Scarlet Witch 7 storytime

We continue the stand-alone adventures of Wanda "not a mutant anymore but still a mutant for purposes of being left off Marvel merchandise" Maximoff.

It amazes me how a continuity nerd like James Robinson is doing a series devoid of the kind of references and crossovers with other characters he loves.

Why is this book so meh

This is the perfect comic to fall asleep to.

I'm mad, it could've been so much better.

Assuming it's not an editorial edict, he's said something about wanting to give Wanda her own personality instead of being defined by her relationship to others (Vision, Pietro, etc).

I find that's a solution in search of a problem. No, Wanda doesn't have a well-defined personality but lots of characters don't. People find her interesting because of how she interacts with other characters, not so much special guests.

At least Ghost Agatha Harkness isn't here.

And that's it.

I'm looking forward to the Civil War 2 tie-in in a couple of months because Quicksilver will show up. A comic really should not have me looking forward to Civil War 2 tie ins.

Yeah, I would very much prefer if Robinson used Wanda's extensive history, especially the one not having to do with Magneto since that's the only thing writers have cared about for the past 10 years.
Use Chthon, the High Evolutionary, Bova, Master Pandemonium, Mephisto, Wiccan, Immortus etc.

Thanks for the storytime

bump

I believe he said Wiccan and Speed were supposed to show up at some point but it's never happened.

This book seems so disconnected from the rest of the line it's almost a surprise there's even one CWII tie in.

>something about wanting to give Wanda her own personality instead of being defined by her relationship to others

that's exactly what it is.

but we're getting a civil war tie in if you're wanting more marvel connections

All characters created in the '60s are white except Black Panther and Robbie Robertson.

Robinson's been doing stuff with her Romani roots in this run

Which is fine (though I think the "raised by magic gypsies" origin story is stupid and would rather see that retconned out than Magneto). I just didn't enjoy the "whitewashing" accusations Tumblr people sometimes throw around (there was a Tumblr meme that it was racist to have Wanda and Pietro work for HYDRA in the movies because they're "Romani and Jewish," which, not really).

I don't feel like we're getting to know her personality much better in this book than we ever have. I just keep wondering what she'd say to the regular characters and how they interact.

Bump

Why is she allowed to be alive?

Gypsies are white in the Marvel Universe. All of them have lighter complexion.

I think it's an editorial edict. I think the Avengers Editorial dept have barred Robinson from referencing or using any of "their" characters in SW.

Besides, Wanda, thanks to Bendis, only has three friends; Steve Rogers, Stephen Strange, and Ghost Agatha Harkness.

It's notable that Wanda has appeared with Strange and his mystic posse far more often than the Avengers.

Wanda is a fascinating character to people who actually have imaginations. There's a whole ton of themes surrounding her character.

The Vision, Carnage, and Doctor Strange comics all go further into Wanda's themes than Wanda's solo book.

Feige and the Russo's seem to have a far better grasp of Wanda

She does have a well-defined personality, but because she does not quip, and is reserved and introspective, it apparently does not count.

Fancy a game of Lucky Hit?

yesterday I dreamed that I prayed to Wanda to give Callisto her powers back, and that she answered my prayer giving back her mutie powers to Callisto.

I should read Sup Forums less

I'm hoping for a tie-in with Carnage, because if there's a story that Wanda should crossover with, it's one involving Chthon and the Darkhold.

Why not? Are you going to let Bendis' character derailment ruin her forever? Besides, it's been retconned that she was posessed during Disassembled and House of M, you can't STILL be blaming her for that.

Hell, I'd read a mini about adventures in Hong Kong with magic cop stuff.

The Avengers office doesn't handle this book (it's from Mark Paniccia's office, the all-purpose "books no one else wants" group). I'm going to guess it's not a high priority.

Though that wouldn't explain why Robinson's low-priority books got such in-demand cover artists (Aja for Scarlet Witch and Ross for Squadron Supreme).
