There already are a lot of women in gaming and anime communities elsewhere, it's just the particular attitudes on this site and places like it that turn many off or encourage pretending to be a male to blend in and avoid discrimination.

An awful lot of people on Sup Forums cannot operate outside their safe space. Women, black people, muslims, trans, vegans, frequenting Reddit or tumblr, having a partner. They're so fragile virtually anything that diverges from "people like me" sets them off. They'd rather see the site burn than accept any of those people into their circle so things get very aggressive and disruptive very quickly.
