What other shows are feminist-approven?

What "kind" is that? I look at this and all I see is a shitty cartoon that relates to todays trends in an attempt to be hip, like every generation has

Jessica Jones

I've seen people on here saying things like "Steven Universe is the first show CN made that is structured like this" or "Steven Universe is the first time CN dealt with a plot heavy show"

Why do people act like they wouldn't cum inside Pearl's nose?

...

Legend of Korra?

It's the only show I know of with plenty of mystery that gets slowly uncovered as the plot chugs along.
When it starts you don't even know gems are aliens.
Then you don't know why they are here.
Then it's revealed what their society looks like.
Then you get to see their leader etc.

The runtime of the whole show is longer than the Star Wars original trilogy at this point, and we STILL don't know why the main character even exists/why Rose Quartz sacrificed herself.

Tell me of another show that keeps you in the dark as much as this one, if you know of it. I'm genuinely interested in this way of telling stories.

its the first of its kind that has all the elements in it and the 1st that many people see those elements

>Tell me of another show that keeps you in the dark as much as this one, if you know of it. I'm genuinely interested in this way of telling stories.
People are going to tell you "Gravity Falls" but most of the "mysteries" weren't even touched on and there was pretty much nothing interesting after finding out who the book author was.

You're not going to get a "skeleton key" situation in Steven Universe.

You mean there are OTHER lesbian space rock shows out there?

Why would comparing it to the run time of a movie mean anything?

Thats only 17 episodes. And SU's format involves a fair amount of filler.

youtube.com/watch?v=m6G_o1MYECg

Literally name one other show about a half-human half-gem magical boy with a trio of hot alien caretakers, one of whom is actually two smaller aliens

Yes, Gravity Falls was a bit of a disappointment for me.

>"What are all of these weird things?"
The answer is literally: Anomalies. The weird things are weird things.

>What's the main villain's mysterious plan?
His plan is to be villainous. He comes, and then he acts evil. His motivation is that he is evil and likes suffering.

>What is the deal with the lost twin brother?
He has brotherly feelings towards his twin, because he's a twin brother.
Also he was lost for a long time in UNSPECIFIED PLACE doing UNSPECIFIED THINGS. The lost brother's deal is that he was lost and that he is, deep down, still Stan's brother.

Avatar.
RWBY.
Not a show, but the first (good) half of Homestuck.

because sjws didnt actually watch old cartoons, they just like to say they did

The concept of fusion was pretty half ass in the original dbz, it's nice to see a show take a Cool concept and show its full potential. Also western animation hasnt built up a story like this before

The Secret Saturdays

>western animation hasnt built up a story like this before

t. Someone born in 1998

SU doesn't actually have that much filler, though. Most of the Beach City stuff contributes to Steven's character development.

This. Sadie's Song was building up to him becoming trans

I dunno, a fair amount of the episodes I watched seemed pretty fillerish. They may have sprinkled in a tiny amount of "lore" here and there just to make it worth it. Remove those parts and Its just like watching adventure time.

If you haven't watched every episode up to this point, you cannot say what is and isn't filler.
That's just facts.

Are you not posting examples because you're lying or rather because you're slow and don't fully understand how conversation works?

k

Seriously though Sadie's Song was about how Steven's optimism can unintentionally turn into selfishly going too far which is something Steven has done before.

Why does reading this thread remind me of MLP threads.

Because both fans like to make the same argument that their shows are one of a kind.

Jesus Sup Forums, why can't I just like a show/thread

No I'm just astonished your knowledge of western animation stops on Post-90s CN

Because you dont like it, you obsess over it.

Nobody is saying he you can't you dumb fuck

I don't like Steven Universe. The artstyle just turns me off. I was all prepared to live and let live, but Steven Universe's fanbase is seriously a cancer on par with My Little Brony and Homestuck

Usually when your fanbase is that fucking shit, there's something disingenious going on with the writing of your show

Either you go for cheap melodrama, or you "signal" to internet weirdos that you support their bullshit. In any case, nothing would make me happier than to see the show's cancellation. Less ugly fat fucks crying, more Voltron

>I don't know anything but I saw some people on the internet who pissed me off and now it's personal. More shows from my childhood!!!

This is such a retarded and biased analysis when you put it in the exact same breath praising SU for its "mystery" though. Everything you said can be bent to still be strongly rooted in truth just the same.

To be honest I barely even understand what "mystery" you're talking about. This is an extremely normal groundwork for plots that reveal more as the story goes on.

If this is your standard for a good story then I'd hate to see you embarrass yourself saying RWBY or Kingdom Hearts have good storytelling.

Action cartoons have been dead since those DC Nation shows were cancelled, and SU is the closest thing to an action cartoon with an overarching story that is currently airing.

>This is such a retarded and biased analysis
Nothing he said was wrong. The weird stuff is literally called "weird stuff" that's from the weird dimension. The villain's origin is, "I came from a flat dimension and uh uh uh I destroyed it" and his motivation is just that he wants to do whatever he wants which is ~EVIL~.

I know none of these are currently airing, but Miraculous Ladybug finished its first season real recently, Wakfu is still ongoing, and we have the Dofus movie subs to look forward to. Dofus I know isn't really action but the trailers seem to imply there would be a fair amount for hte movie.

>If this is your standard for a good story then I'd hate to see you embarrass yourself saying RWBY or Kingdom Hearts have good storytelling.

Kingdom Hearts does have good storytelling

>Nothing he said was wrong

Yeah it's almost as if I said exactly the same thing in the second sentence of the post, Sherlock.

>The runtime of the whole show is longer than the Star Wars original trilogy at this point, and we STILL don't know why the main character even exists/why Rose Quartz sacrificed herself.

So it has a bunch of filler.

>Tell me of another show that keeps you in the dark as much as this one, if you know of it. I'm genuinely interested in this way of telling stories.

Lost.

Why watch shit just because it's the closest thing currently airing when you can watch pretty much anything that has ever been aired thanks to the internet

I don't like x. x upsets me. Also, x is popular on y, so there's that.

Because we're young.

If your reasoning is exactly because of "they add more to the plot as they go along" then let me be the first to stop you and call you an immense retard.

Judging executive quality entirely after conceptual quality while hoping to have their opinion taken seriously is something only a biased idiot would do, and I hope for your sake you aren't being serious within that perspective.

Otherwise I'm interested in your reasoning.

No it ain't that the plot is big and sprawling.

It's just that the fundamentals of the story works. Kingdom Hearts is a fusion of Disney and Square Enix. The bad guys having this absurd complicated 1000 year plan, and every time they get their shit pushed in by that old Disney goodness.

It makes for a satisfying experience. And characters like Aqua and Roxas are legitimately interesting tragic figures.

Mysteries don't have to be these deep things with complex deep stories with dark twists

Why does Sup Forums have a massive hateboner for SU?

We don't

>A mystery doesn't have to be a mystery
The whole fucking point of a mystery is the story and twists.

Because the fans are fucking annoying. I like SU but avoid the threads here like a plague. The general is terrible just like all other generals too.

Something being "unexplainable" and "chaotic for no reason" is the literal fucking definition of a mystery.

The tiny horses taught us a harsh lesson.

I dont frequent Sup Forums, but I like SU alright and appreciate it for what it is. I just dont think its the best damn cartoon in the world and I dont really dig the SJW vibe i get from it.

There is a difference between mystery as a genre and the actual fucking word

IT'S JUST DRAGONBALL
IT'S JUST A SHITTY WESTERN VERSION OF DRAGONBALL WITH FEMINISM INSTEAD OF THE MONKEY KING MYTH

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

That's not mysterious that's just inexplicable, it has no reason to it.

Mysteries have reasons, they're supposed to be like puzzles, things are initially shadowy and then it all comes to light. But with Gravity Falls the reason shit is weird is because they come from weird dimension. That's weak as shit.

Now you might say, it's okay, it's technically a mystery, because you didn't know they came from weird dimension at first. Yeah that's an entity you can call a mystery. But for a mystery STORY which Gravity Falls consistently advertised itself as, it's pretty fucking lame.

The only mystery was the author's identity. But even that got completely tossed aside as unimportant.
Rushed ending is written all over the second season. It Twin Peaks'd itself.

>The bad guys having this absurd complicated 1000 year plan, and every time they get their shit pushed in by that old Disney goodness.

This is viewing the series' storytelling as positive through an extremely altered lens. Not only does it miss out on HOW that story is told (telling a part of the story is not judging its presentation), but "old Disney goodness" triumphing over evil is an ambiguous compliment to give. "Good vs Evil" has existed forever in the cheesiest ways, and Disney has never even been close to sticking to one certain brand of it; even if the best example may be "colorful and teeming with soul."

Its storytelling isn't good because the way they go about it is a convoluted mess. And I'm not saying that simply because the lore/story is filled with mountainous quantity of detail. Just about every game they manage to either retcon establishment, or fail to bridge events properly. And that's not even the most criminal issue, considering it does an awful, basically nonexistent job of proper foreshadowing despite heaps of new plot elements introduced every title. Even the way events are chained isn't never haphazardly sudden. KH's writing is mostly plot driven, yet making all these fundamental errors which affect a majority of its own establishment is basically a hallmark of insufficient quality.

Even considering it's inevitably gonna sound like a fanfiction, there's a fine line crossing from "fanfiction" to "unnecessarily complex mess of a setting." Its storytelling does its job, but with a largely significant price it doesn't have to be inclined to suffer. At best it's tolerable because of the fact it's a big budget game series with positive attributes going for almost anything that isn't its literary merit.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy it, and it's one of those stories you gotta turn off your brain for. Still, it makes too many mistakes and goes overboard to earnestly be placed in the realm of "good", in spite of any relativity.

While I dont think SU is the first of its kind, I do enjoy the comfy/relaxed atmosphere of the slower parts of the show. Also the music isnt half bad.

Voltron would exist regardless of what was playing on CN. Plus CN or any other channel wouldn't take the risk on a show like Voltron.

In summation, you don't know what the fuck you're talking about. Go to bed.

people respect the show because authenticity in a show's voice and tone are to be respected. everyone knows that coming-of-age stories are well-trod material, but SU feels like it comes from a position of positivity and honesty. it makes a huge difference.

You've learned nothing except how to bitch. Get some perspective.

>yfw Sadie's Song was a metaphor for Rose's war

That may be, but how else am I supposed to make Pearl real?

>recommending RWBY
>ever

Really nigga? That shit is actually embarrassing to look at.

Avatar is good but not really a mystery. Most of the major plot points are revealed immediately, it's how the characters go about resolving them that takes up most of the story. The series does have good worldbuilding, though.

>Steven Universe's fanbase is seriously a cancer on par with My Little Brony

I hate newfags who don't actually remember the days when bronies were a plague upon this board. SUtards do not force their waifus into every discussion out of principle or shit up unrelated threads with gem porn. Nor do they constantly post new threads about the most insignificant stupid fetishy shit. In fact, they tend to stay contained entirely within their general when it's here, and I rarely see SU threads up when it's not.

Rebecca is a Sup Forumsmrade who hit the big time. If I don't have faith in people like her, what hope do I have of making something of myself?

I dont know, there probably some cosplayers out there.

Who said to not have faith in/look up to people? The hope in making something of yourself relies on yourself and hard work, not other peoples deeds.

I don't know what you're personally trying to accomplish in life, but you will often be shitty at something before you're good. Try to remember that when shit gets overbearing.

>Dragonball
top fucking kek
SU did not start out as a parody of what it's doing and then started taking itself too seriously turning into a bloated piece of trash aka Z and beyond.

I'd love Lost too if it had actual explanations.

>RWBY
NAH NIGGA, NAH

Starting the plot three seasons deep is not the same as uncovering mysteries.

Why couldn't Dragonball Z be as good, user? It hurts

it tried to "grow up", which is a huge mistake if your initial premise was essentially a minor with superpowers fighting dorky nazis. ...In a way the same mistake Pokemon made. But worse.

You say that like Toriyama had a choice. Shonen Jump editors are fucking cunts.

>don't why the main character even exists/why Rose Quartz sacrificed herself
Watch Lion 3 again, user. She says she wants to be human. That aside I see your bigger point and I would agree.

k

Even JJ's show runner said they weren't aiming to make a feminist show, and the Jones wouldn't have been one.

I appreciate Z for expanding the series, and I wouldn't want the show without that.

I dont get this meme. Theres plenty of other shows that have more fat characters than SU of which it only has like 3-4. Why does it get so much slack for it, despite Gravity Falls having like 8 fat characters?

Criticize and praise the show all you want Sup Forums. Your praise is autistic and your criticism is based in your praise. Nothing is more obnoxious than a nonstop general except for people who are mad because others like a thing.

Steven Universe is a show about a boy learning to control his magical powers and accept responsibilities he never asked for. It's like conventions 101 if that's all you say to describe it. It's not some sjw boogie man jesus Christ. The creators are just really into magical girl harem animes and shit, the femininity of the characters is based way more.heavily in that than any girl power that threatens your fragile bubble.

And it doesn't have to be original to be good. It is good at getting you invested in the emotions of the characters and its serialization allows them.to grow and change.

Of course it's popular with Tumblr. It's popular with Sup Forums. Websites aren't hive minds you fucking babies. Some asshat posting guro on Sup Forums doesn't represent you just as much as some shitlord misandrist posting on tumblr doesn't represent tumblr. Popular things are going to be popular, period. Nobody is trying to fucking pander to anyone.

I'm still trying to figure out why people react like idiots about it on both sides

it's either >omg so progressive
or >literally tumblr

it's like the people who spout this shit don't like cartoons, but want to fit in with people who have the same political agenda

New Pasta

I agree
pls

Steven Universe might still have bad storytelling when it reveals its curently unsolved mysteries, but Gravity Falls is over and there's no redeeming it. It was unsatisfying and filled with copouts everywhere you look because Hirsch bailed.

epic meme masters

Adventure Time is a show about a boy and his dog adventuring turned and fighting evil monsters. It's like conventions 101 if that's all you say to describe it. It's not some shitty rushed series Jesus Christ. The creators are just really into making Finn miserable and Bubbline and shit. pls tell me marci pulled his hand to her boob

Adventure Time is a show about a boy and his dog adventuring turned and fighting evil monsters

not any more

nah man, I can only judge the outcome, I won't judge the maker if I know nothing.
I can relate to that, but Z was just not playing in the same league.

no

>I disagree so your opinion is a meme
Kids these days.

nice joke the only only reason you hate it is because you saw a cherry picked webm and want the cool kids to like you and now you hate it too

MLP was for a while. Even Sarkeesian was a fan, then the Brony Frienzonies got stronger and soon MLP became "that show."
Also as someone who hates SJW shit, I don't hate SU. In a network full of shitty badly animated CalArts clones, it's a well slice of life/animated action show so I can't really hate it.

What the hell is a RWBY?

I thought this was a bait thread for SU

>Doesn't even pick up the intended irony.
Good lord, son.

Regardless, no. RWBY's writing is awful. Sub-Bleach tier, even. It takes a ridiculously long time to establish a meaningful content and the characters are so shallow it's sad.

Weeaboo cartoon made by Roostertooth. Guy heading it died of cancer or something similar. Not worth watching.
