The mission of /lbg/ is to promote the intelligent discussion of film as art by providing members with opportunities for intellectual discussion, by recognizing patrician taste through examinations and by calling out embryos as they arise.

>Patricians occasionally read these generals and have posted here before.
>Patricians may pretend to be normal users asking for recommendations and when you recommend something, they laugh at you for your plebian taste
>This is a thread for patrician purposes only don't offer or expect frivolous discussion.

Do you eat during movies?
Fuck Sally Jane Black am i right boys?
you're a condescending, mansplaining asshole
If you had any taste, you would've already seen all of Griffith's works
"They" are bad, but the attention you people give her is just as obnoxious.
>her
I can only assume what the replies to this are going to pinpoint
...
I just see her on the frontpage everytime spouting some bullshit that isn't even in the movie cuz muh gender roles and question if letterboxd is actually patrician
I realise that, I see it to. But just because you see them there, doesn't mean you have to read them. "They're" on the front page because "they" get a lot of upvotes, you're not going to change the site and how it operates so all this raging against "her" is completely futile. That said, I presume most who routinely post that shit here are doing it merely for the (You)'s
I'm a fan of True Heart Susie and The Musketeers of Pig Alley
I really should re-watch Platform, I watched it a good few years ago and while I liked it, I think I'd appreciate it a whole lot more now.
He made over 500 works and not a single bad one.
any help here..
Why do people stop watching Griffith after the 10's
fuck off
babby can't into cunnykino
Griffith is the biggest pleb filter known to man. As a stringent man of the 19th century, he is considered outdated yet he anticipated every development and technique in the medium years and decades before anyone else. With his painterly eye, he was a master of the tableau style of cinematography and was able to speak to those on a spiritual and metaphysical level with bucolic lyricism and poetry. In his pictures, he includes everything intelligently in service of the content with a far-reaching grasp to envelop even the smallest animals or gust of wind in his grandiose concoctions. A master of the instinctive cut, the long take, the static shot, the use of depth and distance, and performing the ever so delicate balancing act of comedy and tragedy, Griffith's pictures are those closest to mimicking the complexities and relationships of life. They are eternally relevant.
Griffith is fucking boring.
People that like filmmakers like Tsai Ming-Liang, Jia Zhang-ke, and Hou Hsiao-hsien can't watch films from the 1910's because they can't associate and self-insert with people 100 years ago let alone watch pure visuals for hours in silence.
That doesn't change that he's fucking boring.
Griffith and Flaherty are the biggest pleb filters known to man.
.
I want to impress the qt 3.14 employee at the video rental place.

I'm a pleb
any song by eyehategod
hope you burn to death
you want me to burn that guy alive?
Idol Dancer>Pather Panchali
Something to Live For>Ikiru
Intolerace+Abraham Lincoln>Mirror
Hindle Wakes+Doomsday>In the Mood for Love
Criterionbabbies will always have objectively shit taste.
what a fucking dense fuck
Baby Driver looks fucking trash.
dumb trashposter
looks fun
And now the babby resorts to pouts of anger after the realization kicks in that he was born with shit genes.
Can you explain in detail how any of those movies are even remotely comparable?
dumb genesposter
Complaining about your shit genes won't fix them, babby.
see
who needs a gene when we have Emily Jean
so does your mom
don't talk to me like that ever again
Make me, faggot.
Tropical realism and existentialism with an enlightening cast of characters
Basic existentialism
Episodic portayals of life and a mans story utilizing all cinematic techniques
Doomed realistic romance with emphasis on acute interaction and mise en scene; Doomsday also features voyeurism
youtube.com
Don't get mad when somebody mentions your shit flicks were done better before.
I need ideas for lists to make. They satisfy my autism.
They are also pretty primitive and boring
Forgot to mention Doomsday's elliptical flashback structure.
Criterionshit is shit and will always be shit
did you need to mention existentialism twice? lmao
already told you
How are they primitive. There are hardly any works more complex than his
Griffith is primary school
Bresson is a doctorate
>le hand man
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
the true endgame director is brian de palma
sounds like you haven't watched any movies post 1910's lmao
When you have generic copycats like burpman, Shiteyjat Ray, and kuroshitewa yes
>brian de palma
ayyyy get that tarantino-tier hack outta here
Silent cinema is objectively superior
Why did Bresson half-assedly copy Griffith's mode of acting
lmao that doesn't make any sense at all
did you really need to namedrop existentialism twice?
plenty of silents in the 20es vastly superior to anything Griffith ever could dream of
Pretty much all Ikiru is. Something to Live For did it far better though.
Why don't you read Notes Sur Le Cinématographe before embarrassing yourself
That has nothing to do with my question tho
did you really need to namedrop existentialism twice?
Reminder that what people mean when they say David Wark Griffeth was outdated or "shit" is that they're not accustomed to good cinematography. He was a pioneer and master of the tableau style of cinematography. He constructed images worthy of being hung on a wall. Hardly something that can be claimed for much anybody else
Now the accompanying comparison
Why don't you read DW Griffith: Master of Cinema before embarrassing yourself
Lmao, he didn't even write it himself, why bother
I know I'm wasting my words on you since you clearly can't read, but I'm going to continue anyway. Idol Dancer is literally a better version of Pather Panchali. You don't even have to name just that, you can name a host of Griffith's countryside films as well, but I chose Idol for similar settings.
Then read his autobiography. In there, he has notes on his methods and preferences.
I really hate americans
>but I'm going to continue anyway.
please answer why you really needed to namedrop existentialism twice, not whatever the heck you are trying to prove right now
>people still reply to megaautist
>methods
lmao, this dude didn't have no method
Notes Sur Le Cinématographe is not only one of the most important books on cinema ever written, but a classic of french literature
Meanwhile, literally nobody has read or cares about Griffith's biography
I mean, really?
James Rolfe is one of the most genuine film fanatics on the internet.
Go attack Moviebob, he deserves it.
I was thinking of writing "yearning for a better life" but I knew it would be too many words for you lmao
fat fuck and down syndrome dwarf
why don't you answer if you really needed to namedrop existentialism twice?
no, and no
...
>this dude didn't have no method
I know you're an illiterate nigger, but I'm going to expose you anyway. Pioneered closeups, visual rhyming, acting divorced from theatre, crosscutting, parallel montage, accelerated montage, montage-by-attraction, character-over plot, environmental storytelling, mise-en-scene, flashbacks, nonlinear storytelling, double exposures, shot-reverse-shot, 180 degree rule, jump cuts to elicit psychological state, tracking shots, camera movement to elicit psychological state, spontaneity, not using scripts, film essays, neorealism, non-actors, crowds, on-location shooting, sets, etc. He did everything and perfected it. Made over 500 works and not a single bad one.
Niggers need to be gassed
Niggers need to be gassed.
what about the double existentialism namedrop tho
Reminder David Wark Griffith was the first to predict the Obama administration.
Why does Andre Bazinga say nigger all the time like an immature teenage edgelord? It certainly doesn't make me want to give his posts any consideration.
that's not a method
those are techniques
he had no coherent approach to filmmaking
bazinga
I didn't know they let you use phones in daycare. Some of those are techniques and others are methods (spontaneity, acting divorced from stage, no scripts, characterization through action). Next time, read, you dumb fuck.
man i have such shit memory i downloaded the two films THREE TIMES today
Frank Borzinga
Reminder that Griffith and Flaherty are the biggest pleb filters known to man
>spontaneity, acting divorced from stage, no scripts, characterization through action
That's not a method tho
He didn't theorize and systematize his approach to art unlike Bresson and other great directors
