal ever had a bad costume?

I don't hate the underwear.
I just hate the underwear fanatics.

Superman will always look silly in costume.
Post ONE Superman costume that isn't silly as fuck.

Like said, it's kinda ridiculous now, that's why they got rid of it like Batman or Hal.

I like this one. Doesn't fit Superman too well, though, the colors of his normal outfit make him look more friendly.

>What's Spidey look like currently?

It's more or less the same, just teched out.

The eyes and the logo glow.

There's nothing wrong with the Rebirth costume, its close as can be without shrunks or yellow belt or the red boots.

MOS/BVS above all else look fucking superb and badass.

I could live without the undies but the lack of red boots is disgusting.

>Not wanting him to LOOK silly doesn't fucking equal disliking his character!

But superheroes ARE silly. It's in their DNA. At the end of the day Batman is still a guy that drives a car shaped like a bat.

...

New 52 when given good rendering...

>implying MoS/BvS Supes doesn't have one of the silliest Supes costumes

...

>But superheroes ARE silly
I don't give a mother fuck.
looking less realistic doesn't equal or require silly.
Pic related for example isn't silly its badass!

It is weird how there's this blindness to the inherent whimsy in superheroes these days.

These characters were originally created and marketed towards kids. How seriously can you take them, really?

Didn't happen often, but when it did...

No its a fucking light year from silly. Its perfectly organic to the sci-fi they already set up in that universe and isn't cringy when you see him among normally dressed people.

I think it works in context. If you assume it's a Queen Victoria situation, it conveys his humanity just as well as the classic costume did.

So like this one?

The best.

That's a fucking terrible "costume". He looks like he threw random Batman shit on over some normal clothes.

>Didn't happen often
Eh, Reis, Rocafort, Jae Lee, Jim Lee, Fabok did good renderings on it most of the time.
Janin & Jrjr did the worst versions mostly. Janin mainly dew just to coloring being too bright.

I loved that arc

...

>So like this one?
Here. Use this instead in the future.

>isn't cringy when you see him among normally dressed people.
Neither are most Superman costumes.
But they're still fucking silly, and if you think the MoS costume isn't just as silly as the rest you're insane.

No it just look like a Batsuit made of believable material.

this should be the main costume

Superman Beyond, comic version, suit is fucking perfect

Then a batsuit made of believable material looks like shit.

I agree OP why would they ever change this!?

>isn't cringy when you see him among normally dressed people.
>Neither are most Superman costumes.
Reeves sure as fuck was.

>and if you think the MoS costume isn't just as silly as the rest you're insane.
No its not, the texture and darker colors are immeasurably more immerse and fit its universe more then any other suit does.
Reeves world was silly but Clark's outfit still stuck out like a sore thumb.

What exactly do you prefer?

It DOES look silly, he looks like he's in an alien onesie with a cape.

I'd prefer people to not sacrifice something looking good for realism.

>big part of iconic character's appeal is his iconic costume
>surprised when people get mad that it got changed for the sake of being "cool" and "modern"

although really, theres no reason people should be upset. they will inevitably revert back to the iconic costume in due time. maybe by 2020, we'll be back to classic superman.

Some grey, blue, and yellow

>implying anything will ever compare to the defenitive Batman
>both in costume and characterization

This. I love this costume right here.

Nope, they've all been great

I actually prefer the idea of Superman's costume being Kryptonian as opposed to his mom making it for him.

The "S" logo improved over time but I never got his cape stayed on

The only flaw here is the S.

beyond costume is great, though only within the context and setting of the Beyond era, where Superman has started aging and everyone he's cared about has either gotten old or died, and being Clark Kent has become unviable

Most common versions are attached inside the collar (like sewn into the seam and folds out), attached on the shoulders, or attached to the shield (this one is shit tier imo)

Whether it's sewn or somehow detachable depends on how they want to use it, but it's not really complicated.

>the colors of his normal outfit make him look more friendly.

Yeah I think the full breakdown on the costume is
> Bright colors to appear friendly
> trunks and boots of a strong man to invoke strength
> cape for majesty and movement
> shield for authority

They've done something fuckity with the web lines. I can't quite put my finger on it... like they've got momentum in a certain direction or something? I dunno what it is, just that I'm no fan.

I know what you mean, I really like it on this variant.

>It DOES look silly, he looks like he's in an alien onesie with a cape.
That isn't inherently silly if the sci-fi is played straight and isn't bright and garish.

Yeah but it should be silly. Superhero's should never completely be devoid of the whimsy.

I actually like the change of boot lines, but spider-logo is fugly

Capes are ridiculous, we should get rid of it. Same for the red boots.

Onesie with cape IS inherently silly no matter what.

It's basically just the movie costume with a different belt. Which is why it's gorgeous.

Fuck off you selfish cocksucker there are fuck tons of comic fans that don't have your personal preferences. You got your 70 years with your outfit now its our turn for a handful!

what if you think of it as a jumpsuit with a cape instead of a onesie?

Slightly less silly but still silly because it has a cape.

I felt that one was shit lad

As long as the underwear doesn't come back, I'm fine with it.
I prefer red boots though, and a yellow belt.

sooner or later, it'll be back, because that's what Superman looks like.
