I've realized that my favorite thing in all of fiction is insane game shows set in future(-istic) and/or dystopian worlds. Think "The Running Man" or "Smash TV", or I guess maybe "Wacky Races" or "Laff-A-Lympics" might count as well.
My second favorite thing is probably worlds completely 100% overrun by insane media and/or commercialism in some insane form. RoboCop is probably an example of this. Some cyberpunk shit might be as well I guess (especially Blade Runner).
I'm looking for shit like this in comics. I already know "Car Warriors" and "National Quiz", for the game show stuff, and "Video Jack" and maybe "Hard Boiled" and arguably "American Flagg!" for the "all-consuming commercialism" category, and I suppose anything with Mongo might fit into both, but what else is there?
Unfortunately, I myself don't know what I can say for comics, but there are a few games I could recommend with this theme.
There's MadWorld, a Wii game by Platinum Games, then there's Dead Rising 2, which incorporates a game show involving the massacre of zombies in various ways. In a far more cerebral way, some would say the Mamoru Oshii anime film "Sky Crawlers" may count.
Bcause I'm too lazy to type myself >The Isles of Los Angeles 2089: Humanity is addicted to technology, a population of unemployed leisure seekers blissfully distracted from toxic contamination, who borrow, steal, and kill to buy their next digital fix. Getting a virtual buzz is the only thing left to live for. It’s the biggest industry, the only industry, the drug everyone needs, and gangsters run it all. And who do these gangsters turn to when they need their rule enforced? Constables Led Dent and Debbie Decay. This duo is about to be given a job that will force them out of the familiar squalor of Los Angeles to take down the last tech-less country on Earth: The Garden Nation of Tokyo. Bestselling writer RICK REMENDER (BLACK SCIENCE, DEADLY CLASS) and superstar art team SEAN MURPHY (CHRONONAUTS, Punk Rock Jesus) and MATT HOLLINGSWORTH (WYTCHES, Hawkeye) examine our growing addiction to technology while thirsting for a nature we continue to destroy

I'll check those out.
Aaron Young
Suiciders isn't what you're looking for, right?
Ryder Sanders
Transmetropolitan. Btw, ever see Death Race 2000?
Angel Hall
I don't even know what you're referring to.
Lucas Nguyen
Blood sport in post-apocalyptic future.
Jason Torres
>National Quiz
Anyone got downloads of this in english? lg only has them in french.
Ryder Myers
Is that a movie? Comic? Cartoon? Video game? What?
Isaiah Robinson
Or the remake with Jason Statham?
Leo Hernandez
I think I might have seen the original ages ago.
Kevin Morris
>I'D BUY THAT FOR A DOLLAR That reminds me of the dystopian exaggerated version of the 90's in Robocop. We're headed there, soon enough.
Dominic Jones
IRL Detroit is actually WORSE than the fictional version in RoboCop lol.
Alexander James
An action packed trip to Detroit!
Kevin Perry
I'm not sure if that sounds awesome or retarded.
Jayden Edwards
brave new world is what we're heading for
also that one episode of BTAS, with the gene spliced furries.
Ryder Myers
If you run tabletop RPGs, then XCrawl sounds like it's right up your alley. It's basically a D&D dungeon crawl, except that it's a sponsored spectator sport with an audience cheering the PCs on (or jeering against them) and the characters get flashy special moves for exciting and entertaining the crowd.
Other than that, Shadowrun would probably fit your tastes quite well - tabletop RPG, video game, or likely any other media it shows up in.
Ryder Sanders
Sounds kinda faggy.
William Morales
bumping for suggestions.
Angel Baker
The Mojo arcs in X-men have a lot of that. Mojo himself is basically a universe ruling TV Producer.
Arcade used to be like that before Hopeless ruined everything with Avengers Arena.
Grayson Diaz
headed?
Matthew Evans
It's actually a fucked up mix of 1984 and BNW.
Cooper Torres
Yeah. Pretty sure Mojo and Longshot is a Running Man knockoff.
Kinda like Cable and Terminator. X-writers sure like Arnold flicks.
Nolan Bennett
Not a comic, but Repo! The Genetic Opera might fit your bill.
Thomas Collins
>BNW
De-abbreviate that.
Joseph Gray
Fuck that remake. The original is a brilliant over the top satiric camp classic.
Aaron Myers
Boston dynamics is just two BRRRTS short of the ED 209.
They couldn't even keep people from stealing the statue of Robocop.
Brave New World.
It was the 90's and it shows.
Thomas Jones
>Boston dynamics What could go wrong?
Adrian Hernandez
2nding Transmet
Bentley Allen
The recent Ghost Racers mini. I'd find you a page, but I'm on my phone right now. Suffice it to say, Arcade goes full Smash TV on a bunch of Ghost Riders.
Levi Garcia
BIG MONEY! BIG PRIZES! I LOVE IT!
Eli Taylor
An user on /lit/ said that 1984 is what happens to people in poor countries. Brave New World is what happens in first world nations. They fit together so nicely that way that it's kind of brilliant.
Aaron Diaz
Don't read it user, it's shit.
Wyatt Brooks
o... k?
Jason Lee
That was Secret Wars though and Secret Wars is basically garbage.
Pretty sure that movie was the main inspiration for the Carmageddon video game series, if anyone remember those.
Kevin Powell
I know it is more Sup Forums than Sup Forums, but i'm still surprised by no one mentioning Redline in this thread, it basically fits everything you mention there.
Watch this right now if you haven't.
Kayden Torres
ID BUY THAT FOR A DOLLAR
Henry Johnson
THIS IS THE BEST FUCKING GAME EVER!
Adrian Taylor
Will look into that.
Jordan Davis
What is this even about?
Mason Cook
>In the future, on the planet Dorothy, a world dominated by canine humanoids, duck's ass-hairstyle wearing "Sweet" JP races in the planet's Yellowline car race, a final elimination race despite two interplanetary wars to the most popular race in the galaxy, the Redline. The crowd is watching the race on an outdoor giant monitor screen in the desert town of the Water Stop. His mechanic, Joshua "Frisbee" Flathead, is watching the televised race with a mafia boss. The gambling boss is concerned that JP might attempt to win the fixed race but Frisbee reassures him that JP needs bail bond funds from the pay-off. JP attempts to win anyway while Frisbee resorts to using a remote detonator transmitter hidden in the palm of his hand which the mob boss doesn't notice, causing JP's TransAM20000 to explode and making the 'Crab Sonoshee Sea' hovercraft piloted by female racer Sonoshee "Cherry Boy Hunter" McLaren the winner.
I have no fucking idea.
Luke Rogers
>Transmetropolitan
This could've been an amazing comic if it wasn't so preachy.
Robert Kelly
>Repo! The Genetic Opera
This looks... insane...
Gabriel Torres
In the far future an intergalactic empire of magical girl sluts uses the economic force and cultural symbol of a universe wide racing circuit to destroy the oppressive regime of a rival intergalactic military dictatorship of Commie Japanazi cyborgs. Also a dork with an ancient Trans-Am tries to win and fuck a cute half-mermaid alien babe with daddy issues while patching things up with his childhood friends with space mafia connections.
