England was under a french dynasty from the end of the Guillaume male lineage until the Tudors 300 years laters, the Tudors were gallic then came the Stuarts who came from Bretagne during the conquest and settled in Scotland.
Then you had the germanic dynasties with the Hanoverians and now the Saxe-Coburg Gotha.
English are pretty much closet german-french too ethnically, they are around 45% french and 25% german when you look at their DNA.
Same for the language which is 30% french, 30% latin and 25% germans.
