Good thread.

This one was used by Alexey Romanov, father of Peter the Great.

This one was raised on the first ship young Peter had built in 1693.

In 1700 came tricolor that is used today.
By 1835 it was pushed out by this imperial flag.

In the middle of 19th century Russia befriended Austria for some time, so previous flag got to change to this austrian-looking one.

Russian Empire had a top tier tricolor.

When the WW I started Nicholas II made some changes to reduce german influence. One of them was to change the name of Saint Petersburg to Petrograd (City of Peter), another one was to change the flag.

Then civil war happened and RSFSR (Russian Socialist Federative Soviet Republic, Russia as a part of future USSR) had this flag from 1918 up to 1920.

Outside of the leaf Canada never really had a national flag other than the Union Jack (which is still an official national flag alongside the leaf). The red ensign was most commonly used but even then, as shown in the pic, there were several red ensigns of Canada.

Maltese flag prior to the cuck stamping . This flag has been used as the unofficial flag of the Maltese people for around 800 years.
Origin is unclear, but legend says that when Count Roger arrived in Malta in 1090, the (Maltese) Christian population offered their
help to take the islands from the Arabs and the Count tore off a part of his chequered red and white flag so that the Maltese could
be recognised. Nowadays the flag is used as the flag of Mdina.

Bonus 2: flags of some unrecognized countries.

War flag of the Italian Social Republic

Those are horrible. As much as the Canadian flag gets ragged on here, it's really quite excellent from a design standpoint and is instantly recognizable and iconic.

Bonus 3: flag of some random german city.

here we go comrades

Not a flag, but during the third crusade the royal banner was this while the French used our red cross.
Then the English decided they wanted the red one instead and it stayed that way.

Also works if its represented in black and white photos, or is made small like on a siamese sweatshop forum, or engraved on metal/plastic, etc

I once did an aggregate of the most popular flags based on top Google search results for an Sup Forums thread. I can't remember all the flags, I do know it was a top 8 list since there wasn't enough corresponding data for a complete top 10. The Union Jack was firmly in 1st and Canada's was either 2nd or 3rd overall.

That in Westfriesland what is in the Netherlands and not Germany you uneducated fag.
