The only plot point from the original movie that never felt right was that Mel seemed way too young to have been special forces in Vietnam. The fight between him and Busey at the end was badass though.

It was surprisingly tolerable, in spite of the amount of editing used to make these guys look like they know what they're doing.
What I found most offensive was the movie kinda brushing under the rug the 2 cops our supposed protagonists sacrificed in the ending ambush.
