My favourite episode of Steven Universe is an early one that deals with Steven's relationship with his mother Rose. Towards the end of the episode, Steven gets into a little monologue about how he's not sure what he's supposed to feel when he thinks of Rose and he implies that usually he doesn't think anything at all. It was pretty good that the story didn't synthesize an emotional relationship between him and his mom when there wouldn't be.

Throughout the entire MCU he has been fucking up over and over and over again while trying to do what he thinks is best.
