Japan was kind of the only place to sort its shit out. Koreans were Chinese lapdogs, barbarians were barbarians, China had to accept constant civil wars as a basic fact of life because they can't govern for shit, Indonesia was so successful they split into about 4 or 5 states, downright voting to get rid of some states like Singapore.
In comparison, Japan unified back in 1603, predating Italy, Germany, Britain. USA and many other countries of the world by centuries.
