I'm looking for good hard sci-fi flicks. I'm kind of in the mood for them, so the last couple of days I've watched (and rewatched in two cases) these:
2001: A Space Odyssey Gattaca (rewatch) Children of Men A Man From Earth
Any recommendations? I've thought about watching "Contact".
Levi Kelly
2001: A Space Odyssey was also a rewatch.
Grayson Clark
Solaris
Ryan Cook
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Parker Sanchez
The 5th element Stargate
Hunter Edwards
Moon
Ethan Myers
Sunshine Alien Interstellar (yeah, it's actually good, ignore the memes) Stalker Solaris (Tarkovsky one) Metropolis (silent movie from '27) Minority Report Children of Men Ex Machina 12 Monkeys Primer Brazil
Brayden Taylor
Contact as hard as hard scifi goes in movies and also these tw qts in their prime
Wyatt Myers
surprised no one mentioned this one yet
Ryder Jenkins
For good reason, it's an awful movie. Spielberg is a hack.
Daniel Collins
Contact is good. Also throw Moon in there.
Andrew Morgan
Europa Report (the definition of modern hard sci-fi)
also Abyss Pandorum (these two not so hard but I think you might like them)
William Flores
>The 5th element >Stargate >Hard sci fi Don't get me wrong. I like the Fifth Element, but it's not hard sci fi as OP wants.
Cooper White
>Be portrayed by Matthew Mcconaughey >Be spiritual guru/writer >Somehow get invite to the same table as Bill Clinton and SETI scientists >Show up late to the meeting and shill your book
This made it a little difficult for me to enjoy
Isaiah Powell
I politely beg to differ; say what you want about Spielberg, but Close Encounter is legit, if nothing for the acting and music.
Benjamin Bennett
Seen it
The 1972 version, I take it? Added!
>Moon Already seen it, it's great! Might rewatch, though. Added a few from these, but have already watched most - thanks!
Ryder Barnes
Fair enough
How about Logans Run. Old but science fiction as fuck
Alexander Brooks
The Martian was great if you haven't seen it
Ethan Garcia
watch this, it's what you're looking for
Elijah Wright
Outland
Blake Rogers
Also, Blade Runner. If you liked 2001 you might enjoy 2010, it's not Kubrick's craftsmanship, but still enjoyable. Marooned is somewhat old but pretty good.
Joseph Diaz
Sorry, what definition are we using for hard scifi?
Hunter Watson
>Hard science fiction is a category of science fiction characterized by an emphasis on scientific accuracy.
it's usually like this, although it's somewhat of a rarity in cinema, the good shit of the genre is in literature
these two are good examples of recent scifi cinema
Nolan Watson
>Storms on Mars >So accurate Main premise is made up, though it's from the book.
>Although Mars does get dust storms, the atmospheric pressure is so low that the wind is negligible, although the dust itself can be harmful.
No hating it but man, rustled my jimmies non-negligible.
Brayden Roberts
>2001: A Space Odyssey Star Trek: The Motion Picture is the hardest Trek ever went and it's very similar in parts to 2001
Lincoln Torres
Contact is comfy at parts and definitely a must-see if you're into hard scifi, but I'm afraid the genre does not get any better than GATTACA.
