It is considered a social grace extended by the organization being sponsored. It would be poor business practice if a company made it 'exclusively conditional' as opposed to what is considered basic manners/politeness.
Sponsorship is not treated like advertising and comes under a different set of honor profiles.
Acknowledging the 'unspoken rule' is the default, this is what constitutes 'culture'. This is why honor/respect and the like for Japanese can be taken to: 切腹 腹切 割腹
So whenever there is a minor mention in Japanese broadcasting/events it is smaller compared to how English has to blast out some fucking obnoxious, "HOW ABOUT A HUGE ROUND OF APPLAUSE FOR OUR SPONSOR: APPLE SAUCE!"
Sorry, if I don't understand what you are saying correctly as I'm an English leaner now
You mean Why many American people term " Kanji " instead of "Chinese" when referring to Chinese characters?
If so, it seems like the reason has something to do with the spread of tatoo in the US Tatoos are more likely to be described by Japanese Kanji word there.
