I'm about to start watching DS9. I saw a few episodes as a kid when they aired in the 90s, but I've never returned to the series as an adult.

Which episodes can/should I skip (I'd rather not spend time watching lame or unnecessary ones), and which ones are essential?

Use this guide here, its pretty damn reliable.

And enjoy the trip. DS9 is Trek Kino.

Nice. Thanks, user.

Forget the guides, just start watching, and then start skip watching ones you don't want to, e.g. after one vedek bariel episode you may decide you never want to watch another one with him in it, and thats a good choice

All ferengi episodes are golden

All keiko episodes are shit, skip em

keiko is the worst character out of ALL star trek characters and thats even including the new movies

>it's a mirror universe episode

Am I the only one that hates this shit?

NO SKIP!

Nah man.
Wesley got far more screentime and we've had to put up with Wil Wheaton ever since.

yep
yep

ds9 takes a while to get going until all the tng writers got over there but it's a great ride! come to think of it i will probably rewatch this very soon

I just watched The Visitor last night, fuckin kino episode. Candyman playing older Jake Sisko is based.

Fuck that watch all of it. Even bad episodes can be very entertaining, and everyone likes different things.

DS9 is the best Star Trek show, enjoy user!

You're a faggot. Even if you don't like Bareil, the episodes with him in them are essential to understanding the overall plot. DS9 is not like TNG where every episode is disconnected to the rest and nothing means anything for the future. It's an ongoing and changing story.

no shit, thats why you skip watch the majority of his eps, doesn't mean you don't watch it at all, faggot

not him but wtf is "skip watch"?! you fucking nimrod

What, all of them?

The final two were garbage, but the first one was golden and the next two were decent.

Calm down bareil you seem upset, when you've seen some shows as many times as I have you can watch scenes and skip others, I guess this doesn't work for a first time though

I assume it's where you watch the parts of an episode that are relevant to the seasonal arc while skipping the rest. A good option for people who want a condensed story without all the padding that stretches the story out into a seven year long tv show.

The only one I've enjoyed so far was the TOS episode "Mirror Mirror"...every other one seemed to be trying too hard.

>although I kind of liked pic related just for alt-riker's manic line delivery and hipster/homeless look

Funnily enough, the Voyager episode with the clone crew that started dissolving (can't recall the name), and had to cope with the fact that they were nothing more than a weird copy made by an anomaly and were inevitably dying, was more interesting to me than "oh look it's a parallel universe where the main characters are slightly different and/or evil due to different historical events"

Most of Voyager is still hot garbage, though.

yes sir, that's kinda what i was getting at. not at all did i express that tho

I plan to basically skip most of the "okay" episodes on the chart posted by , but if any anons have recommendations of "okay" episodes I should 'skip watch', I'm all eyes.

Dont skip

You cant discuss the Sup Forums memes unless you know the shit episodes

If you dont know what MOVE ALOONGG HOOMEEE and the Rumpelstiltskin episodes are like then you can fuck off to Reddit

>"Dax" is bad
>"Invasive Procedures" is bad
>All these 'not important' episodes

I hate these guides so much. It's all opinions.

upon quick review of the list i would skip the only the okay episodes with "none" plot points. but overall is correct

thats a terrible plan, ignore my skipwatching shit, just watch everything, if you really have trouble with an ep fine, but don't go in planning on skipping half the episodes before even giving them a go, if nothing else you'll miss out on the random station life banter that usually starts every ep before the plot kicks in

After being told not to skip and TOS episodes, and attempting to watch the unholy cringefest that is "Shore Leave", I have a hard time convincing myself that it's worth it to watch famously bad episodes of Trek.

Granted, every series is different in terms of its episodic progression...I do plan to grab the complete series anyways, so I'll probably watch everything eventually.

>O'Brian: "Biological Data viruses are part and parcel of living on Deep Space Nice"

Quality is subjective but importance is pretty objective, no? What are some "not important" episodes you disagree with?

That's exactly what I'm going to do, at least for a first viewing of the series. If anything has even "minor" importance, I'm watching it.

Some of the "okay" episodes are among my favourites, specifically Prophet Motive and Our Man Bashir.

kek

One good thing about DS9 is that all the worst episodes are in season 1 , so if you can get through that without skipping you are set

shore leave is great fuck you

Depends what you mean by important. To me, stories that tell us a lot of information about characters ARE important episodes. For example "Dax" gives a lot of information about Dax and Trills, as well the nature of the Curzo/Sisko and the new Jadzia/Sisko relationships.

Likewise, "The Armageddon Game" to me is very important for the Bashir/O'Brien relationship.

The list would go on.

I'd have to disagree with that, I'm only halfway through season 5 but for me neither of the two episodes that stick in my mind as the worst are in the first season. The one where Dax falls in love with the man whose planet phases into another dimension and the one where Jake is molested by an alien vampire are both fucking awful.

I think the only acceptable ones to skip are the Lwaxana Troi episodes

Every time I rewatch DS9 I can get through Move Along Home and the other really bad episodes

but the Troi ones are such dogshit they make me want to die

So /trek/, which actor produced the best music after Star Trek? Spiner or Brooks?

youtube.com/watch?v=3IPZ5j5Ia48
youtube.com/watch?v=IUbxVlOcujw

I think the answer is obvious.
Sisko

Jake became so annoying later on while Nog remained great.

There is only one

of course shatner
youtube.com/watch?v=lul-Y8vSr0I

There are three

and one of them is the episode mentioned where the B plot is jake being molested "The Muse" is probably the worst episode in the series

I try cause shes majel but its been years since I could make it through a whole lwaxana episode without skipping at least a bit, she was better in ds9 then tng tho imo

Is he drunk?

There's one where Odo becomes a puddle in her skirt, there's another one where she marries Odo because some guy wants to steal her child and there's one where she makes everyone in the station horny.

Jake got real annoying really fast after the episode where Sisko got trapped in another dimension.

Hmm I only remember one and I've seen the show 3 times, but I could be retarded.

The only truly bad episode of DS9 I can remember offhand is the one where they get stuck inside a board game

>Captain, shields at zero. They've punched through the hull on decks eight, nine and twelve. Core breach imminent and they're charging their weapons up for another shot. They've also abducted several of the crew and have replaced Lieutenant Paris's liver with Neelix's severed head. They are not responding to our hails but have "KILL ALL FEDERATION" auto transmitting on a loop. Recommend return fire.

>Now now Mr. Tuvok... we're guests in the Delta Quadrant. We must make an attempt to understand all alien species we encounter. Beam over a bouquet of lillies and a box of chocolate.

No one is going to give you shit for deleting Lwaxana Troi episodes from your mind.

That felt like a TNG episode. I'm on the Vic Fontaine episode right now and i know the DBZ episode and Ferengi Women episode is next.

>here Odo come rest inside of my womb I will keep you safe

probably, ask Bill he's around here somewhere

>Very next episode

>"Captain, the Kazon ship has been disabled and is retreating, the logical course of action would be to cease combat and resume course for Earth"

>"They can leave when I say they can Tuvok, fuck the Prime Directive, beam that space nigger crew directly into the vacuum of space then collect their corpses. I want them as dead as Tuvix. We can recycle their matter and replicate some coffee"

In other words a 100% realistic depiction of a female captain. Based Voyager.

The writer girl in that episode is Garak's IRL daughter.

Goddammit, i lost my shit.

100% accurate, read it in her voice.

i dunno hearing Quark beg kinda made it worth it

...

Quark x Odo best ship

I can agree with your argument about Armageddon Game, but I think you're wrong about the rest. Importance is about the story, and how much an episode changes the story going forwards, not backwards.

My point wasn't that I'm right and people who disagree are wrong, only that the guide should not be used because different things will be important to different people and everyone will like different episodes.

What is your favorite Punished O'Brien episode, and why is it Hard Time?

is ds9 less cheesy than tng because i'm trying to get into star trek and i'm not liking tng at all

Tribunal

Far less campy.

The reason TNG is so revered is because Patrick Stewart is great and it was the show that everyone grew up watching. If you're being completely objective it's hard to argue that TNG is as good as DS9 overall.

Nah, its just him being punished and he knows his family is fine.

Times Orphan is much worse for him, knowing he has lost his daughter forever to being a savage and having to raise the autistic husk of a child he lost through his own carelessness as it destroys his family

>everyone will like different episodes
That's why quality and importance are separate in the first place.
>different things will be important to different people
In general though, I think _most_ people understand that, say, Rules of Acquisition has minor importance because The Dominion are mentioned for the first time, or The Begotten has major importance because Odo gets his groove back, or that Trials and Tribble-Ations has no importance because, even though it's a great episode, it has no consequences and is never referred to ever again (Enterprise notwithstanding).

DS9 is less cheesy, but also you should know that TNG improves massively once you reach season 3.

Noted, I'll check out these episodes.

but its still not accurate, the explorers has no importance but its the episode that introduces leeta

Yo they were merely examples that came to mind. My advice would be to watch every episode.

Good point. Hopefully it'll be fixed in the next version.

>European politics in a nutshell

Leeta got like 15 combined minutes of screentime in the entire run of the series

Looks like Karl Marx

30 if you count both breasts

so? if they got on the baseball team their important

TNG is hard to get through at first, but like said, if you can make it to season 3 things get much better. It's season 3 onward where TNG shines.

this is also the episode you almost feel a tiny bit of something for keiko, almost

In the Hands of the Prophets tho.

>In the Hands of the Prophets
I'd say you feel for o'brien when he thinks shes dead, I still felt nothing but a mild hate for keiko, iirc its been about a year since I've watched it

Keiko was badass in that one

Star trek is unbingeable.

Just watch all the episodes. Seriously.

DS9 is a 7 year arc. Even bad episodes have important bits of character development. And even if the plot is bad, the characters are good enough to make it enjoyable enough.

Let He Who Is Without Sin...is the best example of this. The story is dogshit but seeing Worf be all uppity right winger and shit is hilarious.

Thank you. This man understands.

>these dudes want to take 7of9 with them
>"we could just ignore them, but you know what? let's plot against them and ruin their shit just because"
George will never be safe from being fucked, not even in the Delta Quadrant.

>"she had 'man hands'"
>"he had a 'vagina face'"

>it's a baseball episode

Just skip everything until the Dominion War.

I love this episode. And I don't know anything about baseball.

>it's a DBZ episode

>I see your Schwartz is a big as mine!

...

Watching everything.
Skip nothing.
If you skip anything you are a massive casual faggot and should off yourself.

...

>it's an ambojitsu episode

24 year old lifetime Star Wars and LOTR fan who never really got in to trek but enjoyed the 3 new movies and thus decided to try out TNG and later TOS.

Have to say i've been using some guys guide to best episodes of TNG and so far they have been pretty good. Just watched A Matter of Honor and Making of a Man ad both were super good.

>ambojitsu
It's anbo-jyutsu REEEEEEEEEE

>read that as Niggers
I've been on Sup Forums too long.

>aroshgu omegashimas
What did they mean by that?

>24 year old lifetime Star Wars and LOTR fan who never really got in to trek but enjoyed the 3 new movies and thus decided to try out TNG and later TOS.
