It's metaphor. The whole book is metaphor. Incredibly heavily spiritual metaphors, but it's book based in imagination because you have to use your imagination (see: critical thinking and trust) to allow it to develop in your mind, if you were following the Bible.
The whole point of the Bible (especially the New Testament), is being separate from the book, so you can inhibit the lessons it's trying to teach you, rather than you just reading them, as if you were reading any other book.
The passage you sent me was about how people destroy their own perception, but their perception is still there, it just needs to be taken to the choice to be seen.
The Father is God. If your God (conscience) is asleep(dead), then the cycle of suffering starts and will continue until the day, He (the self (Jesus)) seeks to end it.
