I'm sure most of that is true, but it's not representative of the type of comedy he's been doing for the past 10 years.
His gimmick isn't even satirical - it's just such an over-the-top style of American humor. Yelling political quips at the camera and giving the audience a wink isn't comedy - it's just dull and self pandering.
Yes, Trump is a retard (Hillary just as retarded) and will probably go down as one of the worst U.S. presidents of all time, but holy shit, what Colbert is doing daily isn't even funny.
Fuck, even when Bush was doing fuck-ups every other week, Letterman would make that shit funny for an episode or two, but he wouldn't talk about Bush 24/7 from 2001-2009.
That's what differentiates good comedians from ordinary ones; they know when their material is, or isn't, oversaturating and lowering the appeal of their humor.
