So it is time for a bookshelf and recent purchase thread. I haven't bought anything recently but I do have $113 in Amazon credit to spend soon. I need some recommendations if possible. I know for a fact I'm going to get the Metabarons.

Been on a bit of a Zatanna kick recently. Picked up the two of these for $30 australian.
Been looking bloody everywhere for Zatanna: Every Day Magic, but it seems to have been out of print for approximately 1100 years.
I also don't wanna shell out $50 for it from amazon, but I'm starting to think I might have to...
>Zatanna: Every Day Magic
$39.99 new on Amazon. It might be on the high side but not bad. I paid a lot more for some of my stuff.
Should I sell off my copies of Irredeemable/Incorruptible to the used book store? Probably get 3 dollars a book for them
>not having a backlog of things you need to order at least $500 deep
get it together OP
Well I need to get the Goon Library 3, Invincible 1,5-9, and the rest of the Vampirella archives. But I'm looking for some new stuff.
I'd recommend Madman by Mike Allred.
If only they didn't cost an arm and a leg to buy the hard covers.
we all gotta compromise homie
Just ordered volumes 4, 5 and 6 of Saga of the Swamp Thing yesterday.
Daredevil by Miller and Janson vol 1 - 3
Harrow County vol 2
Madman vol 2
Weapon X
I found a 90's tpb for Weapon X which is great since it doesn't use glossy paper so the colors look closer to the original issues
For some reason, I've always disliked the old rough pages in comics. I'm a little bit glad they switched to the high gloss.
Dayum Robin, you got dem legs.
I used to read One Piece back when it started in Shonen Jump. Haven't read it in almost a decade. I want to catch up but I think that is impossible by now.
How is it impossible? Just read it like usual. It's only 830 chapters right now, and Oda is on mandatory break like once a month.
It's having to mix it with work and school.
I don't got the shelf space for all that shit
Just keep reading at your own pace, not like you've got a deadline by when you need to have read it all.
I've got all the tanks they've released in my country, they sure do take up space.
>I want to catch up but I think that is impossible by now.
Not if you buy the box sets.
Ain't nobody got room for all that shit.
I do.
I have room for all of One Piece but it comes out of the room for everything else.

>Akira redrawn using The Simpsons
I'm a huge Akira fan, but... Just why?
Wait it got published? Just thought it was some silly web comic.
It must be a pain to move when you have that many books.
You have alot of shit i need to get.
Not him but I just moved to a three story building last year and had to move around 150 books, it was a massive pain in the ass, I also have added about 50 since then.
Well this is the most recent clearing out of the pull list.
FUCK BOOK DEPOSITORY STOP DAMAGING MY BOOKS REEEEEE
I'm not sure how many books I've got right now, but I'm really hoping I won't have to move out any time soon. And to think I had barely anything moving in...
I'm torn between the first JSA omni and Claremont's Uncanny X-Men for my next purchase.
Morrison Animal Man is cheap right now. so is Doom Patrol
cool beans!
>probably
find out for sure first
I miss the Umbrella Academy.
hard covers, floppies or tpbs?
That sucks, I've had good luck with them generally. They're at least better than Amazon.
Got a question for you floppy collectors. Do you usually buy the trades for the floppies you have once they're out? And if so, what do you do with the floppies?
I'll soon have to move out of my parents house to a small apartment in my country's biggest city and it pains me to know that I won't be able to bring my collection with me. 800 books (and more adding up) is just too big to handle and takes too much space.
I'm probably gonna settle with bringing a few ongoing series and leaving the rest to my parent's house until I'll be able to have my own space, in a few years.
Picture related.
wait are you telling me that amazon has worst packaging than book depository? You mean amazon or the sellers on amazon market place? Cause now im scared
Both, unless you're ordering from IST or CGN you have the highest chance of getting a dinged book with everyone else.
Also depends on your area but for the most part i think we're in agreement it's all shit if it's not IST and it's true until my amazon boxes can survive two days in the rain after it survives my asshole of a mailman
damn im terrified now user, i really thought book depository was the worst shit ever
This came in yesterday
I've had some really great packaging from second party sellers on Amazon.
This is the only semi relevant thread so I guess I'll ask here
I recently read my first comics/graphics novels (watchmen and before watchmen) what are some must read comics/graphic novels thinking of picking up deadpool and suicide squad
OP here, I'm still living with my parents until I finish college and get hired at a good company. I still have a year or two left so I will imagine it will suck eventually. Especially since I'm running out of shelf space.
All I'll say is invest in record crates
I've got giant plastic tubs. I will be able to move a whole shelf at a time but the weight will be unbearable.
The Sandman
DMZ
The Metabarons
some Morrison shit like Animal Mane
Here is my shopping cart from Amazon. How am I doing?
Incal
Tintin
Asterix
It's a good start towards the medium.
Rate what I plan on buying
The Complete MAUS
100 Bullets Book 1 TP
V For Vendetta New Edition TP
Fight Club 2
Deadpool Kills The Marvel Universe
Deadpool Kills Deadpool
Deadpool By Daniel Way: The Complete Collection Volume 1
Hellboy Volume 1: Seed of Destruction
Oh man, how is it? I love me some fucking Supergirl
Still posting
>Deadpool kills the Marvel Universe
Why?
It looks pretty good, whats up with it
Amazons problem is they put your books in too big a box with not enough packing material so your shit slides around inside the box the whole trip, if its up tight next to another solid box during shipping then its basically sliding into a wall for god knows how many hours.
If you do pick up Suicide Squad get the older run by Ostrander, 3 tpb's have come out somewhat recently for that run, anything new SS is probably god awful
It's terrible
Bunn doesn't have a good understanding of the character, the art is middling, the plot and premise are stupid
>Rate what I plan on buying
>The Complete MAUS
>100 Bullets Book 1 TP
>V For Vendetta New Edition TP
>Fight Club 2
>Deadpool Kills The Marvel Universe
>Deadpool Kills Deadpool
>Deadpool By Daniel Way: The Complete Collection Volume 1
>Hellboy Volume 1: Seed of Destruction
all three of those deadpool choices are bad, especially anything by Daniel Way, get the Joe Kelly Omni, Cable and Deadpool, or the newer run by Duggan and Posehn.
and if youre going to get into hellboy either get v2 wake the devil as well, so you get a real hellboy story with your first read, or go for the Library edition v1 which has the material from the first two trades and is a damn sexy hardcover edition as well.
everything else is solid though i haven't got a clue what fight club 2 is like, the whole premise annoys me. lol.
Y'know, you could customize many of those 1-6, 1-4, 1-? TPB's into nice hardcovers for easier reading.
Someone has a hardcover binding guide for the Suicide Squad and The Spectre Ostrander runs. Fuck TPBs, make your own hardcovers. Gut the ads and back covers. If said covers aren't wraparound. An individual comic book is worthless. A volume of specifically collected comics which fit in its binding is more worth it for reading.
Fight Club 2 was awful, but you kind of have to read it to understand why, I'd recommend pirating
Don't get any of that DP definitely not Way.
Don't buy a Hellboy trade get the Library editions, they're not super expensive and the quality is extremely high
>Y'know, you could customize many of those 1-6, 1-4, 1-? TPB's into nice hardcovers for easier reading
I haven't had a hard time reading the TPBs. I probably should get some though and some new stuff
Gotham by Midnight Vol.1 is very good.
I'm using the 5 Volume binding guide for the Giffen & DeMatteis Justice League comics. Only was able to get Vols. 1, 2, & 4 bound so far at Herring & Robinson. They're essentially custom Omnibus'.
One of you fuckers should at least have what I am looking for. It was a comic, 3 part I think. Had this green? alien looking like the ones from Mars Attacks as the villian and a bunch of humans, one was a black kid. In the end the humans escaped and the building melted.
I have no idea what the fuck it was I only had the last issue back around late 90's. Anyone have an idea what this is?
I only buy some tpb if i got the floppies and wanna reread
I dont take care of my flops and got like 500 in the corner of my room i let my friends have whatever they want but usually no one wants shit
I'm getting into Alexandro Jodorowsky books. I have the Metabarons and Megalex on order to get here Thursday. And I know I need the Incal series. What else should I get? I'm thinking Technopriests and Madwoman of the Sacred Heart. And what is the deal with the Metabarons series? There are so many different versions. There is big Metabarons book but also Metabarons Genesis: Castaka and The Metabaron oversized Deluxe Edition.
His other comics aren't as good as Metabarons or Incal.
You should read psicomagia (i don't know the english name). It's a good book to understand the concepts on his work and his mindset in general.
I guess you have already seen some of his films.
I'd recommend Son of the Gun as well. Great western.
Can anyone post an example of these custom hardcovers, I have a shit ton of tpbs, and this sounds extremely interesting.
I haven't opened it yet
i know that feel i too had to move and leave an entire collection of stuff, you should settle down first and with time start building up your space
Buddy, I want u 2 know, im a frequent lurker on these threads, your collection is fucking TOPS. Can I ask, a question that may be on the more private side?
sounds like a mars attacks comic from the 90's
sure go ahead
I feel for u bro. I once had to move and left a good portion of my collection at my father's and some at my mothers. As long as you make sure they'll keep them safe I assume it's ok. My dad, THREW away and SOLD what I left at his house. my mom brought the comics to her work to let the kids read them. Half gone half destroyed by the kids and the way they were shelved. Please keep your babies safe.
How do you afford most of your comics. Do you have some sort of connection, or just a well enough paying job to keep your hobby alive?
Not everyone has the money or fucks to give to go to all the trouble of having individual issues bound. it is cool though, but you seem to have at least a slight hard-on over the whole idea.
I've always been a lurker, but ill finally post a pic of 2 recent gets. My shelf isn't ready to be judged but one day I'll post it.
how did I do?
I'd like to see an image of these custom bindings, just to see if it's something worth getting hard over.
... well thats Sandman, which is well regarded but I personally don't care to read again, do you have brain damage or something?
Well enough job. I haven't been buying much lately tho because the shitty canadian dollar is making these books too expensive
Why would I have brain damage. A little rushed on the insult?
That sucks man. At least your slowing down with a great collection already in hand tho...
I recently read through Remender's Uncanny X-Force for the first time and I loved it. I'm thinking of trying to get my hands on the omnibus for the extra-sized art and extras.
For those of you who own this expensive omni, can you tell me what is included in the extras? Is it worth owning for the extra-sized art and extras?
OP here. I decided to get these three with my amazon credit.
bump
meh, I would have gotten something aside from megalex
I got it because I wanted a second Jodoworsky book and it was nearly the cheapest one I could get new in HC.
Should have gotten screaming planet
The tpb is the only version you can get for less than $40.00 and I have a strict no tpb rule. I'll get it eventually but only as a HC.
TPBs are far superior though
I just really dislike them. Years of reading manga. They get beat up so quickly and get cracked spines. I just don't have any that looks good on a shelf after more than 3 times reading it.
>TPBs are far superior though
Only reason I can think of is less of the pages get eaten in the bindings. BTW is there a word for that? I can't think of a better way to explain it.
