As you know, David Irving is a first-rate researcher and historian of the Third Reich who relies exclusively on primary sources and original research. His career has been destroyed by the usual brigade of free speech haters and Israel shills who have publicly denounced him as an antisemite, Holocaust denier, etc. At one point he was a Revisionist as well and was an instrumental figure in the that movement.
Presently, he is working on a Himmler biography, and to be honest I don't think that it is going to be very good.
Skip to around 1:36:00, and David Irving starts talking about how Jews were in fact gassed but on a "small scale" in "little rooms." He starts referring to documents implicating Himmler in murdering Jews, misunderstanding "sonderbehandlung", and buying into the Holohoax narrative.
It's a shame that this man, who has nothing to lose at this point, is succumbing to pressure rather than standing his ground and refusing to conform. Revisionists have debunked gassings logically, scientifically, analytically, and even conceptually. This whole topic has been paved forwards and backwards with scholarship. What audience does Irving think believes him? He rejects the propaganda of Auschwitz gas chambers, therefore making him a Holocaust Denier in the eyes of the world, yet he then turns around and promotes the idea of "gassings on a small scale," therefore making Revisionists laugh him off.
The killing of jews during ww2, real or fake, is a little unimportant fact. Stop teaching it, wipe it out of the history books. It don't deserve attention.

It's not that it "isn't what I want it to say," it's that his claims are ridiculous and lousy. Since he has already stood by the Leuchter report he cannot endorse the main Holocaust propaganda, but since he is giving in to pressure he is trying to denounce his previous Revisionism by saying "there were some gassings."
That's not how it works. Gassings aren't bullets, they're extremely complicated processes that involve high tech and rigorous safety procedures. Nowhere in blueprints for the camps or testimony from the people who built them is there anything about these "small rooms for gassings."

It's much like the similar question "How many Russians died in WW2?" You ask any German and they say "20 million". Well some people would say that 40 million Russians died in WW2. Because President Richard von Weizsäcker said that 40 million Russians died in WW2. But the usual figure is 20 million. The actual figure is less than 5 million. How do we know that? Well if you go to the British archives there's a private record taken by the interpreter of a meeting between Joseph Stalin, the Russian dictator, and Winston Churchill on July 19, 1945 when they met in Potsdam. And they're talking in private over dinner about who should get what in the dismemberment of Germany. And each side is boasting about the damages they suffered and Stalin says to Churchill "We're entitled to far more, because you've got to realize that we lost in the Soviet Union many many lives, nearly 5 million Russians are dead or missing. He would've had no reason to minimize the figure, but he would've had every reason to exaggerate the figure, and he said 5 million. But you see how it has ballooned since then. 5 million to 20 million to 40 million. And it's exactly the same with the holocaust figures.

I think the best figure you can get is an estimate figure given by the Polish authorities. Poles, you see, in Krakow in 1947 put on trial all the Auschwitz top dogs. Rudolf Hess the commandante, Hans Aumeier his deputy, Arthur Liebehenschel the successor of Rudolf Hess. 22 of them were put on trial in Krakow and a lot of them were sentenced to death and there's a video showing the actual judgement being handed down on them. The judgement says "These people who are guilty today had been the principal officers of a camp, Auschwitz, in which up to 300.000 people of all nationalities met their deaths. It doesn't say they were killed, it doesn't say they were gassed. It says they died. Up to 300.000. Now these, you've got to realize were the Polish courtroom which had all the documents, they had all the Auschwitz prisoners to interrogate and the figure they used in their judgement as they sentenced these men to death was up to 300.000, so how suddenly did the figure balloon to 4 million on the memorial in Auschwitz in the 1970s and the 1980s? The communist director, the Jewish director of the Auschwitz state museum, Franciszek Piper, he eventually had that figure chiseled down and a new monument erected to the 1.2 million killed. It's rather like monopoly money the way they play around with these figures.

The part that concerns me most is that he almost casually starts talking about how there were "small scale gassings in little rooms." My jaw dropped to the floor. Nobody talks about this. Not Revisionists, not Exterminationists. Nobody has heard of this.
It's like he's trying to find a middle ground. He's found a document whose authenticity he believes is "80% certain" that allows him to once again claim that gassings did in fact occur, which ignores all the established evidence about the complex and expensive process it takes to safely gas people. It's beyond just documents. It's not because there's a lack of documents that we can discredit the shower chambers of Auschwitz as being used for gassings is that there was a wooden door, two of them actually for an entrance and an exit, as well as windows. Not only that, but in the fumigation chamber where gassings DID occur, the machinery to actually grind and disperse the pellets is totally absent from the shower chamber.
It's these technicalities that make the whole thing obviously ridiculous, outside of all the arguments that Dr Butz makes in his seminal work. For Irving to claim that there were "small scale gassings in little rooms" is absolutely absurd and ignorant.
