they could stop bill with a time wish

It had one good mystery, everything other than the author was just weird unexplainable shit. That isn't too bad, but I was hoping for more.

no real conseques. Stan shouldnt of come back, the ending shouldnt of been that PREFECT. Have some bad writers damn.

Well, I think that was more an executive mandate then a creative choice, but do believe if you can't kill off a character, you shouldn't kill off a character.
I geuss ultimately the writers could have fixed it, but its not their fault. plus, we don't know if anyone had asked the executives if they could do that before finalizing the finale, or if the executives flip-flopped after some focus testing.

The complete lack of weight and urgency in tense moments. You have the fucking apocalypse going on and there are characters still cracking jokes and one liners.

The finale didn't involve Giffany, Stan's copy machine and Dipper never got to use a the President's key after "Irrational Treasure".

the ending's insta-cop-out (could have worked with the right pace), and romance episodes (except the soos one, that one was great)

>shouldnt of

>Mabel got shit around s2 became more selfish/hypocritical/entitled
>mysteries got boring around s2
>they pulled a HUGE cop out with Stan getting his memory back. I was really hoping Alex would have the balls to do it but NOPE. Ended like every cartoon does, happily ever after. Fuck that shit.
>bill was NEVER totally explained, also the reason why Stan was in the portal. There was so much fucking potential for this show that was wasted.

Also Alex is fucking annoying as a human being.
>WOAHHH TWEETED A PHOTO GIVING TRUMPS NAME ON HOLLYWOOD THE FINGER, LOOK AT HOW LIBERAL I AM GUYS

>Gyffani

Waifufags have their opinion automatically discarted.

Mabel being able to get away with too much shit.

>if any

shit man the whole series is like gravity flaws

Wish there was a heavier shift towards comedy or something serious, because I feel like it gets mediocre when it tries to shoehorn both.

Soos never contributed to something solemn except for that one flashback episode he had.

I was expecting X-Files light but got a standard Disney cartoon instead.

Mable became increasingly insufferable.

Stanford didn't get enough development and what little he did get came at the cost of Stanly's character.

Too many people waifued Wendy who is a boring 2-dimensional shit.

Bill was an uninteresting villain and was basically Claptrap with more confidence personality wise.

World building and lore were honestly REALLY overrated, the the former feeling cobbled together randomly (wierd shit happens... BECAUSE!) while the latter came in the form of regular info dumps.

Art style was average at best (fucking fishbowl eyes and stick limbs), regardless of the nice colors on backgrounds.

Overall S1 was good, S2 was hit and miss, finally was pretty shit (T-Rex arm and Stanly's implied sacrifice were the only parts I genuinely liked).

Overall 7/10, needed more Gideon.

Do you really need to ask?

I believe that the Stan thing was due to Disney executives.

I saw somewhere that if alowed, Hirch would have used the type of things that happens on Rick&Morty on the show, not going for a edgefest, but at least being able to show some things that Disney would mever allow.

Isso don't care for why he says and which kind of people he is when is not working. Caring about it is a tumblr thing, his works should stand by its own merits and not be compared to his personal life to be considered good or bad. I even say this as someone who will vote from Trump.

I think that his only fault at the end, was giving up on doing a third season - and Disney wanted to give him one more. He got tired of fighting the executives to do what he wanted, and he also was crazy in DOING A SHIT TON ON JOBS at the same time on the production. He probably was tired of it, which is a common mistake for a young animator in charge of a big production that, unlike Gendy or Graig Mckraken, know how to divide the production.

I still fund unfair the way that Sup Forums treat him tho, he still delivered a season and a half of one of the best cartoons on the last years.

Season 2's second half needed more Pacifica, since she was an amazing breakthrough Western Animation needed for some time with the obnoxious rich bitch stereotype.

I hear that Leni and Lori Loud have already surpassed her, though, but Pacifica deserved a whole lot better in Season 2, honestly speaking.

>I think that his only fault at the end, was giving up on doing a third season

It probably doesn't help that, from the sounds of it, Hirsch was pretty indecisive when making the decision to end the show that Disney was still waiting for an answer in regards to season 3 when season 2 was nearly halfway over. Which kind of explains why the second half of season 2 feels so rushed, especially with some of its info dumps.

On the one hand I can't say I blame him since this was a rather ambitious project from someone's first show on top of all the extra work he put on himself. And despite having an extremely flawed finale and hit-and-miss second season, it was overall a pretty good show.

But on the other it's hard not to notice that most of the pacing issues seem to have stemmed from Hirsch being a wishy-washy faggot who couldn't commit to a plan.

season 2

Needed one more season.

And also more fanservice for gay chubby chasers, too bad it took the finale to make Stan a hunkle for me

Mabel was apparently a good character? I was waiting for her to get some sort of comeuppance or learn a lesson about how awful she is, but I came to realise that she was supposed to be likeable.

Also the entire of season 2b was garbage

>For all the shit she did and was at fault for, no one ever called her on her shit.

GF's biggest fuck up.

>tfw no one ever even mentioned the whole Mabel destroying the world thing that happened

No quality Stan porn.

Season 2B lack the power that season 1 and season 2A had.

A third season could really really help.

True indisputable best ship never happened.

2A was by far the best part of the series. 1 had too much crush plot bullshit.

...

...

Stan has some decent fanservice in the show if that counts

Everything with Mabel near the end was garbage. She wasn't right, and she will never be right. She was just selfish.

dude that was legit the best part of the finale. they turned the mystery shack into a fucking gundam. complete with a t-rex for an arm. all I can say to you is pic related.

tumblr nose.

I think he's beyond time baby's control, considering he killed him. Yeah, Bill needed a physical form to effect him, but I think Bill's metaphysical form was beyond Time Baby's power to effect or he would have done something sooner.

>"Lots of weird stuff is going on, it's almost like monsters live in these woods."
>"They do."
>"...Oh ...okay then."

i kind of agree with him

>a clunky, CGI shit fight that looks like it was taking place in somewhere rendered in the original Doom game engine.
>yo gabba gabbas didnt do anything interesting
>"OW MY EYE JUST YOU WAIT UNTIL IT GROWS BACK LIKE TIEN'S ARM IN THE FUNIMATION DUB"
>ultimately just ended up being a time waster

there were other ways to show the townspeople and side characters being competent than having the manlet make another tired anime reference.

Mabel never paid for her crimes against humanity.

It should have ended with everyone finding out what she had done and shunning her forever. Then, Bill goes back to his dimension and takes Mabel with him as a sex slave for all eternity as punishment.

>Fixing Stan's memory BECAUSE DISNEY

not even that one of him fucking the Chuck E Cheese's animatronic animal?

the only flaw I really have is that Mable gets away with too much, and Dipper gets away with nothing.

guess what, the manlet's avatar Dipper was a worse character.

at no point was he written as a believable twelve year old, unlike Mabel

he was constantly apologizing instead of asking real questions. i mean why didnt he just go to grunkle stan and fucking ASK what the deal was with the author? why didnt grunkle stan (or anyone else in the pines family for that matter) just mention that he had a twin brother? god it was such a poorly written mess.

i hope alex fucking kills himself when trump gets elected. i mean it.

Except he said both he and his twin were Mabels.

Because Stan was a criminal that run away and was in prison on South America, and is ALSO the guy responsable for ruining the chances of the family be rich and his brother going to College.

He is a pretty fucking big black sleep, and I can see a guy like Stan's dad never talking much about him for his other son. He is just the guy that run away.

>why didnt grunkle stan (or anyone else in the pines family for that matter) just mention that he had a twin brother?

Because that would kind of blow the lid off him pretending to be his brother.

Also, Dipper didn't show it for him until the finale because he followed the rule of not belieaving or trusting anyone, that was written on the journal.

This is show as a giant, and the most obvious, flaw of Ford. Actually the entire thing of Mabel giving the rift to Bill would have been avoided if he had said such important information to his family. But he always think that he is special and must face things alone.

Also, the rest foi the family has NO IDEA of where Stan really is. They only know where Ford live.

Also, didn't Stan faked his death or something?

Yeah he faked his death presumably so nobody would ever think that Ford might not be Ford.

did the hacklet ever bring up stan's """"""criminal"""" past other than some poorly written edgy jokes?

no one in town even knew what grunkle ford looked like, aside from maybe wendy's retarded dad or the crazy old guy, so why even bother to keep his identity a secret? if everyone was supposed to think he was ford, why didnt his own niece and nephew tell their kids? why didnt anyone in the family seem to know about them being twins or just at least fucking casually mention it?

alex LITERALLY let reddit write the last season of his show because he was so lazy he just went off all the crazy theories they were coming up and inserted a padippica episode in at the least minute because muh tsundere and they were being triggered by wendip's whooping four year age difference (by the way, loud house showed a six year age difference couple no problem, so fuck you alex). watch the flashbacks in the first seasons and they make no sense in conjunction to the story that A tale of Two Manlets gave us

Butthurt Wendipfag detected.

Just can't deal with Best Ship stealing Slutty McRedhead's thunder.

im not even a pacifica hater, but the episode was just a reddit AMA getting its wish. pacifica still ended up getting a worse treatment in the finale than any other character including that spoiled murderous fat kid, because alex ultimately cared more about taking another swipe at rich people for some reason than the modicum of character progression he had been giving her over the course of season 2. that's how much of a hack he was, pacifica got a bad end and all the mediocre pedobatoz art in the world won't change that.

You are a retarded shipper. Your opinion doesn't matter and is biased.

The criminal past was brought up a bunch of times.
Stan went off the family radar at a really young age and Ford fucked off to the woods, before Shermie was old enough to know to know them. I doubt Stan's dad ever talked about his son that he kicked out and Ford wasn't the type to communicate with the family much. I highly doubt that Dipper's parents knew that Ford had a twin and any interaction they had with 'Ford' was probably with Stan, Stan being at the twins birth and all.

Stan needed to pretend to be Ford because he was homeless and all the deeds to the house were in Ford's name. He needed to keep the house to keep ahold of the portal to get Ford back.

Not every huge fight scene is an anime reference. Big robots and giant monsters existed as concepts long before anime.

as stanford's surviving closest of kin, wouldnt the shack just go to stanley anyway?

and why wouldnt the stan twins mother mention them? i know the dad is supposed to be alex's SCREW YOU DAD the character, but they never really showed that the mother hated stanly.

either way, stan knew that dipper was trying to figure out the journals early on in season 2, and he kept a whole fucking room full of evidence about their identity. he could've easily just told him at any point instead of letting dipper constantly put himself and his sister in danger because MUH JOURNALS

they still havent explained why the age difference between shermie, mabel/dipper's parents, and mabel and dipper, is so impossibly small

Alex being a hack.

He's basically George Lucas, he spits out creative idea but without a support team to refine them they come out a mess. Hence how the best episode's are ones he has nothing to do with.

>as stanford's surviving closest of kin, wouldnt the shack just go to stanley anyway?

If he'd paid for it upfront or finished paying his mortgage, then possibly. I don't think it works quite like that. Also would mean saying that Stanford was dead either admitting about the portal and having that shit shut down immediately ruining any chance of getting Ford back or not being able to prove he was 'dead' at all because there was no body.

Also perhaps the mother might have said about Stan to Shermie but by the time Shermie would have been old enough she would have been telling him about his 'dead' brother.

Even if the family knew about Stan, Stan was considered long dead and long dead great uncles who you never knew don't really come up in conversation much.

Stan was a bit of a shit about letting Dipper and Mabel get into danger but he didn't tell them because he was a paranoid old man who couldn't risk the secret of the portal getting out or it would have ruined his chances of getting Ford back. He's not just about to go blabbing his deepest secrets to some 12 year olds he barely knew because 12 year olds don't keep secrets.

>season 1 gideonbot
>season 2 shacktron
>both finale required giant robot to become big as possible
That's when I noticed the lack of creativity in the finale. Combining with a cheap laughs before fighting that ruined the tension, and rock version of theme playing in the background that I thought kinda retarded.

this kind of thing exists

pixiv.net/member_illust.php?mode=manga&illust_id=57393065

its more about "why are dipper and mabel's parents sending them to this creepy old great uncle that lives innawoods for 30 years without any prior knowledge of his background or intentions?"

assuming the parents knew of stanford through shermie, who knew through his own parents, they'd call stanford an honest genius. pretty much the exact opposite of the stan we meet, an absent minded shyster.

Because Stan kept up the Ford act in front of their parents, they thought he was responsible and educated. The parents did know him that was why he was at the twins birth. It was shown that he was lying to them over the phonecalls.

So why didn't the twins immediately realize Stan isn't acting like the genius scientist their parents think he is?

Because the twins didn't know him as well as their parents did. We don't know what the parents said to Dipper and Mabel they might have just said 'yeah we're putting you in the care of your uncle for a few months so you can get some fresh air and we can get some peace and quiet.'

DABID
WHAT IF
INSTEAD OF SPENDING TIME WRAPPING UP LOOSE ENDS
WE MAKE AN ENTIRE EPISODE TAKE PLACE IN MABEL'S VERSION OF IMAGINATION LAND
AND
AND
WE CAN EVEN BRING IN JON STEWART
THE KIDS WILL LOVE HIM
IT WILL BE ABSOLUTELY IBBEN

Why would the house go to Stan? Ford was pretty young to have had a will at that point, and even if he did he was still pissed at Stan. Even if he did, there was still the issue of Ford's mortgage and the fact that he's a wanted criminal in most states. Stan would be arrested before he could ever claim the house legally.

As for their mother not mentioning him, she was likely long dead by the time Dipper and Mabel were born, and both Stans were out of the house by the time Shermie would've been old enough to meet Stan well after Ford fell through the portal and his parents probably didn't talk about either much between Stan being kicked out and Ford becoming a complete shut-in, so he likely wouldn't have much of a frame of reference to compare the two.

Plus the Shermie and Dipper and Mabel's parents probably wouldn't want to mention anything about Stan having a twin considering they never met him and, from their perspective, Stan died in a car crash and wouldn't want the twins bothering Stan about having a dead twin if since that would probably be a sore spot.

>"why are dipper and mabel's parents sending them to this creepy old great uncle that lives innawoods for 30 years without any prior knowledge of his background or intentions?"

I think in the game there's a bit where Stan talks about going with Grandpa Shermie to the hospital the day Dipper and Mabel were born, which seems to indicate that Stan was close to him and Dipper and Mabel's parents. Odds are Stan just didn't visit as often before the show started and therefore the twins didn't know him that well.

Most of Gravity Falls's problems come from the fact that a lot of the story was crammed into Season 2B.

This all happened in Season 2B
>Author was introduced
>Dipper and Mabel "growing farther apart" (they didn't feel like they got that far apart though)
>Ford and Dippy
>Stan and Ford conflict
>The Rift being introduced
>Dipper and Ford not trusting anyone leading to ironic fate
>Bill trying to find his way to the real world
>Blendin being possessed at some point between The Last Mabelcorn and Dipper and Mabel Vs. The Future
>Dipper and Mabel's 13th birthday and growing up drama
>A waste of an episode called "Roadside Attraction"
>Mabel accidentally breaking the rift and causing Weirdmageddon
>Mabel going into denial and living in her bubble
>Dipper rescuing Mabel
>Dipper leading gang to stop Bill

Just a lot of stuff to cram into half a season making it feel rushed

it feels too fast paced when you rewatch it back to back.

It really could've benifited from a 3rd season.

Not to mention some characters never got the development they deserved or they only got development for one epiosde (Gideon, Pacifica, Robbie, etc)

I just discovered that my mother had a dead twin at 12 years old.

Things like this happen.

Uh, did you mean to respond to someone else?

Everything after NWHS, because it showed all the signalling and all the allege hints and deep lore were nothing but a farse told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

There have been at least three threads on /y/ that aside from some billdip are just well drawn stancest porn.

Eh, I will say Sup Forums's disappointment on the show is entirely warranted, if not the high level vitriol that came with it.

I used to admire Alex, but I just lost all respect for him after the finale.

no but see, this is actually a good joke
he makes a lot of shitty republican jokes, it's not hard to find one

>muh Manzi

you mean

Make your samefagging less obvious next time, you fucking hack.

Was it ever explained why Ford wanted to keep the rift a secret from Stan and Mabel?

Did he really think that one of them would brake the rift on purpose and cause the end of the world just for the hell of it?

Too ambitious for its own good. Could not deliver what it promised.

Season 2b. I'm not some rabid hater of it, in fact I liked it just like I enjoyed Gravity Falls as a series, but it was weaker than the rest of the series. After the huge theory that propelled the fan base was revealed as true, there wasn't much left for us to wonder about. We had Bill Cipher, the wheel...and...well, that's it.

Bill Cipher ended up being pretty much everything I thought he would be, but the wheel fucking sucked and was a huge let down. The Stan brothers fucked up that plan, and despite ruining the one thing that would have immediately stopped Bill, they suffered no lasting consequences for it. They copped out in the end with giving Stan back his memories and the show ended with a fizzle rather than a bang.

Still a good series, but the finale and the lack of an interesting mystery to wonder about hurt season 2b for me.

Would have been better on AS or somewhere else it could get away with more, prove me wrong.

Yeah, this guy gets it.

On an semi-unrelated note, if the general conclusion of 2B was moved to 3B, then what's the antagonist for 2B's finale?

>Gideon, again?
>FBI agents?
>Bill possession?
>Bill-like enemy?

Adult Party Cartoon

So what is the supposed adult show Hirsch is working on? It seems like ages since he announced it and I kind of want to know what kind of show GF could have been with that kind of freedom.

Underrated comment, have a (you)

This isn't really true. She played the alpha bitch thing 100% seriously in everything but Northwest Mansion Mystery and the last two minutes of Golf War. Even in the finale.

Too much attempts at comedy - trying to cram joke into every fucking second of screentime
Mabel being a bitch
Dipper encouraging this behavior
Generally disappointing climax
Far too few mysteries

I like Ford but he is retarded and quite honestly pretty much everything really was his fault.

Pretty much, basically 2 seasons getting crammed into 1 caused the issues here.

I liked how season 2 started with the secret black light notes and the bunker hinting at clues to a more consistent mystery plotline. I wish they hadn't abandoned that for more monsters of the week.

Well, he's pretty much implied to be autistic.

Reboot when?

Not even that, a whole bloody season crammed into half a season, with the remaining half season we were supposed to get shot to make way.

Hopefully never, there has never been a good reboot.

Everything about its comedy. Mabel. Not enough mystery.

I think I heard from a twitter post somewhere or tumblr or something (so this is word of mouth, but take it as you will) that the writes actually WANTED someone to either die permanently or lose their memories permanently, but the executives at Disney said "Okay we've let you get away with a LOT of stuff on this show, we're pulling our card now, we can't let you kill a character off." So that might explain it.

Who Stancest here

It's Disney, reboot will happen once they're done rebooting their current set of reboots/sequels.

>gundam

>Not every huge fight scene is an anime reference
This one literally was though. They had Soos showing McGucket anime beforehand with McGucket taking notes.

They never used the President's Key.

The finale pulled top ratings in Japan.
