Okay well to be honest, it's hard at the beginning, but the Chinese aren't BS-ing you when they say you'll get better with time. I know I did.
What I would do towards the beginning of my Chinese studies was listen to audio clips of native speakers pronouncing syllables in 4 tones, and I would do my best mimic them.

In Mandarin there's only four, technically the neutral tone might count as a fifth though. The neutral tone is just kind of a non-tone, the way you pronounce it depends on the immediate preceding syllable's tone. But yeah, only 4 real tones, no more no less.
It's Cantonese and those other way down south dialects that are crazy with tones. Some say Canto has six, others say nine.

but only mandarin is important

True, but enough Chinese know English, and more will learn it better in the future, and enough laowai know Chinese that communication for business will be no problem. Lingua franca will probably not happen, but Chinese cultural exports may become stronger, they already are getting stronger as it is. If Kpop, Japanese anime, and Hong Kong action movies can become popular despite language, why not Mandarin stuff...

Are you guys speaking English or Chinese? I see that you are writing sentences in the Latin alphabet however that does not mean you are speaking English. When you say "no" for instance you could be saying 某 as in yes, when using the plural -s you could be saying 私 as in singular and so forth.
