I would say it's the increasingly liberal attitudes of a lot of church leaders and of certain branches of Christianity. If you play fast and loose with the Scripture, and basically tell people it's okay to do whatever degenerate shit they want as long as they believe in Jesus, they'll stop going to church because they don't *need* to. That's just my guess, though.
