Pretty much. Spanish colonization was shit-tier. Argentina was adopted by the British Empire in the 19th century as an "Honorary Dominion" which is the only reason we kinda made it. But even us fucked it up by electing Peron.
The Spanish culture has no tradition of rule of law and free trade. We literally had to import all these things which come naturally to the Anglos.
The British Empire was the best thing that ever happened to Latin America. Supported our fight against Spain, protectes our seas for a century (Monroe Doctrine was actually enforced by Britain), brought the rule of law, football, rugby, polo and free market traditions, at least here.
In fact even to this day it can be said that the more British influence a nation in the Americas had, the more developed it is today.
