god you're horrible, faggot. typical underage Sup Forumsgoing shithead. standard-issue dumbfuck. another miserable pissant without the slightest clue as to what a blessing emily jean has been and is being upon the world. doesnt understand the indelibly cherished impact this gleaming, distinguished beautiful human being has had on the planet at large. of course garbage posters like this aren't keen to look into that, either. they're hard-wired to yak up the same old memes til they just aint funny no more, so their opinions are natural extensions of the omnipresent bought-out Sup Forums meme-machines latest propaganda efforts put forth to salvage scrap flesh from their increasingly irrelevant carcasses. like fucking clockwork. you LOSER ass, go to hell

Welles is a pretty shit director. Not only did he do nothing new, most of his filmography is complete shit that just gets worse as it goes on. Citizen Kane is alright but nothing special unless it's the first film you've ever seen. Nonlinear story structure was already done in DW Griffith's Intolerance, shadows and low angles in sound already done in John Ford's Arrowsmith, invisible cuts and whippans in DW Griffith's Abraham Lincoln, deep focus in William Wyler's stuff as well as Jean Renoir's, and Citizen Kane's script is literally Power and the Glory which Preston Sturges wrote. Power and the Glory honestly looks a lot like Kane visually and was directed by William K Howard, who is a far better director than Welles could ever hope to be. But really what makes Welles shit is he lacks any subtlety whatsoever. He makes use of long takes and multiple events happening in the frame well, but his mise en scene is turned up to 11. A lot of his shots look like they were done by a film school freshman shouting for attention (which he kind of was since he was schooled on film history before directing Kane). Really, he's just a name easily impressed plebs that don't know their history lap up. If you actually think anything directed by Orson Welles is good after seeing anything prior by superior directors, your taste is highly questionable and ought to be checked for early signs of down syndrome.
don't see how you haven't seen it and can determine whether they're not, but hey, man. dat's cool. keep watching TSPDTshit.

What I don't see is how you inferred that I disagreed when all I said was that I didn't see the comparison. (and didn't bother to ask how cuz muh condescension) I never said you were wrong to do so. Your projection is showing, my guy, but I guess that's what I get for posting on Sup Forums
From three days ago or much longer? Because that was me three days ago. Either way I'm glad you enjoyed it, the rest of HHH's films have good female leads if you're looking for another.

It might've been you then. I lose track of what people have recommended here and when they recommended it. I'm definitely planning on checking more of HHH's films but from what I hear, Cafe Lumiere is pretty different from his other films since this one was more of a tribute to Ozu.
