Alright Sup Forums, who's the best 80s cartoon villain and does any cartoon villain since come close to these all-stars? They only one that comes to mind for me would be Aku

Maybe Monstarr, he seemed to have his shit together more often than Mumra.

Skeletor, every incarnation of him is awesome! Even in the meh 80's Masters of the Universe, Skelly "dominated the lanscape"!

Langella Skeletor was so awesome.

So annoyed every other incarnation is just a re-tread of the cartoon rather than robed magitek wizard.

>all men

Ugh.

"Acceptable in the 80s" is right.

Though i believe that the most recent versions added a lot more layers to Skeletor/Keldor's character and helped to comprehend better his motivations and his claims.

It's one of Langella's favourite roles from his entire career too.

I had the toy of one of his minions, this guy. There's a grindstone in its chest so you can make it breathe sparks by pulling a lever on its back.

"I am not in a giving vein this day."

I think Langelator had a better character. I really can't get behind the woobie backstory they give him now.

Every piece of concept art for Masters of the Universe look amazing. It's just to bad the film couldn't match up. Then again what do you expect from Cannon. Frank was awesome as Skeletor though.

...

>80s
I like the IDEA of Dr. Claw. His face reveal and inability to succeed kinda suck though.
>Contemporary
I like Father from Kids Next Door a shit ton.

Tex Hex had a fair amount of depth to him; he knew he hadn't always been the bad guy, and even he sometimes realised that there was no going back, no happy ending, no redemption. Best he could do was not do as much evil as he'd intended to do that day.

Also, you have to have at least a grudging respect for a bad guy whose plan for one episode was "start a race war between the native population and poor, hungry settlers".

tl;dr, watch some fucking Bravestarr.

I always liked how Man-At-Arms' voice cracked when he said "You dare threaten her life?" Like he was absolutely shitting himself in Skeletor's precense.

And Skeletor's reply is so rich.
>I DARE ANYTHING! I am Skeletor.

Cobra Commander when written by Larry Hama is 1000 times better then his cowardly snaked skinned cartoon counterpart. (I still love him though)

Langella's Skeletor is fantastic there is no doubt. But his motivations are plain superficial. He is just another power hungry tyrant. But the background that the modern stories gave to him, he turned him to 3 dimensional character, whose claims are actually legitimate until a certain degree.

Who cares about "3 dimensions" in Masters of the Universe?

This is the thinking that went in to the ruination of Maleficent.

Anyway every villain needs a reason of why he turned the way he is. In the 87's film there is a particular scene in which Skeletor said that "it's his right to rule Eternia and the Universe"

Now we know why he believed so.

Tex Hex was so great he created Bravestarr. He was originally made for Filmation's Ghostbusters, and Lou Scheimer, one of the studio founders and an executive producer, liked him so much that he got Arthur Nadel, Filmation's Vice President for Creative Affairs, and art director John Grusd to develop a series entirely around him. That led to them having the idea of a Sci-Fi Western, which led to Bravestarr.

Bravestarr is the tightest shit.

Out of all those guys, isn't Megatron the only one with a killcount?

(no we're not including the comics, this is cartoons only)

Masters of the Universe has nothing in common with the Maleficent though. It's a story about the Universal dominion and power, and the various factions who are fighting for it.

It's his right because he's fucking Skeletor.

And why is that?

Because he's Skeletor.

Can't you read?

His character is "I'm so amazing why shouldn't I be God?"

Yeah, but the film tried to give Mal depth and a sympathetic backstory and it ruined what was appealing about her in the first place (that she was an unapologetic evil Fae bitch).

Personally I actually quite like the modern Keldor backstory, but mostly if modern, present-day Skeletor is still a cackling evil lunatic. Yes, he could have been a good man once, but now he's a skull faced muscle-demon who might try and blow up the sun.

...

...

Agreed. This is how Skeletor is always portrayed in all incarnations anyway, no matter the origin.

> all this Frank Langella Skeletor love.

It.. touches my soul to know there are others who love his performance from that movie.

His motivations are simple.

HE WANTS IT ALL.

There are many cartoon villains past the 80s who come close to the 80s A-Team. Here is one. yeeeeessssss

The best kind of bait is the kind you know people genuinely believe in.

>All of this amazing epic futuristic art made for the film to take place in a scifi-fantasy adventure in another dimension
>Movie takes place in rural Kentucky instead
>We get Eternians being disgusted that Earth people eat chicken.

That's why fuck this movie.

Ehh I think it has more to do with the silverhawks being much less of a threat to him than the tundercats were to Mumm-Ra.

7 foot tall cat mutants with magic and insane technology wielding swords that break planets and guided by a seeming jedi area bit more to fear than cyborg bird people with teeny lasers on their shoulders.

I had the toy too, was my favorite from the movie. Too bad he died real early.

No doubt. But it adds more to his character, to know Skeletor's story. It differentiate him, from the other MOTU villains like Hordak or King Hsss.
